so pissed

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 1:13 pm

so i let my brother play skyrim the otherday so he could mess around with the vampire lord form. and like 10 mins ago i get on to see if he screwed any thing up and well he did. i got on and found out that he deleated my Argonian mage/vampire lord that i had beat the vampire side with. and i also had about 70 hours on that character and now its just gone cause my little brother saved over it. so now i have my khajit theif/assassin, and 2 saves for my nord warrior/ werewolf. i am so pissed right now i only got around to doing one side quest and was heading toward my secound one.

any one else have some one deleat or save over a character.

Use more than one or two saves, maybe?

I'm sorry you lost your characters, but you really need to try to use a bunch of save slots, especially with Bethesda games, as they're prone to crash/bug out and since they have no separation based on what character is being used.

I've saved over my own characters more times then I can remember. I had an Oblivion save I played on for 5 years and had over 550 hours counted on it, but I wiped it out by saving over it with a new character. That was the only copy of Oblivion that I've destroyed..

One time, but it was me in a sleep deprived stupor. Bye bye 350 hr Oblivion character. Didn't play the game for a week after. My brother deleted my Ocarina of Time save once. I was upset and then I had a blast replaying through it with him. Good family time. Glad he deleted it in retrospect.

idk i really don't like having more than one save for a character cause then it gets confusing some times. i like how i have it now i have one save for each character before my mage was saved over my khajiit was at the bottom my nord was in the middle and my mage was at the top so i didn't have to search for which one i wanted to go to.

i try to have only 2 for one character but tend to save before major things like joining dawnguard or vampires so i dont have to start a new character all the time

I remember back in Morrowind I had only a handful of saves. I went on one massive journey to try and explore every corner of the map. I decked out my stronghold in dozens of unique equipment that I had found in my journeys. Then poof, I saved over it by mistake. Needless to say, every Beth game I play now reaches 1000+ saves within the first 40 hours :P

i've nevr had to have mutiple save ever before. i've never had a reason to. no saves have ever beend corupted, no beth game i've played has ever crashed to where i would have had to reload an older save. and if a quest gets [censored] up to where i can't play it then i just go on and wait for my next character to try that quest. which has only happened 4 or 5 time since i played my first beth game.

One of the benefits of being on PC is that I obsessively back-up my saves every chance I get. I have a folder in My Documents with 8 different save files in it, one for roughly every 100 saves(I skipped a few though, considering I'm rounding the 1k mark and only have 8 files). That way I'll never have to go too far back if I accidentally save when I don't want to, or if corruption sets in. For every day gameplay, I operate on a rotation of 4 saves. I alternate between the first two saves so I always have two semi-recent saves, the third is from before I go into a dungeon for a quest(in case there's a bug that requires me to restart the whole damn thing or there are unacceptable consequences for me[so glad I did this with Cliodna mine, I do NOT want to track down the corpses of half of Markarth because they got slaughtered by escaped prisoners and confused guards]), and the last save is a snapshot from before I made my last major decision(to kill someone for the DB, join the legion, etc. because I'm paranoid like that).

Always back your saves up on the cloud save. I do it about every other day. Just in case my save corrupts or someone saves over it.

First off I have a separate account for guests/friends, I keep "milestone saves" of my main character (a save for right before a new quest line, sort of like chapters in his life)

Also I will say this as someone who has been playing games over 20 years: always keep a backup copy of your saves. On my xbox i play from the 320gig hard drive and use the 4gig memory as a backup for all my games saves. I also keep a second copy on a USB just in case the xbox is somehow inexplicably totalled. And just in case i lose all that somehow I have a third backup on an external hard drive as well as copies stored online (just in case)

Of course i doubt anyone needs to be as extreme as me (even i admit i am insanely paranoid with my data) and 2 copies tops is all some needs to be 100% safe let me just state that i have not lost a single file or game save i wanted to keep in around 8 years.

Edit: fixed a few spelling errors. Pardon the mistakes as i am posting from my phone and touch screens can be a little finicky.

I have only kept two saves her character (I have three characters). I never save over the wrong one. I may create some more save files just in case though.

I would think that after 5 main elder scrolls games, people would have learned by now to keep several saves in rotation.

You must be the luckiest person alive then hah. Ever since Morrowind I've kept atleast 5-6 different saves per character, sadly I didn't for my most important one. I haven't really been cautious on the Fallout series because they don't seem to get corrupted or lost as easy

I keep a 16bg usb drive with game saves from all my important games, such as Skyrim, Gears, Asassins creed, Grand theft auto because I am prone to kicking my tv stand and knocking the wires out from the Xbox.

The only reason I make extra saves is if i'm deviating from the path i've set my characters on, i.e my hero doing dedraic quests the involving killing innocent people or your companions

Sometime when I bored a save, then go around killing as many people as I can before I am killed myself then I load the save before that.
