Why does the multiplayer market svck such donkey right now?

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 8:21 pm

Seriously... I feel like something needs to be done to revolutionize the multiplayer game market again, every single multiplayer game that comes out these days on consoles are so samesy its ridiculous.

I bring this up because my friend wants to get a console to play online with me, and he's asking which multiplayer games are really good these days on consoles and I just can't answer that. He has a computer but he's not really into RPGs or RTSs, so that cancels out quite a few of my popular choices on the comp. Oh and he also doesn't really like fighters, which cancels out more of my choices.

Other than that, what is there? Modern Warfare 3, or was it 4, or 5? Does it even matter? They are all the same. Seems like thats the typical problem of the multiplayer market these days.

Because DLC map packing and weapons pack cashcowing is all the trend. Slap in some PvP, throw in a 2-3 dollar map pack DLC maybe a new weapon/armor pack, and boom, svcker market of 13-14 year old kids spending their parents money on terrible DLC.

Easy money.

Im with you 100% my friend, I really just don't know what to recommend to him outside of RPGs and RTSs on the comp, but I play a crapload of em. Hence why I'm on these forums. TES ftw by the way, one of the best gaming experiences to date imo.

Yeah, you're right, game developers only make good multiplayer for PC, just to spite console users.

Blame Bungie. The halo franchise was one of the few good shooter franchises left, and Bungie completely blew it. The player base turned from Halo and got hooked on CoD.

It's because a single company has a monopoly, and it's a successful cash cow of unimaginable proportions. It'll crash one of these days, and it will be sooo funny to see them try and pick up the shattered remains of their company. Oh they'll live the crash, but not before some damage gets done and they readapt to actually making video games instead of copy pasting them.

Ya, I feel the same way. Halo was the last FPS I played heavily online (1-3 at least, but mostly 1 and 2), since then all they have been is the same copy/paste formula.

Maybe we can hope that a indie-game group eventually produces something good. I don't expect anything awesome multiplayer-wise to be released by some big company anytime soon.

I'm seeing them in a week and a bit, their new set looks amazing.

To be honest, most multiplayer games are identical on PC and console, TF2 gets more patches but most of them are hats so who cares.

Got your Dark souls port yet ?

Its becuase CoD is popular, and everything wants the CoD market, so they all try and mimic CoD.

*rolls eyes*

I don't personally believe that Multiplayer svcks "donkey." I don't know if you've played Battlefield 3, but I recommend it. The destruction element really makes it fun. Engineer? Don't have a clear path to an objective? Make your own!

Also:

Left 4 Dead (2)
Borderlands, if you have friends that also play.
The new Batman multiplayer game looks fun as hell. Really looking into this.
Halo: Reach
I'm personally not into it, but a lot of people enjoy the Multiplayer of Red Dead Redemption.

I still think Gears of War, Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption are some of the best online console experiences that still have amazing singleplayers. Horde mode in Gears and Free Mode in GTA are my two favourite multiplayer modes ever and they are without a doubt the ones I have had the most fun in.

Boom goes the dynamite. Allthough im more of a rifle person.

I wasnt fussy on RDRs MP, damn possies could be right pricks. Then the casual shooters, with borderline auto aim. And the world was kinda dull.

Allthough the zombie survival mode was awesome. Aside from the spitters, I swear those things 1 hit killed you eventually.

See, I actually really enjoyed Brink, but I ended up not playing it anyway do to the fact I COULD NEVER CONNECT TO A GAME.

Brink was a great game killed by terrible netcode.

TF2 is fun. Nevermind the people who moan about the hats or weapons in the store; they also drop randomly or can be crafted. Minecraft also has some fun multiplayer.
