Female option?

Leslee, I definitely understand where you're coming from, but the decision by Arkane's creative team was based around Corvo being a male character. The primary customization in Dishonored is the spiritual powers you can select.

Thank you for your response, Gstaff. I understand that Arkane choose to make a game that revolves around the story of a central character, rather than a free-form RPG like Skyrim. My complaint is that they choose to make that character male.

I'm old. I've been playing video games a long time. Everything from Doom, to Half-Life, to Deus Ex has required that I inhabit the role of a MALE character and participate in HIS story. It's 2012. There's NO REASON why the Corvo character could not have been female. Arkane's creative team chose to make yet another story about a man, and this choice makes me sad.

Your entitled to your sadness Leslee.

I personally wish the media would stop portraying bald men in a negative light... (at least I have Hitman and Kratos in my corner)

But sadly, we inhabit a society that is full of prejudice.

Several posts have been removed from this thread. Let's please keep this discussion civil and constructive, sixist comments (directed in either direction) aren't going to help anyone.

I could not possibly object any more to the ridiculous notion that anything I posted was even remotely sixist, derogatory, or even the slightest bit offensive. It stands the test of all logic that if there is a small percentage of women working in the gaming industry, there will be a small percentage of games with female main characters and/or targeted towards women. You know what happens when an industry doesn't offer something you want? You go to work in that industry and make it happen yourself. That's true of literally every product and service in every industry all over the world, for both men and women.

Arkane is not obligated to offer you a game with a female main character. You say that there's no reason that Corvo couldn't have been female, except that you haven't played the game and you only know the same slightest tiny bit about the story that everybody else knows, so you aren't in any way qualified to say whether or not Corvo could have been female, because for all we know, the entirety of the story may require a male character for some reason. It's their creative vision, and while it's still a product that they're selling, nobody said they're selling it specifically to you. If the idea of playing yet another game that clearly holds you at gunpoint and forces you to play as a male character is that horrifying for you, don't play the game. You're not going to change anything at this point in development, and I would think that complaining about the lack of a female character would be better off waiting until the game is actually out and you know what it's actually like.

While your post was unnecessarily dismissive, as is this reply, it was not removed from being inappropriate. Rather the entire conversation was snipped in the hopes of getting this thread to cool off, as it was getting volatile. On that note, while you have presented a constructive rebuttal it is extremely brusque, and at the moment I think it would be best if we try and keep this as civil as possible. There are many people with passionate opinions concerning this topic, on both sides of the matter, so there's no reason to make this more tense than it already is.

You play Corvo in the game... he's male 100% of the time.
Except when you take control of female characters right? ;)
