Elder Scrolls Online? Your thoughts

I'm kinda torn. If they do it right (whatever right will be for an MMO TES game), then I'm all in, take my money. But if it's wrong (again, whatever wrong will be for an MMO TES game), then I hope they take a step back, learn, and revamp it.

Based on what I've read, TESO sounds like a WoW clone... If this is the case I won't be playing it.

The only way I'd play a TES MMO if it was built on traditional TES mechanics.

Precisely my tought as well.

This genre needs something new. I've played WoW to death and im quite fed up with it. Though I do like the PvP direction side this game is taking, and the fact that there are 3 factions, that alone there is not enough to make me, as a TES fan, to play it.

(Repost from another thread)

They will end up dragging the TES name though the MMO mud for nothing. As far as I can tell, it retains absolutely nothing from the single player games, neither first person realtime combat nor skill use experience.

A random FPS using caps as currency and nukacola as health repencshments would more closely resemble Fallout than this travesty resembles TES.

I'm NOT against online or multiplayer TES. I'm against the lost opportunity in the decision to create TESO as a generic MMORPG clone. The lost opportunity to shake up the MMO world with TES's unique game mechanics and gameplay.

Unless the trailer tomorrow convinces me otherwise, this is definitely not a purchase for me.

My only interest in this game is in the additional lore, and I'm hoping Zenimax does justice to the TES franchise in some way story-wise (though with this whole "time-traveling and changing the events of the past" thing, I'm not getting my hopes up).

Oops

Well this about sums up my feelings:

Make a multiplayer TES, not a TES-favored MMORPG.

So when I heard the rumor that The Elder Scrolls was going to get an MMO, I started getting exited. When this rumor was confirmed, I was positively ecstatic. When I saw the screenshots and their colorful graphics, I started getting worried. When I read that it was going to be in third person, my heart dropped. When I read that it was going to be completely class based, I died a little inside.

I love the Elder Scrolls, and I like online games, but I do not like World of Warcraft. And so I am not liking the looks of Elder Scrolls Online. They said in the article that they need to make sure that it feels familiar to MMO veterans. I see this as them admitting that they're too scared to do something totally new. They hope that if it's similar enough to WoW, then WoW people will like it, and if WoW people like it, then it will be more likely to succeed.

I had high hopes for this game, but they faded pretty quickly. :(

EDIT: Found that quote I was talking about. "It needs to be comfortable for people who are coming in from a typical massively multiplayer game that has the same control mechanisms..."
What the hell guys. Screw those other people. If they're 'uncomfortable', then they can either get used to it or leave. Games shouldn't cater to the comforts of other game's fanbases.

I'd like to add that I think the people like me without good computers (I play Skyrim on XBox for this reason) will be neglected and left out of the experience. Though it is understandable its very disheartening since I cannot afford a decent PC at this time. I own every other TES game for PC other than Skyrim, I also own the xbox versions of Oblivion and Morrowind as well (I'm A Bethesda Fanatic) but due to lack of funds I cannot upgrade to a new computer to get Skyrim and TESO though.

The game will be drastically different from the norm from what I read on another site. It will adopt a more MMO feel sticking to third person with skills on hotkeys and adopt a more MMO friendly skill tree and most likely class system so you CANNOT be a jack of all trades like you can in the single player TES games. While I understand these changes I don't think it will be the same feel we are all accustomed to playing the TES series. It will be more in line with mainstream MMOs like WoW, EQ and the like with the way battles operate. You will however be able to kill anyone at any time (as long as they aren't essential) and join all the guilds and what have you.

I really think they could have done an action oriented battle system there's a few MMOS that have done it on a small scale. (ie. Vindictus) One that did it on a slightly larger scale (Dungeons and Dragons Online), and there's supposed to be a new one out there soon (Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning's MMO) well its not 100% confirmed that it will turn into an MMO but from what I've heard was that it's supposed to set up lore and backstory for an MMO that is supposed to come out based on the world that was created for the game. (which is as big as some MMOs game world)

But I think Zeni Online wimped out by making a generic MMO rather than trying a new formula which could be more successful than just another EQ clone (though the formula is tried and true. EX: World of Warcraft [YES WOW IS AN EQ CLONE! EQ WAS FIRST!], Runes Of Magic, City of Heroes, et cetera.)

What the hell guys. Screw those other people. If they're 'uncomfortable', then they can either get used to it or leave. Games shouldn't cater to the comforts of other game's fanbases.

I completely agree ZMO really dropped the ball on this one ... they could have made something innovative but they seem to have made just another EQ/WoW clone rather than take the steps to make this a completely unique MMO experience. Like I stated before the action MMOs are out there and are quite successful for what they are. It seems that ZMO didn't want to take the time and do a little research ... though the game has been in dev since '07 from what I understand, which is before a few of the action oriented mmos came out but I'm pretty sure DDO was there they could have taken some cues from that game and at least tried a model like that ...
