For those of us not playing New Vegas on a PC...

People with consoles and no computer for gaming got the console from their parents or some other family member as a gift, more often than not. Computers are not expensive, even for gaming, if you know where to shop and what you're looking for. The problem is, the average person doesn't have a clue when it comes to electronics. There are so many things out there and even many retailers can't give an unsure customer a straight answer about what would be best suited to their needs; either because they don't know, or simply want a bigger commission and will try to sell you something that is overpriced.

Building a computer is something a lot of people consider a daunting task; but it's really very simple. You get the right components, and you put them together in a super simple TAB A into SLOT B method. I mention this because buying the component on their own and putting the machine together yourself is the cheapest way to get a decent computer, and one ensured to suit your needs perfectly.

You also don't need the top of the line items to get the best performance for MOST of the games out there. My machine is somewhat of a low-mid range machine, and it can play even some of the most demanding games on high; my specs:

Windows 7 32-Bit Ultimate
2GB DDR2 RAM
ATI Radeon HD4670
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz
2x500GB HDD
17.5'' LCD Monitor

For the entire machine, including the case and some fans, was only around $750.

I grew up with consoles.
I don't care about mods. I prefer the game how it is.
I'd feel more likely to cheat.
The only thing a PC is to me is the internet.
I'm not much of a gamer anyway. My PS3 collected dust for months until Vegas released.

yeahh me to partner i was raised around Consoles really i never played a PC Game maybe just once but i really never have like the PC for gaming i usually use it more for the internet!!!

Well everyone has their own opinions......

Ex-freaking-actly.

So why must there be headbutting, and spent fuel tanks, and charred remains.

why does each side feel the need to put down the other for no reason? to feel better inside? at the end of the day everyone still has their respective systems and enjoys them. but God be smited someone has a differeing opinion thats viewed as an attack on your way of life, oh no the sticks and barbed wire come out so quicky its comical.

who cares.

Shut the hell up and play.

Price has nothing to do with it. (at least for me)

I can easily afford a "gaming" PC. I can easily build a "gaming" PC. I've got the certifications to prove it. (big deal)
I used to play all games on the PC and was a HARSH critic of the consoles. I didn't like the controllers, mouse/keyboard really IS beetter, I didnt' like the lower video quality...
But, after a while it got old. To play each year's new games (at the best frame rates, resolution etc) I would usually upgrade my Video card. Figure, $300, sometimes more for the level of cards I was using (was a Voodoo lover for a while). Then I'd fight the drivers war when it seemed that every other game had a different driver issue. Whether video, sound or... whatever. While these issues aren't as bad as they were, say 5 years ago, it was a pain. Though, yes, it was doable.

Once the next gen consoles came out with hi-def I started thinking... well, maybe... then after playing some Gears of War and other games at my brother's house I bought a 360.

Here's why:

No more hardware or software (OS?) upgrades until the next, next gen consoles come out. Every game I get was purpose built to work specifically on my machine.
No driver issues, EVER. Just put in ANY disk, hit start, play.
Ease of multilplayer use. Especially on the 360. As soon as I start up I see who is on-line, what game they are playing and if their game is joinable (30 seconds after powering up) SuWEEET!
In game and out of game chat, parties etc. built in. *I wasn't a fan of this until I started using it. Now I love it.
Downloadable content (movies, trailers, game demos), while I could get these on the PC (and sometimes do), I do like having it all in one menu that I can browse and queue up my downloads.
Instant patches! No having to download and install patches. I start the game, it pauses, loads the patch immediately, continues on to the start menu. All while I grab a beer.
Instant access. I don't leave the couch. I turn off them game, movie, whatever and pick up my console controller, hit one button and the system power up and off I go on my giant high def TV.
(Yes, I know I can hook my PC up to my TV too)
Mods are nice. Been there, done that. But I normally got bored with them not too long after figuring out how to make silly stuff happen in game. It just got old.

I now own a 360 elite, a PS3 (my blue ray player. Nice bonus) and a Wii (keeps the wife busy in another room)

Four years ago I would have bet a pile of money that I would NEVER own a console. "Screw that amature hour stuff" but now... well, I stand corrected.

Your mileage may vary.

I'm both not willing to spend hundreds of dollars to upgrade this PC (which would require replacing most of the components, or getting a new PC) or able to spend that much. Add in the fact I just grew tired of PC gaming in general - the strange bugs, the seemingly random issues, lack of optimization, and so on. I got tired of having to keep pouring money into the thing just to run a game acceptably.

I miss some bits of it like modding, but most of the games I play are just fine on a console. I put it in, and it works.

Also, PC gaming isn't nearly what it was when I was still interested.

55" 1080p TV
7.1 Surround
comfy couch
wireless PS3 controller

thats beats anything a PC can do, even with mods.. I had Fallout3 on the PC and hardly played it, plus the game plays really well with a controller and I find the PS3 controller very comfortable

Ah, but, with such a huge TV, you actually lose quality, don't you, since the game runs on 1280x720. Now, with a PC, you can fully utilize that resolution by hooking up your PC to the HDTV.

Well i dont feel like updating my computer every 6months to get everything out of a never games, /speed and graphics wise. So console is as good to me. Sure mods are impressive to have but i can live without them.
Graphical differences are notable between PC and console but i really dont care that much. If the game is good i dont mind bit poo'er craphics.

