TotalBiscuit gives his opinion on TES:O!

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 9:11 pm

The only video the link bought be too was a vid by total halibut showing some turned based game with some little dude on a horse, I didnt have sound because of where im at, what the heck was that all about? Then underneth I did see comment about tes online.
Turn on the volume next time and let the magic happen.

But he liked SWOTR's combat
Lol,this is where his credibility falls down, how can anyone take him seriously.
Quiet you two!
Ether bring some valid arguments on his review of TES:O and stop nitpicking, or simply leave.
Especially you, The Main Event.
You've been especially acting like a fan-boy and a troll and your presence is not wanted.

TB brought some very valid points and was fair towards TES:O to the max.
All his arguments are great, but you two simply can't accept the fact that someone is saying ANYTHING bad about your little ''perfection'' called TES:O.

I disagree with him on one thing: I really love the combat in Skyrim and even if Oblivion and MW combat systems are flawed, I still prefer it to third-person and/or hotbar combat.
I also prefer TES combat style, but I think that it's badly executed.
There is so much potential to it, it hurts!

OT:
It actually seems that TES:O will be much more similar to GW2 rather than to WoW, and that's great!
Still doesn't change the fact that they should work towards making the combat more action oriented like combat from Tera, and changing art style to make it look more like original TES games (more traditional and realistic medieval style).
I mean, why the hell they didn't ZO aim for that art style from the start?
I simply don't get it!
Not to mention that I saw some screenshots of a woman in armor covering her from neck to toe, BUT LEAVING HER BOOBS OUT!
Honestly, I never expected something distasteful like that to appear in TES (not to mention that armor kinda start losing the point when it is not covering your damn chest, ffs).
And don't tell me about Forsworn armor and how it's revealing because it's totally different thing!
In original TES games, all these things have been done with great taste!
And why do mages wear armor?
Oh gods, art style direction of this game is really horrible and makes me more sick each time I look at it.
All it misses is females having high heels as part of their armor. >_>

Can someone please explain to me why Elder Scrolls fans are being told to not play an Elder Scrolls MMO if they don't like it due to not sharing any semblance to the series they fell in love with? I'm at a loss.

Um...what?

Maybe you mistyped. If someone doesn't like something, and they are being told not to play/use/eat it, isn't that just redundant? is that what you're asking? Or are you saying that people are being told not to play something they love? Are you talking about the video in the OP? I am now completely confused. Please elaborate on your question.

A reviewer derives opinions from impressions, logic, feelings and personal experience. Total Buscuit is a much a gaming commentator as any, he takes his impressions of games/industry and places them in a twenty minute directionless video, this makes him one of the vast number self proclaimed YouTube gaming reviewer experts.

The difference between a good and bad reviewer is if they are objective or not, of which Total Biscuit is not.

Edit - As I said, I do sometimes enjoy his gaming industry commentary and opinions about corporations/developer publisher news, I would never go to him for a decent review of a game though.
Well the big difference between first impressions and reviews is that any real game review requires that the reviewer actually finished the game. You can't do a real review based on the first half hour of a game. The line is a bit blurry sometimes though.

stopped listening a little way in. If i want to hear more about people complaining about the mmo i'll just keep reading more threads here. I personally like the features spoiled about the game. I like 3rd person hotkey MMO's. half the draw of getting better gear is getting to see yourself strut around in it anyway. anyways, much as my opinion doesn't matter to the haters, the haters opinions don't matter to me.
He went into the positive features later on.

Hum well let me get a little off topic here:

Do we have a date for an actual gameplay video?

The hell is this fascination with "haters"? I thought this tripe only existed on music videos. Why does someone making valid and justified complaints automatically mean they hate the subject at hand?

Because space-travel and internet transmissions and ash-grounded-dark-elven-kingdoms-filled-with-insects-for-fauna is soooo medieval.

I think that people are being really too pessimistic about this game that we know next to nothing about.
Have you seen the 10 odd screenshots? They give a pretty good idea of what the game is going to look like. Me and many others don't like this change in style.

It's funny how people say TotalBiscuit is a "nobody"; he's one of the biggest names in MMO commentating, and his beta coverage of a lot of MMO's is very famous.

That being said, I do not agree with everything he said, but I do agree with most of it.

And if they want WoW or GW2 gameplay, they will play those games instead, not TES:O. Best case scenario, TES:O will probably see the same kind of numbers SWTOR had: subscriber count plateauing 6 weeks in, declining 3 months in, and ultimately failing to topple WoW.

