Please, dont forget PVE

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 4:01 am

Hi there!
First of all, i'm excited with this new. It's something i've been waiting for long ago.

Anyways, i am half way between desire and fear. I am hearing a lot of news about a great PvP... 3 realms fighting each other... huge masive battles...
Well... all of this is fine. I am not very PvP fan, but it's allright. I understand it HAS to be in an actual game.

But please, don't forget what is the core and the heart of The Elder Scrolls. PvE has been since i was a child (and i am 38 right now) the only content. It's is what many many fans of the saga will be looking for (me included)

PvP??? of course, a great one... but always behind the PvE.

It's my opinion, and i hope that also the opinion of many others.

Again, thanks for bringing us TESO :)

PvE always comes first for most mmos. Guild Wars is a great example of PvP done right.

PVE stands for Player Vs. Environment
It's when you (or a group) fight against various monsters in the world, dungeons, raids, etc.

PVP stands for Player Vs. Player
As the name implies, it's when one player fights another player. Not a computer mind you, but another person controlling that character.

PvP sounds terrible. I'd prefer to fight monsters if anything.

I guess you don't know about the the Mythic guy who is head of the project? Dark Age of Camelot had some of the best pvp to this day. I wouldn't be surprised to see Pvp be the endgame.

I've readed some things about him, and i know he is something Big on his field, but i see some kind of contradiction between the spirit of TES series and a whole new game all pvp oriented.
i really Hope Bethesda doesn't forget this.

PvP and PvE are both things we need on here. Also it should be able to fight with non-hostile NPCs too. And one important thing which must be there are NPC AI which keeps them doing their daily duties and live with the day and night. (For example no traders on market place at night time - they should be sleeping in their homes and not to offer any services during it.)

Of course PvE has been important in TES up to now... its the only option you've ever had.

Now, I'm not at all interested in denying you your content or even necessarily placing PvP above it, but PvP is going to be integral to the success of this game, especially considering they've made the 3-faction warfare a key feature.

For those doubtful on PvP, this can add a level of dynamism you simple will never get from PvE. Players, player organizations, all fight for control of Cyrodiil? Capturing forts, farms, and castles? If these guys are making it anything like DAoC, expect it to be exciting and innovative.

Now, don't get me wrong, I totally understand your fears about it. You want to be able to play without dealing with other people sometimes, or you just want to relax with some friends clearing out a dungeon some nights. Those are legitimate ways of spending your time online in any MMO. The thing is, that content most likely will not change much until the developers add more content.

With PvP, we have a better chance of keeping the game interesting and fresh why the developers work on content. With conquerable objectives and three factions fight each other, you have a lot of possibilities for new and interesting situations arising that can never happen with only PvE.

So, PvE is important, but PvP is just as important if not more so important, if only by the fact that it gives us all something to dabble in while we await new PvE content. I would also like to encourage any of you about it to give PvP a go when his game finally comes out. A really go at it, don't just step out there into the heartlands and quit as soon as someone kills you. Really get in there and try to do something, in fact IMO no one has really tried PvP until they themselves have beat an opponent. After that, if you still don't find some small measure of appeal in it, its safe to say PvP is not for you. Anxiety towards entering combat with another players is very common in games, and no one enjoys getting utterly beaten, but those of us that enjoy it do it because its dynamic and you have to think fast, and when you finally win it makes you feel great.

Now... with this games PvP be like that? No way to really know till the game comes out. It could totally flop, but the people working on it have experience in this sort of area, so maybe we'll see something really great.

Maybe the way the games have gone, simply because of necessity, but the storyline and setting of the Elder Scrolls games has always been full of inter-faction warfare. It comes off as less a contradiction in spirit and more a chance to finally see that aspect of Tamriel properly played out.

It is. The leaked article states specifically that once you've reached the level cap the goal is for you to participate in PvP for your faction in conquering Cyrodiil.

Their plans for enemy AI make it sound like they got that covered. I'm curious to see it in action.

PvP is one of the endgames, as it should be, but the specifically mention Heroic Dungeons and other endgame PvE content.

PvE can "come first" and still get screwed up by PvP. See World of Warcraft for plenty of examples.

(Personally, I'm one of the people in the "why do people keep talking about PvP" faction. Games - other than specifically PvP games, obviously  - would be so much better without it.)

I'm really hoping we can get a mature enough community to have line battles. Doubt it, though...

Yep, I'm just hoping that PvE isn't just an afterthought. I enjoy PvP a little, but more of a "OK I have nothing else to do right now so I guess I'll PvP a little" type of way.

Actually, that is just the internet you are experiencing... and people period. PvE raiders can be just as nasty if not MORE so, and just look at these forums for further proof. At least with PvP, it gives you a chance to actually do something about it. I enjoy nothing more than calming squashing them and just walking away without lowering myself to all their kiddy little antics. They can NEVER let that go.

To be honest, while I enjoy PvE, I live for PvP. But not the cluster[censored]s of kiddies killing each other and trying to teabag you, all for the meaningless ranks or points you get. No, the best PvP is PvP that has goals and objectives that contribute to a larger cause. There is something right about fighting for a cause, claiming an objective in the name of your faction, that you simply aren't going to get anywhere else. You wont find me meaninglessly ganking people outside of the newbie gates, or corpse camping, but you will find me planting the flag on the highest tower or making that desperate charge at the enemy lines to give my allies just enough time to capture the objective. THAT, is my PvP!

It's easier to get a group of nice people to do PvE with then finding nice people to do PvP with in general.

This is what guilds are for. The real reason behind that is that all those nasty, anti-social kiddy-type players join guilds, but end up getting kicked out because well... they're [censored]s. But I encounter the same problem when it comes to random PvE groups. Theres always one guy that thinks he knows best and think everyone else is a noob.

Finding a proper guild, a mature group of gamers that share your values and put restrictions on who can join them, will enlighten ALL aspects of gaming for you. Once you're in, you'll wonder how you ever got by without them. The right guilds, will become a second family to you that'll follow you into the hellish depths of any game.

PVP will be the main focus I believe.
They talked a lot about it and with tons of hype and detail, while PVE was barely mentioned.

The whole "hundreds of people" battling each other maybe in a 1v1v1 sense with siege warfare, conquering the City...
That is interesting...in fact PVP has been the main concern for some MMOs for a while...

SWTOR: after you complete your history what can you do?Well, the PVP is quite good in the game, PVE is also present but very lackluster.
Tera: main focus being the combat, the PVE is "meh" and only interest is the political system and the PVP.
GW2: obviously PVP, the whole WvWvW thingy is amazing...the PVP there is a blast (and obviously their main concern), PVE is present but secondary.

So it′s pretty obvious PVP will be the focus in endgame (I hope the exploration/questing/combat are good too), go read the article and you′ll see.
PVE will be there, but will be just a "secondary" thing and not as good as the PVP. PVE is a hard thing to pull off (if you want it to be the endgame main concern). And overall PVP is more fun, fast and easy (for the developer).

Personally I hope there is a decent amount of PvE, but I do hope that the game is going to be much more PvP-centric.
