Idk, I love MW3 and can't wait for Black Ops 2, so.... That's all I really need.

Stop playing on consoles. Magic fix.
How does playing on PC make multiplayer any better? I actually find public lobbies on the PC to be even worse than console. The amount of hackers and mods is ridiculous (assuming we are talking about competitive multiplayer, sandbox games can be a blast).

There isn't much you can do with competitive multiplayer, what seems to be missing is a real team based multiplayer game, and the last person (Brink) who tried that failed, so not many companies are willing to branch out when they already have a formula that works.

I don't really play much multiplayer anymore though, besides the occasional GTA IV screw-around session. Can't wait for V.

Blame Bungie. The halo franchise was one of the few good shooter franchises left, and Bungie completely blew it. The player base turned from Halo and got hooked on CoD.
Halo: Reach seems quite good to me. At first I wasn't interested in it at all, but when my brother picked it up this last Christmas for me I've found that it is actually quite fun to play online.

Reach got Title Updated in Novmber or so. Fixed a lot of the issues. I wouldn't have even known if someone didn't make a remark on a forum I browse about Zero Bloom No Sprint MLG. Most people don't. It really helped the game out but it was sort of too little too late. Well, not too little, just too late.

Here's some of my favorite console multiplayer games.

Battlefield 3
Halo: Reach
WH40K: Space Marine
Left 4 Dead
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (Haven't tried Revelation's multiplayer yet)

Might want to look into some of those.

I gotta say that I prefer playing split screen on Gears, CoD or Halo and online on RTS games with my brother and a few friends then just joining random games.

Games still have split screen? I had so much fun with split screen in the Timesplitters games back on the PS2, but modern shooters are too realistic and serious... it's kinda boring.

There are plenty of good multiplayer games out there. Pretty much any COD from 4 and on still has a livley enough community. The Battlefield series is a another great option if your prefer a more tactical game. Then there is the great CO-OP in Left 4 Dead.Keeping with the zombie theme Dead Isalnd also has excellent co-op that will svck plenty of hours out of the day.The latest Assassin's Creed isn't too shabby either. Then there is certianly the Gears of War, Halo, and Killzone series that attract a large audience.Outside of that plenty of games feature some sort of online multiplayer these days, weather it be competivtive or co-op and you'll be able to find a plethora of games to enjoy.

Petition Crytek to hurry up with Timesplitters 4.
Is the man in your avatar pic who i think it is....im not sure. And timesplitters 4? would be awesome.
about the multiplayer market. what are you OP yappin on about? its the singleplayer market that has gone stale. multiplayer has been evolving generally well. and people need to realise that cod gets many features added each installment, but same engine though(modified multiple times) its halo gears and battlefield that stay near enough the same each game. cod actually has the most depth out of any multiplayer shooter. there is plenty to discover between the lines.

It's actually true though. I may not have completely enjoyed any COD since COD4, but the depth is apparent in the unlock system. Why else do you think people still play it?

THIS!

I really miss the good old days when most games where single-player only.

I loved Split-Screen and Hotseat. So many good memories.

How does playing on PC make multiplayer any better?

RTS, DotA-likes, sandbox games (as you said), Tribes, action RPG (you know, with Diablo III coming out soon and all...). Virtually none of that is found on consoles, and none of it is "samesy" or anything like CoD. If someone likes FPS games but is bored of generic military shooters, I can't think of anything better than Tribes for someone who's willing to learn a challenging, competitive game.

If your friend has a PS3 tell him to look up DUST 514, the game that links a pc MMORPG spaceship game with a console fps. It should be pretty unique and game changing.

It would be, if it wasn't cancelled.