I'll never understand why people think that an MMO needs to have more subscribers than WoW to be a success. As long as there's enough people playing that they are making some money the developers and publishers will be satisified and as long as there is enough players to find groups for instances and raids/pvp when I want I'll be satisfied.

I loved Daggerfal combat and Skyrim is fairly solid so I don't agree with him about TES combat being horrible but that is most likely him just engaging in hyperbole. From what info he had to preview I think he sounded cautiously positive. At least he is keeping an open mind until he gets more info and can actually play the finished game; unlike many on this forum. Just give it time. We really know very little about the game. After you play it in beta then feel free to come on the forums and trash it if you must. For now though anyone making grand statements about failure or it being trash is just being silly.

It's simply natural and healthy for people to aim high and try surpass existing boundaries.
Also, it's sad that having just enough players to make game survive while it could've been something much more.

Speaking of Daggerfall combat; I wonder if any of the newer titles tried to make mouse swinging combat like Arena and Daggerfall had.

I can see how some people would be fine with TESO because they don't mind the style of combat it seems to feature. And to be honest, I don't necessarily have a problem with WoW(well not a big one anyway), and I could be tempted to give Guld Wars 2 a try. The problem I have is that ZeniO is making a game like that and calling it The Elder Scrolls Online. To me it's the same thing as if SWTOR had the gameplay it has now, but was called Dark Forces: Jedi Knight Online. The (reported) gameplay does not match. With Warcraft, the transition was pretty smooth thanks to the Hero characters in Warcraft 3 playing in a similar (if more limited) fashion as a character in WoW. No such easy translation of characters appears to be occurring in TESO.

It doesn't, unless it is trying to do exactly the same thing WoW is doing, which is the case with TES:O and so many other "WoW-killer" attempts before it. Eve Online, one of the few MMOs that doesn't try to copy WoW, has a fraction of its subscriber count, and yet CCP is still doing pretty damn well for themselves off of it alone.

As long as there's enough people playing that they are making some money the developers and publishers will be satisified and as long as there is enough players to find groups for instances and raids/pvp when I want I'll be satisfied.
Raids are only good if you Leeroy Jenkins them. Otherwise it's just "SHINY GEAR ONLY" and svcks. Eve had the "raid" problem for the past year with Incursions until they nerfed them just recently so they're no longer a money-printing machine.

I am very disapointed in this announcement. It reminds me of the South Park episode where they [censored] Indiana Jones by putting aliens in the series. I would have rather seen this studio make a spinoff type game like FO-New Vegas, or have this studio work on DLC. I would have loved to see a new TES game in a year or two based on the new engine and made by a separate company than Beth.

Correct me if Im wrong, but the combat will be completely different. The exploration will be largely different. The skills/leveling will be completely different. Looting and picking up items will be different. The art style is obviously different, almost to the point where it isnt even recognizable as a TES game..... So what about this game is TES? The story? The location? Everything else, if I am not mistaken, seems to be completely removed or different. That saddens me. Hell, lets throw Darth Vader and Hitler in to the game and call it TES simply because it takes place on Tamriel.

I really wish they had just added a co-op option to Skyrim or the next game....that seems like a much more exciting experience to me anyway. The only exciting part about this game is that it will include the entire continent of Tamriel, which we havent seen in a very long time and I have always dreamt about. Im extremely dissapointed though that this is the way they decided to do it. Couldnt they have done the same with a singleplayer game like Skyrim? Release one land mass after another via DLC until the whole continent was available? God...just dreaming about it makes me ecstatic....but then sad....Maybe one day

And most of the people here defending TES Online are probably just looking to stroke their egos with an argument, like most of the bethesda forum members. Dont take what they say too seriously.

In a way, TES is OUR game. We have been here since day one, loyally purchasing and playing each addition to the series. I think it is perfectly understandable that we are concerned, worried, upset, or even downright angry. We dont want to see our beloved game destroyed by silly ideas. We have a right to voice our opinion, just as supporters of the TES:Online have the right to come here and beg for guns in Skyrim, TES motion pictures, and TES MMO games.

How I love small text. (I usually am more watchful of the posters who don't offer their reasonings, which is what a forum is for.)

If Dragon's Dogma is any indication, co-op in a real-time fantasy game with high end graphics is viable, even if I won't buy the game. The only issues I could see using the Skyrim engine is the AI, and where it decides to focus if more than one player exists.

Myself though, TESO aside, I don't want the Elder Scrolls to keep getting streamlined to appeal to a wider buyer base that likely isn't as loyal as those of us who've been with the series for years. (2002 for me.) Pokemon has never been streamlined in the main games, and in fact is getting more in depth with each generation. Each time, more fans come, having learned of the prior generation, so why not learn from that example?
