Having played many games with Bethesda involved I can guarantee this game will not work. No, not that its a bad idea for an MMO. Its a good idea in theory, but the game is going to release broken and flop on its face because Bethesda can't release a finished single player game much less a MMO. I can only imagine the horrible glitches this game will release with, and I won't even consider putting the game on my HDD for FREE until at least 6 months to a year after launch. And, only when I'm sure its not going to kill my first born children in the future.
IMO, this is going to be the biggest, most over-hyped, MMO failure in history. Not because Bethesda can't come up with good ideas or good content, but because they can't manage to deliver a relatively bug free experience out of the gate. Developers with reputations for releasing polished and relatively bug free games can't release a "polished" MMO, how can Bethesda even think to try stepping into the MMO world without releasing a TES title with at least co-op multiplayer first? I hope they prove me wrong. That would be magnificent.
EDIT: Substitute Zenimax for Bethesda. I'm old, I just lump Zenimax and Bethesda together because Zenimax was created to be a shell company for Bethesda so they could expand.
TLDR: I don't trust the publisher to release a polished product.
I doubt Zenimax is going to release something akin to Final Fantasy XIV, but they still have zero experience under their belt with this kind of thing. You could argue Matt's past experience helps, but I see that the same way I see the concept for Dishonored. Arkane has some experience making open world games, and they're bringing in people like Harvey Smith, who has experience with Deus Ex/Thief. That is going to help them refine the game to achieve what it's setting out to do.
I am constantly amazed that pinning a post renders it invisible. You realize this forum is temporary, right?
Considering they are looking for paid moderators, along with a lot of other people, it might be safe to say they are at least attempting to not have the whole thing crash instantly when they launch. http://jobs.zenimax.com/search
Moderators, yes, but those people only work in the forums. That job search shows ZO is missing several important positions for this game's development. The Server/Network Software Engineers being the most stand-out to me. Without good server connections, you get lag and latency, something which the GI article stated was the reason no real-time combat exists in the game. So, those positions would be ones I would want to fill first.
