So in the end they made it to $3,335,265! That's about $100,000 more than before the livestream started. :hehe:

That's really an awful response http://youtu.be/F6FC_uGYwbw got when he wanted to make a new Rainbow Six/Ghost Recon type of game, a hardcoe tactical shooter.

I love Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon, I was actually replaying GRAW so I am in.
It's unfortunate that this kickstarter isn't doing particulary well. Not that surprising though, very few heard of the game developer Christian Allen before, so it's much harder to hype it up.

Also, that picture and text he chose to use in the video that's the first thing you see screams amateur.

Not saying he is. But to people who don't know him the kickstarted page comes of as really shoddy I think. DoubleFines looked pretty proffesional with their company logo and all. Also Shafer's a really good salesman, Allen is not.

Yeah, sorry, I just don't see shooters getting much out of a kickstarter. There are more than enough of these kinds of games making the rounds -- there's absolutely no reason for people to throw their money at a promise when they can experience an actual product within a few clicks on Steam.

A tactical shooter is a very different form of FPS. Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon have all changed into something else, probably Brothers in Arms too. I still play GRAW(2006-7) and I want to see new games. (I found this gem, SW: Republic Commando, a bit late but it quenched my thirst for a while.)

On the other hand, you are probably right on your other point. I don't think they can get the money needed anyways. I think Tribes Ascend is a better example for proving the need for "a bit more complex and different" games. Adventure games aren't the only ones that got MIA.

I would literally throw my money at a Freespace kickstarter :P
Or a decent singleplayer Elite-like, for that matter.

I don't understand why would someone donate to a developer to make a game instead of investing?
No offence to anyone.

In a sense we have invested. We invest our money in the game development and our returns are a copy of the game, and various other bits and pieces for those who gave more. It may not be as profitable as playing the stock market (or maybe it is, do I look like a broker?), but I'm sure everybody who gave money thinks that it's worth it.

You could also think of it as a very early pre-order.

Because there are minimum limits for investment, and a lot of gamers can't afford even the minimum limit.

Which probably costs less than what the game will be sold for when it's done, too.
