A setting as deep as Mundus needs some rules, and most of them come from the real world. I never said that magic is an "actual science", just that, within the setting, that's exactly what it is.
In any case, animal classes (mammals, reptiles, amphibians, etc.) are the same in Mundus, so the Argonians have to be one of them, even if they don't fit all of the characteristics that their class has in the real world. To me, it makes more sense that they would be amphibians than reptiles, since they have scales and gills. Real-world amphibians are cold-blooded, but that doesn't mean Argonians have to be.
