I think it was Bethesda who started to the whole DLC thing with their free content for Morrowind. Then they had the bright idea of charging for similar sized content for Oblivion, then every other game publisher thought that was good money spinner and now DLC is considered standard. If you're EA you just cut the 'DLC' content from the main game disc and then re-enable it again for extra $£€ at release.

Before the DLC revolution you bought a game and that was it. Occasionally, if the original game was a big hit, you got an 'expansion pack' six months to a year later, which was a large extension of the game - a new campaign. I think what Beth are going for this time around is somewhere between their original small free DLC and their large expansion packs. So it takes time. Be thankful it's not being made in Valve time. I've been waiting five years to see HL2: Ep. 3.

This got me interested. According to Google, Dreamcast (1998-2001) was the first to offer what we would today call DLC. And XBox was the second platform to offer DLC. If this is correct then DLC are really a console phenomenon that has made its way to the PC.

I'm surprised. I also thought Bethesda was one of the first.

I want! I want it now! Mummy gives it to you.

I want! I want it now! Mummy gives it to you.

Etc, etc.

I want! I want it now! Ah! Looks like Bethesda don't work the same way. You are going to have to wait. Get over it!

Or......You could have piddling little DLCs every month, like Kingdoms of Amalur. cost £8 and take just a few hours to complete. I'll take the long wait for something good.

Poor choice of words. Gratefulness would only apply if Skyrim had been free and it wasn't. Grateful is for children and dogs, not economic transactions.

QFT. Bethesda is a business, not your dear, personal friend. Something that gets mixed up here a lot.

Nope, i'll be grateful for whatever they make. They don't HAVE to do anything.

They do if they want to keep eating. I refer to my first three sentences.

Judging by his impatience, I'd say he's an American. He's going to think you mean a mummy (Egyptian... wrapped in strips of cloth and all that) and not his mother.

I agree with this.
