It simply amazes me how blind these developers can be! The one chance to make a MMO with is not TYPICAL AND CLONED and make an MMO which has the combat system that Elder Scrolls is known for...jesus age christ you'd think Bethesda would have the smarts.

I firmly believe they would make more sales if they cater to the people that play Elder Scrolls and not the bleeding MMO market in general.

1. Bethesda has nothing to do with this.

2. Elder scrolls combat is terrible and boring. You should be thanking the gods that they're not bringing that in.

So... it's actually happening. Well, I'm going to give it chance, and will wait for more details, gameplay videos etc before I comment on whether or not it's going to be a good game. However I feel the timing is unfortunate. Guild Wars 2 is on the horizon, a behemoth of a game with a beautiful art style, no subscription fee and a fresh combat/hotbar system. TES Online has got its work cut out if it's going to compete well.

I wouldn't rule out first person just yet.

There are quite a few games where you can switch between camera perspectives. You can even play WoW in first person mode.

Everquest had First person MMO in 1999.

EQ is the OG 3D MMO

Why make an elder scrolls MMO that has none of the features that make elder scrolls games good?

No choice to go around killing random NPC's, no first person mode, generic MMO combat, thousands of other characters just as powerful as you running around, no werewolves or vampires as characters...

why, as a fan of elder scrolls games, would I have any desire to purchase this game? If I want to play generic wow clone number 10000000001 then I'd just go play wow- not a clone of it set in the elder scrolls universe.

If there isn't even an option for first person I may not buy it.. I still have my hopes that gw2 will add it. These mmo developers need to stop taking away an option for 1st person even if the majority of people play in 3rd because it's smarter in an MMO to do so for combat and PVP, doesn't mean there's not a time and place for 1st person, and I use it plenty and know others that do as well for exploring and RPing and interacting with the world.

First we don't even know for sure that it won't have first person view, and its easy to assume it will since we have had first person view in mmorpgs since 1999.

Second TES games have been 3rd person and 1st person games for well over 15 years now, ( Daggerfall was the last "first person view" only TES game) TES has always been 3rd person so its not strange to see an MMORPG TES gameto feature 3rd person just like the single player games do.

I can understand a personal preference for first person or third person camera, but what's wrong with hotkeys?

Hotkeys aren't the issue, it is the queuing that hotkeys lead to. There are two MMOs with real-time TES-style combat called Mortal Online and Darkfall, they both have hotbars but I think what people are implying is that the combat isn't real-time direct-combat, it's puppetry, or as Total-Biscuit says, it's "like driving a tank" rather than actually being the character.

The main defining aspects of TES and if they will be presented in MMO form:

Classic
- Sandbox (Nope) -TES is more like an open ended game instead of a sandbox.
- First-person (Nope) -FPS combat is hard to implement well in an MMO but I wouldnt be surprised if there isnt an option for it like most other MMOs give you.
- Real time combat (Nope) - Real time combat is another thing that sounds cool but in the end doesnt work well in an MMO setting due to lag issues.
- Huge streaming world you can go anywhere you see (Nope) - From what I have heard so far it sounds like TESO will be pretty open.. Not sure where you got this assumption.
- Freedom to develop your character using any skills available in the game (Nope) - Because character balance matters in an MMO unlike a single player game.
- Lore (Yep)
- Highly interactive environment (Nope) - The recently posted interview suggests otherwise.
- Player decisions alter the game world (Nope) - The GI article listed that the world can change for you based on what you do and decisions you make but others will experience something else based on their decisions.
- Player centered story (Nope) - Yes. It sounds like there will be a story centered around your character from what has been said so far.

Recent
- Radiant AI (Nope) - MMOs dont need radiant AI because the interaction comes from other players. That isnt to say NPCs will stay still as most MMOs have roaming NPCs everywhere.
- Radiant Story (Nope) -This doesnt really matter because MMOs have far more content than a single player game.
- NPCs and critters with daily schedules (Nope) - Same thing as radiant AI. It doesnt add much to an MMO.

What's left? Standard fantasy RPG with familiar names and MMO gameplay.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for co-op TES, as long as it retains every single aspect that made TES what it is.

Have you ever played an MMO before? Sounds like you just assume that what can be in a single player game can be in an MMO and that just isnt the case.
