Playing Dragonborn but not being Dragonborn

I think It would make most sense after the MQ or at the very least after you finish your training with the Greybeards.

I understand that by nature this DLC caters to our Dragonborn characters, but I have other characters who are not Dragonborn (at least by role playing definitions) and I was wondering if there's anything for those characters to do too.

You're a Dragonborn, Harry.
Spoiler
Even if you don't do the main quest, Ulfric still says at the end of the Civil War, Imperial Side, "Let the Dragonborn do it, it'll make a better story."
Spoiler
Message to Whiterun can't be completed until you've finished Dragon Rising. So by that point you've already discovered as dragonborn.

Really great question, my melee guy, (started as a Dark Elf, now's a Snow Elf [PC mod]) is not the Dragonborn and cannot shout. He's never been inside Dragonsreach and thusly, he’s never fought a dragon because they simply don’t spawn in the world. There are no dragons anywhere. You know that cool battle against two dragons on the frozen lake in Dawnguard? Didn’t happen for him. There are simply no dragons in the world.

I’m wondering how much that is going to screw up the Dragonborn DLC.

Maybe I should at least turn on dragons so I don’t miss anything but it’s so nice being able to play on a character that never gets attacked by dragons.

You need to be dragonborn to do the MQ of Dragonborn. "You didn't think that you were the only one.... He was the first.... Dragonborn."

You obviously need to be the dragonborn. The title and the narrator makes if Obvious.

Regardless if you chose to accept the role of dragonborn, you are still dragonborn :)

I know people want to be able to roleplay however they want, and hell more power to ya. But would it be the end of the world if the idea of being dragonborn was explored a little more?

I imagine it'll work like Tribunal did, but if it didn't and you had to be Dragonborn? I couldn't care less. My Dragonborn characters will partake in the quest, my non-Dragonborn will not.

Well, time to take my dragonborn out from his vacation in Cyrodiil, shame that it have to be dragonborn though, since it is set near Morrowind I was thinking to use my Nerevarine but he's not a dragonborn.

I'm pretty sure that Bethesda is too cowardly to set pre-requisites like that. It would be for the best though. Maybe they see that and they don't pull a Tribunal.

You know what, back in the day when skyrim first came out, I posted that the guy in riften that we get locked up could be our ticket to a boatride or reason for going into morrowind. Im still crossing my fingers on that one. Would make sense for us for a reason of going over there.

Sorry for double post, but just wanted to say technically u could use ur nevarine in skyrim dragonborn since on of the prophesy s in becoming nevarine was to be dragon-born. Granted in morrowind it just meant to be born in cyrodill but u could just say it meant exactly the wording it worded. Thats what im doing for my next playthru in skyrim after I finish morrowind 2 more times. Once to finish it to see how it ends and the next to join up with dagoth ur.

well in my opinion no matter what your character is still dragonborn if you haven't done a main story quest your character is still dragonborn he just doesn't know it just like harry potter being a wizard he my have not known but that does not mean he wasn't one.
that's just my opinion

I like the idea of adding the DB questline after the MQ.
And maybe Bethesda will have the guts to do it like they did for the Broken Steel DLC for Fallout 3...

I hope you have to beat the entire main quest to play Dragonborn's MQ, but you could still visit the island and do side quests.
This makes for better story telling.

No it won't be a problem because I'm very excited for this DLC, because my main is the dragonborn and I woundn't have a problem if it could only be accessed by beating the main quest, I was just wondering if there was anything for my alts to do.

"I never asked for this."

Too bad Jensen. Ur dragonborn.

But I am hoping you there is more content available for those that choose to ignore the main quest.