Your very wrong. A PC can do all these things and more. Also on a bigger screen the PC version would look a lot better than the console versions. I don't like using a controller for games played in the first person as I like to be able to turn and aim at speed and do an instant 180 when required. I play my PC version of Fallout on my 40" HDTV in 1080p with surround sound, using my wireless keyboard and mouse sat on my couch.
Oh and I can use mods if needed. I only have a few mods running, 1 which makes the PipBoy menus and dialogue menus display better for high resolutions. 1 which centres the character in the 3rd person camera. 1 which is a custom radio station with loads of fitting 40s-50s music.
That beats anything a console can do

I play games on every console and on the pc. I prefer this game on the 360 just like I did Fallout 3. PC gaming just isn't what it used to be imo. However, it really is just a matter of preference and the convenience of playing on a large screen, top quality, HDTV and sitting on a bed, couch, chair, etc.. without having to hook up my gaming computer or laptop up to the TV and then try to make it comfortable with a keyboard/mouse is just my preference. Others might prefer to go through that or just be happy with sitting in front of a computer at a desk however I do enough of that at work.

Some people will prefer 360, some will prefer PS3, and others on a computer. It doesn't really matter? And to the OP, you are about a decade and a half late off costs of buying a high-end computer. Nice try though. The only games I play on the PC are usually just for the mods if there's enough out there to expand on a game after I've played a lot of it (but there hasn't been anything amazing to be honest in a while). Oh and of course Crysis.

Just play it on what you'd prefer, who cares what others prefer? :shocking:

It is all about preference of course. I prefer to play FPS games on my PC because of the accuracy a mouse and keyboard setup offers. Of course Fallout isn't strictly an FPS and doesnt really require accuracy, I do feel more comfortable playing on my PC. I do own a 360 and I usually buy games for the PC when they are available on both due to the performance increase and shorter load times. That and the fact that PC games are £10-£15 cheaper on PC, I only paid £25 for New Vegas instead of £40 on the 360.
But like you said it is all about preference

For me, and I assume for the majority of us console players, it's simply because I just have no way of scrounging up $4,000-$10,000 for a PC that can run New Vegas on a good quality without any lag.

Discuss...

I bought mine for 400 and my 26" LCD "monitor" for 450 so I have about 800-900 wrapped up in my machine.

I played the original Fallout and Fallout 2 on the PC, as I did with Fallout 3 and now New Vegas. The question is why do you folks play it on the consoles, when the games originated on the PC?

Yes, I agree. The mouse and keyboard are very simple to use that it's very welcoming to even newbies being it's just really pointing and clicking to aim. The first time I played an FPS on a console it had a higher learning curve to master without a doubt. But over time and with being able to tweak sensitivity in most FPS games and turn aim-assist off (because it mostly screws you up), I've realized someone who's highly skilled with a controller can easily aim just as well. There's just a much higher learning curve. I play FPS on both and years ago I would've said no way you need to play them on PC, but things have changed. I find much better competition in games like COD4 and MW2 on XBox Live than I do on the PC and I that's something I personally prefe. It's really just preference and by the time the next generation of consoles come out, the line between pc gaming and console gaming will dissolve even more. Right now consoles are PC's only they are exclusive to gaming and entertainment. You can get keyboard/mouse for consoles and you can also get use a console controller on the PC. The one thing I do like though, is I find there are far fewer complaints of people crying hacker when someone is doing good on the console as well as people making up excuses that they are doing bad because they have slow PC's (which could be a legit excuse however some people are probably full of it).

That's a bit fan-boy ish. Why do people use running water when they could use wells? Preference. Who cares where it originated? I'm a fan of gaming and will play games where I want to and that's why I own every outlet for modern gaming (360, PS3, Wii, Gaming computer, etc.); so that I am not limited to where and what I play. What I can't stand is fanboyism of one platform or another.

Firstly I don't like gaming on PCs, I've stated my reasons before and I'm not going over it again. Secondly I don't have or would want to waste money on buying a gaming PC, although PCs do have advantages over Games Consoles I prefer them over PCs for gaming. I have a PS1, a PS2, a PS3, a Plat. Gamecube and a Xbox 360, why would I want another gaming platform. I did blag a Laptop for the original Fallout games but thats' as far as I wish to go. :brokencomputer: That smiley pretty much sums up why I don't game on PCs, much lol

It's more like why do you drink sand instead of water. I have a 360, PS3, and have had every console dating back to the Atari. PC gaming is just superior, in terms of handling, graphics etc... Consoles are cheaper and more user friendly. Not to mention consoles graphics and performance will always stay the same, while PC's always keep evolving getting constantly better. You can't dispute that in any shape or form. PC's are just superior performance wise. Problem is Gaming PC's is hard to get into, and lots of folks build their PC's from scratch. Overall it's easier to just play the consoles, since they're cheaper and user friendly. If you're looking to get the most out of this game, I'd reckon PC, if you looking for cost go console. You did get the preference part right though.

All these people saying "I hated upgrading my computer every six months" all I can say is why did you bother? I had a PC that was about 7 years old, I upgraded the Graphics card once in that whole time to a 7950 GT and I could play Stalker Clear Sky (in b4 people say THOSE GRAPHIX SUX COMPARED TO EVERYTHIN) that game is VERY demanding on systems and I could run that on max and get 30-40 FPS, don't ask me how it did it all I know is no upgrading was needed.

that is blatantly obviously a PC game ported over to the consoles.

I highly doubt that, majority of all games are ported to PC's
