Some will complain but they will ruin there own fun by LOOKING for things to complain about or just endlessly whining, Some people get more out of that than the fun of the game.

Yeah... I can see stuff and think "well I bet that will be on the forums" but I look left and see a tree in the haze and by the time I've looked back I've forgotten all about it.

This game is about being in a world and playing around, not obsessing over minor technical details.

I haven't even left the south yet, I only got to within-a-few-hours-of Riften cos I took a wrong turn on the way from Windhelm to Falkreath. It is much much much bigger than Oblivion. Don't care about measurements. Whiterun to Falkreath (the right way) feels like Anvil to Imperial City did in Oblivion.

epic, my expectations were more than meant. anyone complaining has no bearing over how unrealistic they are being. It's excellent.

The game is amazing. Currently im lost in not the main quest, not the graphics, but the crafting system.

I want to smithing something, improve it and then enchant it then sale it for a 400% profit.

I want to make every potion

I want to make jewelry and enchant it!

I hate how they dumbed down the stats but the crafting is the best its every been

I give it a 9.5

If Beth had of placed the exact same leveling system and attributes along with the exact same menu system into this game, how much fun would it have been then.. Absolutely none...... If you upgrade from a 2000 model camaro to a 2010 model, the fracking guages are different!.. Get over it folks! Its called modernization and moving up in the world.

Say they stuck with the same dungeons along with the same type of chest opening, how much fun would it have been.. Some times, young little teenie dogs, please don't include me, need to be taught new tricks..

Play the darned game and enjoy it!

Respectfully,

Sawacs

Played it for a couple hours so far. I seriously love this game, almost everything about it.

The only things that pissed me off so far is the extremely crappy UI for PC (some hotkeys I reset aren't even working now), and the main map and local map are extremely useless, add on the fact that with low res textures on the PC I can't even read the signs. So I'm kind of just wondering aimlessly.

It was really laggy for the opening and beginning, so I had to exit game and tweak the resolution but then it ran very smoothly. I was pleasantly surprised by the liveliness of the world, for example, fish jumping down the river, a moose standing near by the river and drinking water ( i think it was). The only npc's with the same voice I found were the Whiterun guards who all seemed to all have a french-bretonish accent but not all guards. I love the dual wielding and dual casting, its very cool. In my first dungeon, some mine full of bandits, I saw a bandit sitting on a stool cooking some pork or bacon in a cooking pot so I killed him and stole the bacon :D. The thing I was most impressed by, however, was the sound and music. Especially the music, it's abosultley amazing. The sword fighting sounds are cool as well, and it makes being in a one on one duel with a bandit immersive.

Overall, this is definatley somewhere in my top 3 favourite games of all time and I can't wait to explore more. Skyrim FTW :celebration: !
Skyrim deserves tons of GOTY awards, IMO.

i played on the xbox for maybe 5-6 hours...the UI is just a dream. I loved everything about the game that I experienced. I hated Oblivion so much on the xbox it drove me mad, Skyrim was all so refreshing. The only gripe I had was the graphics were just horrible...muddy textures, so much texture pop in, sprites., etc. People rave about the graphics on the xbox version but I don't get it. Maybe if you sit 50 feet away from your tv and squint it looks awesome but whatever, the xbox hardware is not Beth's fault. it looks about as good as the latest iteration of xbox gaming should so no worries, forgiven.

...so trying to get away from that graphical horror I tried out the PC version. Ok now we've got great graphics (not the head turner that Oblivion was back in the day however it looks fantastic on my rig). But now we've got serious UI issues coming from playing on the xbox. This UI is just a bad, bad idea on PC.

I mean it's really clunky it's just disgusting. It works so flawlessly on the console and such a treat that it's so jarring the way I came into it. I think I can get used to it but it's gonna take a while. I was considering earlier today using a gamepad on the PC vs mouse/keyboard. Because mouse/keyboard are a lost cause atm imho but I'll work on it. I really did myself a disservice going console to pc in terms of the UI.

one positive thing I will say about the UI is I love that fact that I can bind favs to 1-8 now. I hated there being no ways to really fast switch on the console aside from left and right on the anolog stick.

the map is just odd. the fact that it's 3d just gives you the wrong impression that you can get to here from there easily. but in reality there might be a mountain in the way or a road that zig zags all over the place before you get to that place :)

one other minor quibble so far that goes back to my console experience is the M1 and M2 bindings. They're reversed on PC if you think of it in terms of L1 and R1 from a gamepad. it's been driving me mad :D

I agree with you 100%.. incredible experience..

