Is Midnight Release Worth Social Suicide?

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 6:03 am

Don't do it. Nearly everyone carries little cameras with them (on their phones) now and you'll be on Youtube before you know it. lol

(possible dry humor over here too...)

Dry..or even Obscure humor is fine by me and I, for one, didn't trip at all on that first post. :P

If they were jokes why did you say it in a serious manner without indicating it was a jlke ..? Are you new to the internet? Or do you not use the internet often in fear your "friends" will judge you?

actually, my pal's a 350lb human-gorilla, literally have seen him grab folk by their ankles and bounce their heads off the floor, he loves games, especially D&D...I'm his DM.
Don't **** with the nerds! :mohawk:

You realise that 9 time Mr Olympia, Ronnie Coleman is only around 300lb, and Arnold Schwarzenegger was only 250 when he competed.

Your friend must be carrying a lot of body fat.

be true to who you are, if your worried about being spotted then cosplay and wear a mask.

the gamestop i go to has a midnight release and they are pretty fun! they hand out collectables (usually other things than what was promised) and you get to chat with all the other fans and find out what they're going to do. and it usually isnt who's their first to get the game because my store acutally hands the game out before midnight for people to be happy and have and then lets every one go at midnight. its awesome!

I didn't preorder due to job uncertainty, but now I have an offer confirmed and week before starting I'll going to get Skyrim on Friday. Yay! (Mainly yay for the job, but also the game)

So vaguely considering going to Oxford St, London for midnight release. However there will be freaky people in fancy dress, news crews, etc. None of my friends are gamers in the slightest, and playing a sword and sorcery RPG is kind of a dirty little secret for me.

Should I risk being outed on national TV? Think it could be a good laugh, but waiting til a more civilized hour is much safer.

Anyone ever go to these things? Is there a big communal spirit, or mainly just a bunch of people fighting to be first in the queue?

When you're on TV go nuts

and be like "YEAH ELDER SCROLLS WOOT"

and then

When your friends ask

tell them

"Well, i got an opportunity to be on TV, i just had to pretend to be an uber nerd! so i went to this release of some video game and they let me on TV! epic right???"

First off, he was joking around for the most part and exaggerating.
Secondly, I think it's incredibly messed up for you folk to tell someone not to be ashamed, and then proceed to shame someone as pathetic and a loser for being ashamed.

This.

And what if you found out your friend was a big CoD fan? I seem to think some of the people saying "They aren't friends if they care" Would definitely care about that.

That's just with the girls I know. I assume there's lots of girls who are, infact, not weirded out by people playing wizardy games. I just don't know them. Don't mean to offend...
There are indeed such girls. I'm a girl and I think he should go to the midnight release. Would probably go to one myself if they had one in my home town. And tv cameras wouldn't emabarass me at all.

Having attended two midnight releases in my life (Halo 3 and StarCraft II) its not that bad. A bunch of gamers standing around talking, having fun. TES themed events and such.

I don't understand why your friends would give you crap for playing a game. It makes no sense to my mind (granted, I am on the extreme other side of the spectrum, where I freely admit my obsession with TES). If they give you crap for rejecting a part of who you are, why would you care?

Go, have fun. There will be hundreds of people there. See if you can get a medieval helmet that will mask your face and refuse to answer questions if the TV reporters come up to you (though what I hear, the British media is rather brutal, so I suppose your fear of the media harassing you may be more your knowledge than mine).

Two more things to consider, though:

1. Yes, you will be able to interact with the most hardcoe TES fans around. But they are the most hardcoe TES fans. And that means they may have watched leaked materials and such. If you don't want it spoiled, I would say don't go.

2. If you don't have a copy pre-ordered, I don't know if they will sell to you. Otherwise you will be at the far end of the line.

Thirdly, ditch my mates because someone on the internet told me to? No matter what they were like (and no one's perfect), doing that really would be something to worry about.

Anyway, I'm going to go down and have a look. Probably just hang about outside for a bit and take in the atmosphere, then come back in the morning to actually buy it. It's too cold to be out all night dressed as Conan.

I'll be taking pictures of freaks in fancy dress and posting them all over internet, so watch yourselves, heh, heh.

Step 1: ditch current friends Invite current friends.

Step 2: go to midnight launch

Step 3: make new, cooler friends at midnight launch

Edit: just read other posts

I could ask to be interviewed in front of a bright light with voice distorted. That would be pretty funny. Of course, then I'd be so chuffed I'd have to tell everyone that was me, which kind of defeats the whole point..
"Hey guys did you see me on TV last night giving that awesome interview on Skyrim!!!!" - You
"Nahh only person that was interviewed was some guys shadow and from some reason it sounded like it had a cold or something" - Friend
"NOOOOOOOO!!!!!" - You

I don't know about the UK, but I'm pretty sure that's not true in the US. I doubt the pedophiles caught on "To Catch a Predator" consented to being shown on TV.
Never know they might like their 5 mins of fame. I don't think criminals get a choice or not
But like the quote above this says he could have his face blacked out or something, but then they just wouldn't use the clip :P
