I'm surprised to see so many people having so many problems. I guess all the people without problems are busy playing and not browsing the forums. I'm actually happy to report that I have had nothing but absolutely flawless game play so far (perfect framerate, no stuttering @ 1920 x 1080). Just figured I'd let people know it's not all bad. On a side note, I did update to the beta drivers for the GPU when BF3 Beta was released.

Honestly, absolutely none whatsoever.

Edit: I'll see if I can get up a recording on youtube tonight. I'm not trying to wave anything in anybody's face, I just wanted to show that it's running great for some people.

Why not try pulling up the console and making changes there?

id always provides a console for people to mess with.

What a load of BS.
No one wants product activation, forced updates, or in-game advertisemant. No one wants to MOD on a monopoly gun-to-the-head platform (Steamworks) where people can have their MOD project pulled at any time for any reason.
Counter-Strike and TFC were originally FREE MOD's for Half-Life... then greedy Valve came along, bought out the rights for them and started charging people for them.

You call that knowing what gamers want??? Come on man.
You obviously haven't been gaming since the good old days where gaming was "for gamers by gamers" and studios owned and ran by computer enthusiasts... or maybe you dont give two * about your freedom. Either way, Valve are scum bags that have destroyed gaming on PC.
The most tragic part is how so many people happily swallow their BS.

Conspiracy Theorist much? Valve didnt just buy the rights to Counterstrike and TF, they hired a bunch of the devs to continue working on them. So basically you think valve is bad because they paid for a couple of mods that have stood the test of time, and dumped money into them to make them 2 of the best mods/shooters in the world? *political discussion removed as not allowed*

Just an fyi, with the drivers I have, from Nvidia:

"The 285.38 beta drivers are also the ones to get if you’re planning to play id Software’s Rage next month..."

This is the driver I'm running and like I said, it's running flawlessly.

I have EVGA cards so I like to use their SLI enhancement patches. I will try out my current 280.26 drivers first and see how it is before using the beta drivers. I'll post here tomorrow how things are running.

The graphics options (actually ALL options) are in the console.

Hit ~ and go to town.

Every ID game has been this way since quake(1).

No nanny menu's to hold the noob's hands.
(sorry, but that's just how it is with ID games. If you want to tweak, learn the commands.)

^you haven't played any id game, have you?

Almost all since the keen series.

Not sure what you're really asking, though.
Maybe you're implying the console isn't a normal feature?

You can for example set video options :
(top of my head, would have to look up command list for spelling)
r_mode -1; g_fov 110; r_customWidth 1920; r_customHeight 1080; r_aspectRatio 1.777; vid_restart

r_displayrefresh 120 for the 120hz monitor folks, albeit it only works for games older than doom3 (before the 60hz cap).
*note you could set your ticks, etc to be higher too.

How else would you do zoom with lowered sensitivity, with a weapon hide?
(Again, this is from memory, sorry if it's misspelled)
bind c "g_fov 90; sensitivity 3, cg_showgun 0"
bind v "g_fov 110; sensitivity 4, cg_showgun 0"
bind x "cg_showgun 1"

Or even colorful names:
name "^4blueSomething^2greenSomething"

because you'd know that id's games had settings ever since the dawn of dedicated 3d graphics accelerators (3dfx)

Ps, I love the commander :)

Wow. I'm so glad I didn't pre-order it. Of course forcing Steam on someone is a strike against it alone right there. If I do get the game, it won't be the PC version. I've been mostly disappointed with Bethesda titles, minus Fallout 3. But Hunted The Demon's Forge is what really made me cautious, because I pre-ordered and played it through to the end and the game was such a let down. I already returned it to GameStop. So I made certain to wait for this one and see what happens. I know to stay away from the PC version at least.

I know that the basics have been in there. Render resolution, texture resolution, top 3 main special effects, mouse sensitivity, etc ... which is what, 2% of the Cvars?
98% of all the settings were in the console.
So now it's 1% and 99%, instead of 2% and 98%. (not exactly, but merely illustrating)

Seems like a lot to do about nothing.
Especially with topics such as "no graphics tweaking on PC?!?!"
When you can change practically everything - that makes the thread subject a flat wrong.

Here's a link I just found to a steam thread about how to customize rage. It's a new thread, so not that much as of yet.
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2154371

Commander keen was one of the 4 or so first games I played.
It seemed so epic at the time, but now when I look back, it's so much shorter than I remember.
I think I just svcked so bad at it that it took ages.

P.S.
To be fair, when the original 3dfx stuff came out (for quake 1), you had to drop in a modified DLL to make it work, and run a separate exe.
That's a bit more than simply choosing "3d acceleration=on" it in a menu option (or even a console variable).

Oh man oh man. What do I read. I pre-ordered the game for PC (the first time I ever did that) a couple of days ago and will get it later (EU citizen), but now I wonder if I should not just cancel the whole deal... might aswell give id a chance and still keep the pre-order, not sure yet. Rest assured, if RAGE wont deliver, I will be more careful with Prey2 and Skyrim. Do companies not know that their products speak for themselves? If RAGE is that bad and we trap into that, we will be more careful later.

No changing of FOV!!? Man, the narrow console fov always gives me headache. I demand options! Dare to not patch it!

Aside the technical issues, which I hope will be solved/patched in the near future, is the game worth it? Or is it another console port by any means? I barely played games in the past 7 years, mostly stick to old (10 years old) games. I am a passionate hater of console gameplay and honestly the RAGE gameplay videos on youtube didn't impress me, but I still decided (against all my instincts and intuition) to give the game a chance. Was that a mistake?

What is there a conspiracy about? If you think what I said is a conspiracy theory then you should some research as clearly have no idea what your talking about.
Either that, or learn what "conspiracy theory" means.

What a horrible disappointment.
I've half a mind to send my CD in the post to ID Tech and DEMAND my money back.
This is a worse port than GTA IV, I am not exaggerating one single bit.

And this is from the people that made f*cking DOOM. What a disgrace.
I understand that these guys need to make money but they are kicking dust and spitting on to the platform that made them what they are today.

I'm not just talking aboubt no graphics tweaking, locking up, the minecraft textures and the fact that there's no f*cking vsync.
Look at this video too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7Ch6TX-Cbs&hd=1

This is just... really, really sad.

Well, my comp is top notch, and I have the latest driver for my Nvidia GeForce GTX 570, and the game still looks bad:

However, I am slightly getting used to it, and the game is pretty fun. But it'd be more fun if they fixed this SOON-ish.
