Infinite Quests in Skyrim

Then tell me one thing. What would be better? The Oblivion Dark Brotherhood Questline WITH Story? Or endless amounts of automatically genereated "Kill Person XY" Quests WITHOUT any real story?

I really hope we get BOTH. But i'm not sure if bethesda thinks so too. It would totally kill the game for me if all or most of the faction quests are auto-generated.
The article states that the procedurally generated quests for the Dark Brotherhood (and I infer other factions) don't appear until after completion of the storyline quests.

So, both it is :)

With regards to Stormbird's point - yeah, you get tired of what are ultimately uninspired repetitive quests pretty quick - see pretty much any MMO questing ever :) However, the goal with the Radiant Story system is more to get you started on adventures, and guide you to discovering interesting unique places around the world you may have otherwise missed. It basically helps give non-explorer type gamers a reason to explore.

And, of course, this is the real joy of The Elder Scrolls games: Most of the fun is in the unexpected adventures that happen along the way. (For me, anyways!)

Maybe once you killed everyone outside the DB they start tasking you to kill people inside the DB. Then the last person that survived in the DB would ask you to kill every animal, humanoid, whatever, then he tells you to kill him. Then you kill yourself.

That's true. Few ways to spice it up in the meantime without a human "gamemaster".

I'm assuming if they have infinite quests, that they will have a character generator to repopulate the world.

Otherwise. . . I foresee problems in the near future.

This raises another question for me! When you complete this quest line you are the leader of a faction(at least i think so). Soo... who could possibly give you orders to do quests? The nightmother herself? In Oblivion she does it every week. You, as her speaker, have to carry her orders to the guild. This is the thing the speaker does. He gives orders to the assassins of the brotherhood. It would be a little bit strange when you have to complete this orders by yourself. The only way to do this in a lore sensitive way would be if you arent going to be the speaker of the guild but only a very high ranked assassin.

Nearly the same problem rises for members of the other factions. Who should give quests and orders to the archmage? Or the king of thieves?

It would be really nice if the orders are fitting to the high faction rank of the player. But i don't think that bethesda will care about this since they didn't care in oblivion, too.

I heard in an interview that when you kill an innkeeper, the inkeepers daughter will replace him and hate you because you killed him. I will look up the interview!

What happens when you kill the innkeepers daughter? :o

Well for the brotherhood, in 200 years maybe they found a better system? For other factions your second in command could easily say "your lesser members could not handle a quest of this magnitude, show em how its done champ, we are hired by X to perform Y and you will get Z". At least that's how it goes in my head.

I have wondered this myself!

That would be nice. But i fear it would be something like: "Our lesser members could not handle a quest of this magnitude! You have to kill the 10 rats by yourself!" :D

Do you remember the quest of the mages guild where you had to lay an ambush for the necromancers? You had 3 scholars at your command and you had to use them in the best way depending on their skills.

Would be nice to get more of this npc-"coop" missions as a guild leader. :D

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.................

I'm sorry. I've played games with infinite quests. Eventually, you get sick of them, believe me.

I throw up most weekends, that doesn't stop me drinking and doing it all over again the following weekend.

Pah! I scoff at your pathetic advice, infinite questing ftw! :hehe:

For the dark brotherhood, yes the possibility is there that you wont be head of the guild, just the best assasin to walk the face of the plane.
for others, its very possible that you either 1) are part of the upper circle of command, iow, everyone is equal or 2) You as leader have to adress problems that arise within your organisation.

The idea behind this was, as stated earlier that you have something to do when you finish a (for example) guilds questline. Since it would be really weird if the dark brotherhood would find itself without things to kill.

Skit :
You : hello brothers of the night, any more contracts to fufill?
others : nope all out, great job on that last one though....
You : so when will we be getting new ones?
others : .... others? are you of your rocker?

I really doubt they will be just kill 10 rats. I too would like npc quests like that but I don't know if I would like them to be repeatable. Maybe if they were done right.

Lesser problem for the king of thieves.

"Hey, there's some gold over there!"

Quest justified.

Maybe I'm optimistic, but I have great faith that all the quest lines will be interesting and fun to play through the first time around. I'm sure it will be clear once we get to the point of "random only from now on", but I have every confidence that getting to that point will be highly engaging, even if lots of randoms are mixed in to the scripted quests.

Hopefuly, we won't be able to lead a guild anymore; it's senseless, after all.

I myself don't see the point, nor want to lead a guild if I can't be a real leader, so a greatly prefer to be (speaking of DB) an elite assassin better than the Speaker. The same with the rest.

Even if the system falls short of your expectations, it provides a very convenient place for modders to expand the game.