I'll post my system specs a second time to give folks and idea.. I am not running on ultra settings and see no reason to.. All that glare crap they put into the game is rediculous:)

Asus Maximus III Formula
I7 860@3.6 ghz
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (4gbx2)

The only gripe I had [with the 360 version] was the graphics were just horrible...muddy textures, so much texture pop in, sprites., etc.
I assume you're aware of the glitch with textures not loading properly on the 360 version. I also experienced this, when I had the game installed on the 360's hard drive. I uninstalled and started playing off the game disk, and the problem has more or less disappeared. (Although some report the problem occurring regardless of whether they've installed or not.)

Anyhow, gamesas is working on a patch.

As for my first impressions, I like it a lot so far, but at this point I still have that feeling of being overwhelmed with the game's sheer size, and worried that I'm not building my character correctly. I was trying to play a more-or-less pure mage--a first for me--but at my current low level many enemies are still able to close the distance on me before my spells can take them down, so I'm falling back on battlemage tactics (whacking them with a mace while I wait for my magicka to regen), which I told myself I wasn't going to do this time, since I always play that way and I've been getting bored with it.

But I always feel this way at the beginning of an RPG. I expect I'm really going to get drawn in during my second play session tomorrow (technically, later today).

ah thanks for the patch info. i think i'm done with the 360 ver though, I want to experience it on PC.

I agree with you about being overwhelmed. As you get older games like Skyrim just make you sad because you can't invest 100 hours of awesomeness into a fully open world anymore...nevermind replays with different classes. It's just not possible, real life gets in the way :(

and myself I promised I would try and go full melee this time around but I just love the spell system too much. I always play casters and it's what makes me happy so whatever. The armor is just so pretty in Skyrim I wanted to see what that Heavy Dragon looks like on a Nord hehe. I've fallen into battlemage myself, at least for the beginning until i get some freeze or slow spells or more dps.

I hear you. I love these games dearly, but the idea of actually replaying something so massive is daunting.

But I managed to put real life on hold for today--took the day off for Skyrim, and I have a very indulgent wife (also a gamer) who spent much of the day downstairs playing it with me and coaching me along (She's delighted I'm making a real effort with alchemy this time.)

Good luck with your mage. I'm playing a Breton, so I'm going to hit the Conjuration school (another first for me) pretty hard. Just learned my first Atronach summoning spell. It's going to eat virtually all my magicka to cast it, but I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Played for 3 hrs, pc. No quests yet, just looking around.

The good: Another province to explore!

Looks beautiful from a distance. And runs quite well on my powerful comp..

Nice character models and lots of customization.

The bad: Character creation... a pixelated nose pointing at me! http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=30

The control scheme needs some work... ex the "favorite" system doesn't work well with a keyboard. Controls feel floaty. I really miss the Darnified UI...

Many textures don't look nice close up... ex certain harvest-able plants somehow look far less detailed than some vanilla OB plants.

I found the constellation/skill area nifty for about 10 seconds... now it feels like a case of design without consideration for ergonomics.

No side-stepping animation!

Those are some of my very first impressions. In all honesty, negatives generally stand out more than positives with most things... I do however look forward to further exploration as that is what TES is all about for me. :ahhh:

Everything's too grey, melee combat still svcks balls and there're some really random, absolutely horrible textures on the 360 version sitting right next to the best textures I've ever seen on the console. I'm uninstalling it from my HDD today though so that might change.

Other than that, [censored] amazing (I'm a nitpicker).

fantastic, probably one of the best games ever, but still with many of the same old flaws.
  • after playing battlefield 3 so much, the character animations still look pretty bad. Bethesda is playing catch-up with this issue.
  • some serious framerate issues with the xbox 360 version.
  • NPCs don't react well enough to their surroundings.
but other than that and a couple other minor faults the game is wonderful.

melee battles are much better, sneaking is better, i personally like the magic system better.
also, you can't get filthy rich super fast, (at least i havent like i did with OB, MW, and DF) which is nice.
cities seem so alive, although none are densely populated like assassins creed or anything, but we already knew that.
The world is scary again, like it was in DF and MW.
perk system is great.
finishing moves can often be very satisfying (although they can often be annoying as well).

i can sit here and keep thinking of things but i'll stop myself now. FIRST IMPRESSION=GOTY

I like it (if i don't think about the UI and laborious weapon spell change). Graphics are awesome The flame Atronach is fantasticly sixy and a work of digital art. It seems a bit easy combat wise with the exception of a giant that one shotted me and launched me in to space.

