CD is a lot more accepting these days, and quite slow in comparison to the hey day when I joined.

Hey!! Can i ask you a question good sir?
How do you become a moderator?

The standard reply that we send out when someone inquires is based around this-

Thanks for your interest, although we are not actively seeking new moderators at the moment we always keep an eye on the membership for potential candidates. When the need arises to add one or more moderators we look for those who are helpful on the forums, those who can keep a calm approach no matter what is thrown at them and those who are a positive influence in general. We also have to take geographic location as a factor, it is no good having all our moderators in one time zone as we need a 24 hour coverage, and anyone appointed has to be over the age of 18 due to some of the content we unfortunately have to deal with at times.

That varies depending on what is asked, plus we do not strictly follow it as if we see someone we think will make a good mod will often be brought on even though they don't fit in the time zone requirement - we have to grab them whilst we can

I dislike crumpets and tea!!! All I get is rain and snow!! The open air here is blisteringly cold and I do not enjoy! Come out your tower :pinch:

You have to PM Gstaff, and it doesn't happen often.

I truely regret the 12 at the end of my name for example, but it probably isn't worth bothering the forum gods about, whereas if it was penfifteen then it would get changed rather quickly.

Yeah, we're humble like that :P BTW i'm fine with my name... thanks for the info :goodjob:

Don't forget to mention that you need a decent avatar, too.

How are moderators chosen?
They get a bunch of paper and they put random names on it, then they put it all in a hat, and finally (while blindfolded) they randomly take out a name from the hat.

We also have to take geographic location as a factor, it is no good having all our moderators in one time zone as we need a 24 hour coverage, and anyone appointed has to be over the age of 18 due to some of the content we unfortunately have to deal with at times.
So basically you have to give your SS # and personal info to become a mod?

Then that person is killed in a very interesting way. This continues until there is only one name left.

I think he means that you have to be 18 because of the graphic content sometimes posted on the forums that must dealt with by the moderators.

Like a while back when we had that "naughty picture" fiasco thing. I doubt it would be very appropriate to have a 15 year old moderator dealing with an incident such as that.

But they do have to give out a bit of personal info, so that they can have their free autographed games mailed to them :P

I swear everytime after a thread gets moved to CD, I always see people that I have never seen post once in CD, so I always think someone changed their avatar. :ermm:

OT: Is Rohugh all knowing?

EDIT: Of course he is, what was I thinking :P

Yes, it is all tied in with the privacy policy, although we move such stuff off the forums as quickly as possible it remains in our trash forum so it is still visible to mods and admin.

I have made this topic for those who are confused about how this site works and have questions. I have a question that hopefully someone can answser and to start the questions/answers. How do i rank up on this site? I am a novice and i am just wondering how to rank up.
As said, it's in our pinned rules. Read all about it!
How are moderators chosen?
We all pitch in names of those who seem kind, helpful, polite and level headed. That narrows it down quite a bit. If we think of someone and go through their posting history and find them being rude, they're out. Then we select a few out of those who we all agree would be good candidates and from those names admin selects the ones they agree upon as well. Those people then either get an email or a pm from the admin team (usually Gstaff now) and the bug guy bust in to lure you to the black van with bird seed, coffee, tea or bunnies or whatever your weakness is. Once they have you in the van you are wisked away and chained to a desk in a dark basemant where we are forced to feed the cyber chinchillas that run the servers troll fat all day.
Why do people not notice the 'no spoilers' sticky in the general section?
Because people don't read stickies as evidenced by the OP not reading the rules where his question is answered. You tell me.
There is a sticky at the top of this forum called "Important Forum Information." It's worth reading. http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1148071-important-forum-information/
Thank you. Everyone should read those. Lots of rules very specific to this forum which are not followed elsewhere. It will keep you out of trouble as well as answer many questions about how the place is run.

Wow this topic is getting a good amount of moderator attention. Big name ones to. Maybe this topic will get me noticed. I hope :)

I don't get why people would want to be a moderator. In fact, I think those that want to be shouldn't be allowed because they want to be one for the wrong reasons.
  • You can't spam
  • You can't get into big irrational arguments with people
  • You can't post drunk on the forum
  • etc
Quite clearly moderators are insane for accepting

Although a question. Are moderators allow multiple accounts?

What can I say... You clearly haven't been to the admin board. :hehe:

But we are allowed to moderate while drunk. Just not both drunk and naked.

Users can have more than one account as well. You just can't go getting perma banned then go creating new one - they'll just be banned automatically once they realise who you originally were.
Like after the hacking incident a few people had created secondary accounts when their master account had been disabled or deleted.

Users are allowed more than one account, and there are quite a few who have. However, if anyone has a warning against an account then we immediately close all other of their accounts and just allow the one, you could imagine that someone could have three accounts all with several warnings logged on them, it defeats the object of the "three warnings and then you are out" rule, the warnings are against the person and not their account name.
