Poll : What is your current opinion of Obsidian?

Load a save. TAADAAAA!

It's weird. I seem to encounter that bug in 90% of today's games and nobody ever complains about it.

Awesome, and why is 1 option positive and the rest negative?... i take it you don't like New Vegas?

I know, right? I didnt vote because there was one glowing option and 6 bad ones. It was like having a scale 1-10, but 7-9 are not allowed. Weird.

Also, those feelings are so very specific. I think a numerical poll or more general descriptive options would be better.

How about Great, Good, Passable, Poor, Awful?

I think the bugs that people on the internet keep complaining about are the minority, honestly. It's just that people who happen to encounter bad bugs on their system are more likely to report them. As for my opinion of Obsidian, this is my first Obsidian game, and I have much respect for them regardless of how good their past exploits are. I wouldn't mind if Obsidian just began developing the future Fallout games, no doubt.

I wish they had told us about the bugs so I could have bought the game on xbox and not ps3 and was massively disappointed there is no poker in a game called new Vegas . Who decided to not have poker ? He should be made to clean toilets at the office for 3 months

It's a good thing you got the non-Xbox version. From what I hear, the xbox version has the most bugs this time around. :P

I don't think you have a very reliable source for you information. If anything the Xbox version had the least bugs. Xbox users also got the new patch first.

well of course people who encounter problems are going to report them.

even if we are a 'minority' of new vegas players experiencing horrible bugs that doesnt mean squat, my game wont work so obsidian needs to fix it, its very simple. im stuck in gamorrah casino and it freezes every time i try to exit. im not going to restart or load an older save, i want the one i spent many hours on to work the way its supposed to.

if you buy a brand new car and the engine stops working after 1 day wouldnt you be upset and want to get it fixed or replaced asap? i know as soon as ANY of you encounter the problems i have you will say exactly what i am.

I don't care about the bugs all that much. They get under my skin sometimes but not enough to make me lose any respect for Obsidian. I honestly respect Obsidian more than I did before the game was released because of the fact that they improved on almost everything that was established with Fallout 3. If Bethesda learns from what Obsidian improved, Fallout 4 will be a great RPG. But I'm also disappointed that they failed to create a world that captured me as much as Fallout 3 did, though as I've already realized it was foolhardy to think they could come anywhere near Bethesda in that department. But that's not really their fault. They made a good RPG that will likely make Fallout 4 an even better RPG and even though I wont be able to bring myself to play New Vegas after my first playthrough of ~100 hours, I still respect them for the many things they did do right.

To take your car anology a step further, say you did buy a new car and it developed a serious rod knock on day 1. You bring it in. The techs start working on it. Then you start screaming in the lobby because they can't overhaul an engine in 10 minutes flat. So, they have to pull the mechanic off the job every few minutes to attempt to convince you that it is being worked on, all while not actually working on it because he keeps getting summoned to the lobby. Someone else, we'll say me, comes in with their engine just as dead as yours. They let the desk know, then quietly sit in the corner and watch Youtube videos on their phone. In and out, two hours flat.

Constantly screaming and moaning about the bugs in NV is only going to slow the patch down if it does anything at all. Mention it once, politely, then just let them do their job. They'll get the patch out faster. That PC savegame bug hit me, my autosaves didn't work. I didn't whine about it, I just made manual saves and they eventually patched a workaround in that fixed the problem.

Patience, friend. It's something you need when dealing with something that's broken, and a lack of it is why many people don't like working in public service jobs of some sort.

fallout NV is an amazing game, so amazing that im angry because i cant play it lmao!

small bugs are fine but when i cant play the game i just get really agitated. its 2010, you would think that games would be fully optimized on release.

and to the post above me, if you were addicted to the game as much as i am you would understand~

im not demanding they stop working on the patch, it would be nice if someone on the team could spend 30 seconds and tell us the patch will be here tomorrow or the next day or whatever. and if i got a new car and it stopped working right away i would certainly be angry at the cars manufacturer for letting such an epic fail to be there in the first place. *cough* toyota*

That's not what I see looking in the tech support forums. Or maybe it's just that the xboxers are more loud about it. :P

we are generally. :swear:

Ive encountered several bugs nothing really game breaking. Fallen through scenery (trapped in a rock with 5 deathclaws) and veronica has gone for a wander while i was at the boomer base.

