Pop Music

I know there's a 'http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1335768-why-do-we-hate-those-who-sing-pop-music/page__st__90__p__20115019__hl__pop%20music__fromsearch__1#entry20115019' (so if you wish to discuss how you don't like it, feel free to go there and do so) thread, but I was hoping to have a discussion not about hating pop music, but about enjoying it and seeing what other people enjoy...Unless of course I'm the only one who will admit they enjoy listening to some pop here and there.

Anyway lately I've become obsessed with Natalia Kills, a 25 year old British pop artist. I think she's the next Katy Perry / Lady Gaga and at times her music sounds similar to both of those popular (and in my opinion, great) artists. Her song Mirrors (produced by Akon) is really catchy and I think the sound on this song is most similar to Gaga with a bit of Perry in there.

On "Zombie" the beat sounds like a Kanye West beat, and the vocals are autotuned so again it sounds like a pop version of Kanye in a weird way. Regardless it's very catchy.

I love every song on the album and can't stop listening to it, but if I had to point out a third song it's "Wonderland" a very addicting and awesome song that starts off the album. It's just amazing.

On a side note I've been addicted to Neon Hitch's single from her soon to be released album called "F*** U Betta". Hitch is also a British pop singer and I think she has the potential to be huge as well.

So what are you listening to? What would you recommend? My favorites are obviously Katy Perry and Lady Gaga, I just really like that kind of sound. I know Adele is favored to kill at the Grammys... I have her album but haven't listened to it a whole lot yet.

Yeah I bought Born This Way when it came out but never really listened to it. I tried to but it never caught me like the other albums. Maybe I'll give it another try sometime.

I like the instrumentation on some Katy Perry songs, but I'm not a fan of her singing.

I've been meaning to check out Lady Gaga. What I've heard is unique as far as pop music goes.

I don't like the singing/songwriting/production in any modern pop releases. After the turn of the century I stopped caring for it.

There's 1 pop act from the 80's called Scritti Politti that I find really remarkable for being that typical sugar-coated pop.

I end up listening to a lot of the latest popular music because of lots of short drives around the city in a car that doesn't support an MP3 player. I don't like most of it, but I've come to just try to listen to it and take it for what it is, and it's not all bad.

I can't really name any names though, since I pretty much just hear them on the radio and DJs these days never do their job of telling you what song you just heard.

The only pop artist or female artist I like is Britney Spears.

Edit: And I don't like most of her new stuff.

A while back I had only one radio station worth anything to listen to on the commute to work. They only really had a few songs, but they played them over and over and over again.

One was that http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGT6AKt3eYM. I like both versions of that song a lot.

The thing with pop music is, more than other genres, it's very song dependent. I don't consider myself a Rihanna fan, even though I like that one song. I don't think of myself as a K'naan fan even though I like that http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhM-cpSwrmM

Or are neither of those pop songs?

I understand Alizee is supposed to be pop in France. Or maybe it was at once time. I love her http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAP8X9KFOdw

And I guess http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_bJ59u3C1E totally counts, right? I mean it's pop to Japanese people.

Honestly song taxonomy like this just doesn't really hold a place in my mind.

Sometimes pop music just fits your mood, or whatever. I am not an avid pop music fan, but I pick up bits and pieces here and there, just really random, if I hear something I like I'll search it out. I do like Lady Gaga - it's good running music.

I find that I only enjoy pop music that has aged and has nostalgic value. 80s / 90s pop in particular.

Early 00s pop is almost at that stage.. and in a decade or so from now, i'll probably enjoy 2011/12 pop music.

There is only 80's pop. So bad it was good (which could be said about pretty much everything from the 80's)

I stopped listening to new music in 2000 so not up to snuff with what the kids listen to these days.

Even though I prefer 70s prog-rock, there's some pop music that I do like. Stuff like Aly & AJ/78violet, Dia Frampton and Breanne Duren. Was also a huge fan and supporter of B*Witched when they were around.
If Andrew W.K. and James Durbin count as "pop", I guess that would also be pop music I like as well.

And I already brought up that I liked Lights Poxleitner, at least during her The Listening era...but as of late she's taken directions in her music (among other things) that I just don't like...

As for the big-name, A-list stuff? Most of it I'm just "meh" about (Adele, Lady Gaga), and there's certain major pop artists that I just can't stand (Beyonce, Bieber, LMFAO)...

Anyone here listen to K Pop?
