PC Special Features

Marketing only started last week.

Well, that's not quite true. It started 8 months ago. I thought the devs would be a bit more involved in the forums, honestly... A few of them were even lurking about every now and then. I'd hoped they'd interact a bit more. Of course, they're probably heading toward crunch time if they aren't there already now, so it' understandable. But :sadvaultboy: They seem like really cool people, and it would have been nice to pick their brains, is all...

If we're being pedantic then, yeah, the game was announced and there were a couple screenshots last year, but that wasn't really a marketing push. It was followed by almost complete silence that is only now starting to be broken. Point is, it's way too soon to start crying "console port" or to really have an in-depth complaints like that.

I read 21 replies, but not 1 from a Developer/admin/mod or someone who is not a gaming member. As always we are left in the dark and wil have to do with a simple xbxox360 clone.
Is it so hard to tell us, the game journalist or put our a press statement about the pc version when a game is being developed?

Will it have FOV? Will it have the latest PC directX11 options, will have it gamepad support?

fov - I guess so because if not you could not see a thing
dx11 - every game and its mom can have a directx11 renderer with certain features enabled (what are options in directx11 ?)

...but those do not make any difference atm since you can achieve all effects on other renderers
most of the so-called dx11 exclusive features existed for years in e.g. GL
dx11 is just a buzzword to put on the box, the whole directx api is a crutch for pc gaming, enforced by microsoft.

I'd rather ask if the artistic direction and vision has been done justice in a sufficient engine that can handle all demands the designers had or what they had to ultimately cut to
gain better performance or accomodate to the low memory of consoles. Is the engine known ? Because if it is one of the usual mass-product engines like UT you can practically change almost anything via inis
or you just wait for the obligatory WSGF patch if the devs fail in that department.

All first person games on PC should come with a FOV slider these days, motion sickness due to low FOV can be a big problem for many people. It's not a problem on console because you're much further away from the screen.

On PC some people can't even play Modern Warfare 3 for example, because sitting close to a 16:9/16:10 monitor playing a FPS at a standard console FOV of 65 can make them sick after 15 minutes.

Totalbiscuit explains FOV and the negative effects it can have on people very clearly in his video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPDq_qvsKUA (the negative effects bit starts at 3:35)

An FOV slider that goes up to 90 should not be hard to implement at all and it'll make a lot of people happy. I was disappointed that Skyrim didn't have a FOV changing option, but at least it was possible to tweak it through the ingame console and ini files.

Bethesda Game Studios' or Bethesda Softworks' titles?

:cryvaultboy:

I really want to buy this game, but I won't if it's Steam-locked. If all it requires is a Steam activation, that's fine. But if I'm constantly forced to patch, update, and affirm that, yes, I am legally playing this game, forget it. I refuse to be treated like an idiot and a criminal.

I'll probably just play a friend's copy, then.
automatic updates/patches can be disabled by user preference via right clicking the game in your games library clicking properties and going into updates and selecting the "do not automaticly update this game" from the drop-down menu.

Hey a quick question, why do you guys hate the steam-activitated-auto update-game? For me, the reason it annoys me (but not hate) is because of the tons of downloads. In NZ here, if you're on USB stick modem and some $20 for 1gb of data, then you'd want to go through hell just to be frugal with your data blocks and not to download ANY updates unless they're in single digit mbs.

Don't you guys have unlimited data download for some cheap $ per month or something??

I'm hoping for Mod tools, maybe better graphics and dx11 support.
But really as long as the UI is nice and the game isn't very clunky I'm fine.

I'm also worried about this. There's been a disturbing trend lately of leaving out an FOV slider from many games, and restricting it to a nauseating view that feels claustrophobic.

I just had to fix the widescreen fixer program for my wife's copy of Kingdoms of Amalur, which is why I'm bringing this back up. It's a game with great combat, marred by a terrible close in camera that caused me headaches and often has you fighting enemies that you can't see. Another great game marred by this is the Witcher 2. The narrow FOV here isn't as bad as KoA, but it still causes me a bit of a problem.

I don't know exactly why FOV sliders have gone by the wayside in recent years. Perhaps it is the plethora of lazy console ports, you might be able to say this for Skyrim but The Witcher 2 is anything but that so that can't be the entirety of it. It just seems to have dropped off of developer's radars. Those of us who get queasy from a 65 degree FOV tend not to forget though. :-)

Hopefully the devs at Arkane haven't forgotten about this essential bit of PC gaming.

This is the biggest reason I'm against Steam. Not everyone has unlimited bandwidth. (I'm able to get it, but there's only one company that provides the country's bandwidth where I live, and they are like all of the worst of American tele-coms companies rolled into one; I'm not going near them; so I have to use expensive cellular-provider bandwidth.)

The other reason is that I just don't want something doing things to my computer at its arbitrary whim. I don't put up with that crap IRL: I'm certainly not going to put up with it for a game.

Oh, and no, you can't turn off automatic updates. Steam forces updates. See the DRM/Steam thread in Community Discussion for more on that distasteful practice.

This game is most likely being created for PC and imported to consoles

FOV slider please. That's all I want for my PC version. Other than that, I really don't care for modding tools and would apreciate it if they put more attention to the gameplay. Story can take a back seat on this one, really.

I expect the full gamut of graphical options including an FOV slider and MULTIPLE LEVELS OF ANTI-ALIASING.

Fallout 3 didn't have an FOV slider. It svcked. I really don't want to have to mess with the .ini files in Dishonered due to pure laziness.

you want fov slider? go play mincraft...
Either you are the troll of these forums or you're extremely ignorant. There is the posibility that you are a console gamer and don't understand the value of a FoV slider. Nevertheless, I don't really care what your reasoning was for that comment. Everyone knows that a FoV slider is manditory for a first person game on PC. In fact, rich options in general will be greatly apreciated.

I think they were kidding. At least that's the impression I got, since minecraft has such a ridiculous fov slider.