Im not going to make fuss about it because i rather deal with people complaing about the ending. :fallout:

I loved NWN2 and I love Fallout NV. I have always felt that I get a real value for my gaming dollar with their games. Their games are well supported by not only Obsidian, but by the community as well. Their games have replay and longevity due a generally modifiable infrastructure and a community that jumps in with lotsa mods.

A close second to the game in enjoyable experiences is watching the forums shortly after a new games release where the vocal minority who are not happy with the game desperately seek affirmation and confirmation that others feel as they do. :celebration:

funny, [censored] putting down people who are having gamebreaking bugs. yeah because we completely wanted these issues to happen.

no corrupt saves and freezing and even more people would be fully satisfied. love the game, just annoyed at these [censored] bugs.

If they prove they care about their game and their fans by ironing out as many of the bugs as they can, then I say bravo. I have no illusions that making an open world rpg is easy, especially on a tight schedule. But technical issues aside, they've made a worthy successor to FO3.

Right. Right. New Vegas makes no improvements what so ever over Fallout 3. And guess what? Fallout 3 still has a level cap. They never changed that. Fallout 4 will probably have a level cap. What kind of developer doesn't learn from his own mistakes?

Or maybe Obsidian should just listen to everything the community says. I'm sure that would lead to a fantastic game. :glare:

While New Vegas has its flaws, it does have definite improvements 'over' Fallout 3.
Some of the features New Vegas has introduced;
Medicinal crafting
Ammo crafting
An economy that isn't broken
Useful Speech skill
Robust faction system that actually isn't shallow
Lots more side-quests
Mobs that attack in groups

They are all good!

I am very pleased with New Vegas, onr of my favourite changes is the ability to repair items to 100% without 100% Repair skill.
I had no opinion on Obsidian before New Vegas, because New Vegas is the first Obsidian game I've played. Well, I did have a strong opinion because of how many FO1 & 2 developers work there.

I'll say it's great. First game since morrowind that's gotten me off my butt and back into modding. That's saying something.

As of New Vegas, I consider Obsidian better RPG developers than Bethesda.

Overall they did a good job but could improve on some areas.

I really like NV and I think they did a great job, but like FO3 they both could have used a little bit more to make them great games.

I haven't had any major bug so far (40+ hours) just once had some enemies in walls and once needed to reload a save to get a companion to follow me. All in all well on par with other games and Bethesda as far as bugs in my experience. I found it really interesting to play such a similar game to FO3 made but another company, as there are a few positive and a few negative in that comparison. Just to generalize a bit but I think you can tell that Obsidian doesn't have quite the resources to throw at a game but then they had a premade engine and such so I felt there was a lack of improvement in some game features.

If I had to rank Obsidian with Bethesda (FO3) = 100 as the standard I'd probably give Obsidian a score of 100 as well. I was never really a fan of NWN's (always liked bulders gate more) and their take on KOTOR svcked or was unfinished I can't remember. Dungeon Siege 3 is supposedly basically a console game so I'm not going to buy that. All in all their only games that I am interested in are fallout games and NV is good, so my opinion of them is good and I'd buy another FO game made by them. My only real complaints for both FO3 and FO:NV are minor and I'd rank both games around 90/100.

I think I like Obsidian's take on FO a bit more but that could be since they had so much groundwork laid out for them already, already heard the complaints of fans, and such.

Where's the option for "Obsidian is full of ignorance and learns nothing from other game developer's mistakes."

The lead creator of Fallout 3 said he learned two main lessons from Fallout 3:

1) Don't have a definitive ending.
2) Don't put a level cap

Guess which game has both?

Hmmm...how come I can enjoy the game and YOU cant? Maybe because you are so unappreciative of everything? People ten years ago would actually go insane if a game like this was released, and yet you hate the creators because of opinionated annoyences...I can handle the bugs, I can handle the definitive ending...why cant you?
