The kindest thing you have done this year?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 2:10 am

I made a very smooth move. I saw an old friend I hadn't seen in a long time and she appeared to have gained some weight. I took the gamble and congratulated her on her pregnancy, I was correct. That's always a risky one.

Is that kind? Without a moral compass it's difficult to gauge the difference between a kind act and an act that is to my benefit.

I helped an old man find a bus station so he could get home. He was walking really slowly; and I was already late for school. I had headphones in and could have easily pretended not to hear him. I hope he got home alright in the end...

I didn't yell at my ex when she finally got back in touch with my son and me a few months ago, after a year of silence.

A personal triumph of sorts :)

Your name and avatar don't match the empathy in your post.

I found an iPhone in a club and even in my drunken state managed to somehow return it. I think I went on his facebook and found his name, but I could be mistaken I was stupidly drunk, as usual. He thanked me the next day when he recognised me in the street. I had no idea who he was when he called me out.

I've done other things too, in fact, I'd just thought of one, but upon typing the above example out, have forgotten exactly what it is...

Should've pawned it and spent the money on more alcohol.

I held the door open for people coming and going from work.

Most recently I carried one of the girls home from a drunken night out in the town. I was only planning to carry her until we got to a taxi rank, but they were all mobbed with few taxis appearing so we I began walking towards her house. Must have walked at least a mile and a half with her on my back and front, passing about 15 taxis all with their light off before I managed to grab on for her. The walk was good because she only need to chip in a few pound and didn't walk since leaving the club and I got a workout I've not had in years.

Oh, I'm going to hitchhike to Croatia for charity this Easter, not sure if it counts as kindness, because I just want to travel across Europe but it is raising £360 for charity at the same time.
