Possibility of a High Resolution Patch for Dishonored PC Ver

Post » Thu Nov 15, 2012 2:25 am

From what I understand, that's kind of the point of a watercolour aesthetic.
For walls, trees, etc, I agree - but what about posters, leaflets, signs?

Anyways - if you move close to a watercolour painting, you do not begin to see the big square pixels, right? So if the textures were of higher resolution they could stil preserve the watercolour quality, but they woudl be not as pixellated.

Take a look at these screens - are they consistent with "watercolour easthetisc", or simply blurry?

Finally - does watercolour aesthetic prevents gamers from being able to read this leaflet? http://www.imagebam.com/image/4e0667214314736

Right.

They can 100% preserve the style/aesthetic with much higher resolution textures. The kicker is that they probably already have them as you generally start from high resolution assets in the first place. They compress them enough to meet the requirements of the Console HW (lowest common denominator) and then, to save work, they use similar assets on all of the platforms (even though most gaming PCs could handle MUCH more texture data).

I know and that is why I still hope that we will get some sort of HD textures pattch. I'd LOVE to read this "Whale Oil Tax" notice, including the small type at the bottom :)

DX11 would be great(I tire of seeing all these dx9 releases) as far as the Texture Pack I see no need.
You guys(gals) also realize that this game is developed by Arkane Studios so if you want a Texture pack etc. I would tell them directly.

Funny... I see no need for DX11 at this time. People seem to be under the false assumption that new automatically equals better. There are only a few engines out there that really leverage the impressive DX11 features (Crytek... err... that's pretty much it...) and the best features of DX11 (Tessellation, etc) can only really be used on the higher end hardware. I don't blame game developers for choosing not to cater to such a minority of end users (at this time).

There are supposedly some performance advantages in using the DX11 versions of certain shaders but, at least in my experience, I've almost always experience more reliable and consistent performance in DX9 (probably because there are very mature DX9 engines, like Unreal). There are some exceptions to this... but those exceptions only serve to prove the rule in my opinion.

Introducing higher resolution textures would very quickly add a great deal of image quality to the PC version (at a pretty low effort to reward ratio for the developers).

DX11 only makes a difference if the dev team goes the extra mile and actually implements it well. Most don't, thus games like Arkham City which most prefer to run without DX11 because it just robs performance, and all it adds is a bit higher tesselation on Ivy's vines.

Has anyone tried the tweaks I mentioned above? It's not as good as HD textures, but it definitely makes a difference.

Yeah I'm probably going to try that when I get my 660 Ti in a few days. I might bump them slightly even with my 250 meanwhile. What's weird is rat shadows looks non existent in some places, and in others it's really noticeable.

The best edit tweaks I've used so far are quadrupling AF and doubling Detail Mode.

I totally agree that this game would definitely benefit from an HD texture patch or DLC.

HOWEVER, I have found that a few file edits can make quite a bit of difference. For those playing on PC, this is what I did to tweak the game.

I tried these changes and they didn't seem to apply in the game.

Looks like I can do it, only not in the game. Just found the ultimate proof that hi res textures exist. There were cunningly hidden here:

I left the rat shadows disabled for now.....get a bit of stutter after loading a save(seems to be a game issue) will do some more tweaking after a patch.

It's not just compression, also shrinking to a smaller size. It still does not explain why such textures could not be left in the PC version.

I am asking about PC version, not console. Somehow Borderlands 2, Max Payne 3, Skyrim, Sleeping Dogs, Crysis 2 - all console games too - got high resolution textures on PC. So "console" is no excuse. More like "apathy".

I bought skyrim on release can't speak for the other games but it didn't have it on release and the reason is consoles. Adding a texture pack for PC is an easy free bonus DLC because of texture compression being way too extreme for the dinosaur consoles. I don't doubt you will see a texture pack for Dishonored but expecting it on release is like me expecting the game to run perfect when it is a port. I wouldn't say it is apathy just a business decision I mean the PC version is far from done when it comes to settings....no in game AF to bump up? Sure that is an easy fix but still it needs quite a bit more than just a texture pack.

I don't have any problem with the character and environment textures, it's a just a shame that the fine details like signs are so blurry and impossible to read. I was playing Condemned recently, a game over six years old, and the textures for signs and the like are much clearer than those in Dishonored.

Agreed the AF should really be in the in game graphics options....talk about being rushed out.
Doubling detail mode? Can you elaborate?