Perk system is good but Don't like the way its presented I would prefer to be able to see all of each individual tree at once without have to scroll up and down to see what choice's are available.

The first time I fought a dragon was so EPIC (Not the named dragon). I found him on my way to riften. He flew around, attacked a couple of goats, He breathed fire at me. he landed for a few chops at me. Took to the air, then went off to go set some wolves on fire. Some other wolves ran at me trying to get a free lunch, but I shot them down easily. Then the dragon came back to breath some more fire on me. he landed allmost on top me me and breathed more fire (I was out of potions by this point). Then he flew away to go eat a Necromancer and some more bandits, He just didnt even care tha tI was there. then he continued to fly up the side of a mountain and attack some more bandits then as I was just catching up to him a huge sabre tooth tigre jumped on my back and ripped my to shreads.

it was AWSOME!!!!!!!!!

Whats great is dragons are hostile to everyone. So as he was flying around, other rogue mages and bandit archers were trying to take him down too.

I love the smithing and crafting, it's fun. Although while I was trying to impress Adrianne Avenicci with my mad smithing skillz, I noticed that in the animation I'm holding the red hot end of the metal, and pounding the cold end. Note to someone at Bethesda....you hit the HOT end with the hammer, not the cold end :)

Loved the intro sequence of the game seemed like a movie. They shouldve gotten better voice talent for the intro though since its so key. Wonder how they let stuff like that slip by. I think that next game they should hire some real people from Hollywood to work on the voice aspect of the game.

The dual weilding system with spells or weapons is great. The visual look of the game is better than Oblivion. The plot seems to be uber. Like how there are so many trades to do.

I dont even mind the interface. Some people on the PC dont like it but I think its fine.

Great game!

~4-5 hours played. Not a lot.

My first and foremost gripe is movement and to a lesser but related extent, controls. My character is slow to move and slow to turn, which is annoying when enemies are all speedsters that are fairly skilled in movement and flanking my ass. The sensitivity doesn't help, as there's no middle ground. It's either too slow or too fast to where I press to turn and I spin around like a top.
That's the most annoying thing for me right now. I can even excuse the ultra-small text, since I can still read it (provided there is a dark enough background). Which is my second issue, and I hope we eventually get a setting to help that. But I doubt we will, since I have the same problem with Dragon Age 2 and there's been nary an update for a "text size" setting.

Still not sure how I feel about the leveling system yet. I like how "everything" contributes to a complete level up and yet, I don't actually level any faster. Although this is probably because half my playtime was spent getting to Riften so I could get to the Thieves Guild. But hey, this is a first impressions, not a review. I still wish there was an easier way to level up my sneak, which is VITAL. One little slip and suddenly those two bandits in the Riften Ratway charge me like a couple of wolves. Not gonna call it unbalanced, but it was certainly unfair since I didn't do anything to alert them. I just need a higher sneak.

As far as good things go? Basically everything else.
I love how elves look more iconic now rather than round faces with long ears.
Love the voices.
I love crafting, but I don't like how am forced to carry around way too much weight in craftable materials. But I accept this, because ingots in real life are NOT light things. Still, it cuts down on my ability to steal as much crap as possible. But hey, trade offs, right?

There will be more things to love. As I said, only a few hours.

I love how things got improved that were asked for (at least by me). I love how bandit hideouts are now actually really well defended on ground level. In oblivion it was always a maximum of 3 enemies, without having any advantage of fortifications or stuff like that. Now, there's actual bandit forts and camps where there's 3 archers firing at you from the walls, 2 melee dudes either blocking your way inside or charging at you and sometimes a spellcaster because why not. It really makes it a challenge to take over a fort.

Also every dungeon seems to have a story, or at least a reason for being there. Like the mammoth poachers northwest of whiterun.
