Soooooo...

I'd rather play a Thief, a Deus Ex or a Dishonored, really. The problem with TES is that it's shallow. You give depth up for breadth. And that's okay; it's just not my kind of game.

Dishonored? Dishonored is my kind of game.

(A decade or two from now, there won't be any difference between the two. Imagine!)
Dishonored will most likely have less depth than TES. TES is incredibly complex, its the way its executed that I dont agree with. Still great games though, but another thing that puts me off skyrim is that i have done it all before, morrowind, oblivion and skyrim are way too similar I swore I have stolen something for clasvicus vile for him to give me his mask of +10 charisma twice before :) But the biggest reason I dislike Skyrim is dumbing down and copy and paste.

Complexity and depth are not the same thing.

They may have different definitions but they can both be used in the same way.

I'd say they're probably equally complex, but TES is a lot more granular. In Dishonored, you can sneak, fight, use magic, etc. In TES, you can also do all those things, but they're broken down into different degrees of progress, which gives you more options for customization. On the flipside, no one system in TES is usually incredibly deep, whereas in Dishonored, equal consideration and time appears to have been given to everything (assuming they're following the Deus Ex model). Everything feels slightly compromised in Skyrim, but I can forgive it because it offers so much. Depth vs Breadth is a good way to put it. Well said.

Also, fast travel was present in the Arena and Daggerfall games as well. I think the importance of that is vastly overstated by Morrowind purists. It's literally the only major TES game that didn't have it.

All that said, I also personally prefer the LGS games. But I feel like TES has undeservedly become a punching bag based on hugely exaggerated flaws.

There's nothing wrong with comparing Dishonored to the Elderscrolls, but it's out of place in a thread asking when we'd get more information on the former. Since the original question has been answered with the recent release of game footage, and the rest of the discussion is off topic, I'm just going to lock this.

However if someone wants to start a fresh thread to discuss matters of depth or breadth you're welcome to do so.
