Yeah, this is how the industry has trended, dice roll RPGs are a game of the past. Developers are going to make games for the majority...business 101. You can either more on too or live in the past and complain the rest of your life. I don't like the trend either but thats the way it is...I'll still enjoy the game immensly for what it is.
I just think they could be better designed.
And no, its ain t about dices, its about how to implement features that represent the dices cause dices are still there.
For example the main complain in Morrowind was "i can see the blade pass through my opponent and nothing happens"....tech limitation.
Today if no damage is done the oponent would just block, arrow would bounce off armor and the like.
But for example if you fail at climbing, assuming climbing would be implemented, it s still would be a dice roll to know if you suceed or not at climbing.
Same with pickpocketing and lockpicking. They inserted minigames... i find this awfull just to fit the 5 year old kid than can t stand failure, but as long they don t shaft that kind of crap on everybody and skills remain a viable way (auto try based on skill and lock dificulty) im OK.
The fact is.. developers wen t all eyecandy and no design, that is the sad part.
EX: Since the beginning i sayd perks like diablo was a poor option....and now many are finding perk bad designed and complaining, but this was so obvious...it shouldn t be any news.
Another thing that will come out with time is the lack of flexibility of skyrim system, one you roll on you ll be put slowly on rail by the radiant engine... This way ots easyer for the developpers than to have players using imagination and combining skills in some unexpected way ruining its own experience and broadcasting it.
TBH i don t know why people cares about that, its single player, if a single player gamer wan t to act like a jerk where s the problem ?
Its the same as complaining that there s spoiler in a spoiler section...
