Graphics getting drastically worse after patch 2.1?

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 8:58 pm

Just so I can keep an eye out, which textures, specifically, are people noticing the drop in quality in? I'm about to install the patch.

The graphics looks exactly the same for me as they have before the patch, I think this is just people trying to put out more ''Problems'' that need to be fixed when they don't jesus.
Please, I've got no other complaints besides the bugs. Don't say we're just simply trying to add more problems.

This thread was totally ridiculous from the start. Don't post that graphics are drastically worse without side-by-side screenshot comparisons using the same system and TV, before and after. Anything else, whether you're using all CAPS or just repeating yourself, does nothing for the rest of the community, or for Bethesda.
Are you a new moderator? Please don't do that. If you have a problem with the thread, report it and if a moderator doesn't lock it...oh well. Thing is that we don't want members to come into threads just to complain about the thread.

Will do, I'm also diverting the Hubble telescope so it looks directly in to my room, to give us a better comparison.

Shut up <_<

And don't tell people to shut up.

Have some manners people.

Edit: Just want to add that it isn't very helpful for people to come into a thread to post they are not having problems as if the ones that are are lying or making stuff up. People generally don't come to the forum to say, "Hey folks, my game is running perfect". In fact those people without issues are playing the game instead. But some are having problems and Bethesda wants to hear from them so they know what is left to fix or what may have gone wrong. It's just a bit rude to flag your not having the same issues in others faces. Like having a candy bar and making sure everyone knows you have one and they don't. A bit immature really. So don't do that.

In... 2.1? What are you talking about? The graphics are drastically improved, and they fixed that horrible bug from 2.0 where dragons would actually spawn inside buildings (thank GOD, fighting dragons in my kitchen was just so annoying!). What I'm really excited about with this update though is the Co-op mode. Travelling through skyrim, flinging spells while my buddy watches my back... man, you should have heard him celebrate back when 1.9 added spears, he was so happy. But yeah, best Mage/Tank team ever, really. 2013 is the best year for TES fans ever!

...Meanwhile, in the present, we just got 1.2. Don't get ahead of yourself, silly.

My reply came across as meaner / more aggressive than I wanted it to. I'm not a moderator, I totally understand that. I'm just frustrated at the growing number of threads and replies along the lines of "yeah it svcks" or "looks the same, troll" without any details. Non-variable screenshots would help the community and Bethesda immensely, in both identifying the problems, quantifying them, and allowing other users to compare once they've downloaded the same patch.

I'm not a coding expert or anything like that, so I want to first make that disclaimer. That being said, I've been playing Beth games for almost a decade starting with Morrowind on PC and then later on Xbox and PS3. In the time I've been playing these games I've learned a couple things I believe are very pertinent to this thread and the whole issue at large. These games release buggy. It's easier to fix on PC because we can modify them with player modding as well as console commands, but console players aren't as fortunate in that respect. As far as that bugginess is concerned, I don't think people are being open enough in this discussion. That, or they aren't acknowledging something very important about the way Beth's games are designed. Everything is run off of plugins and packets of information that are all thrown together to run simultaneously. If something loads in a different order on your console, or your system is bogged down by different data and the game is installed in goofy volumes on the hard drive, it can spell doom for your game. We hope that the devs will fix all these things day -365, but the inverse is usually the case, with a couple remnants obviously finding a way to stick around. That load order can influence which textures and effects make it into your game and which ones are overwritten in the process. I just wanted to put that out there as a "maybe we're ALL right here" scenario. So let's be nice and try to look at the possibilities instead of beating eachother about the head. :)

It seems the same people are posting the same things on multiple threads. A 90MB patch is much more than reducing the graphical quality, that would be a very small patch.
I notice no difference at all visually, the shadows still flicker but the textures appear to be exactly the same. If they downgraded a few textures, I have not noticed them and it isn't really a problem for me, the game still performs well for me.

Instances where i've noticed resolution difference:
Whiterun ( the place i frequent for crafting since it has all three craftin places) the ground is grainier looking and the final model render is more rounded/smooth/low res looking 2nd, the up close armor renderign is less detailed i actually removed armor from my follower NPC placed on my PC and then had follower NPC put it back on and noticed a "skin over" for texturing on some of the armor where as before there was actual model rendering for the metal plates, on character, there are sharp edges juttin into the main player model from the individual plates rather then them beign seperated and individual looking this is also a lower resolution trick and makes character models more blocky and generic then refined and polished, basicallly in 3d modelign to eliminate the "block" look they add faces or vertices and recess them up to make the peice look/feel seperate prior to patch main player armor had this, and doesn't now. ( only reason i knwo this is cause i play with blender 3d almost religiously for a week or so and then let the rest fo the month go to whatever)

Not for anything, but I made a video showing the game with and without the 1.2 patch. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1295797-texture-comparison-after-12-patch/

Agreed, although the only comparison so far is 480p, there is no difference in the video and i have noticed no difference while playing.

I dont think you should have to sell your game. Bethseda should do the right thing and recall the game as they have produced
a faulty product. After the patch my PS3 is crashing so bad during the game that I have to reset the machine as the controller wont even respond

Hey same here! After the new patch my game crash after 2 hours of gameplay and was still laggy.
12mb (14mb before patch) 55 hours of gameplay.

You know what? Let's use the linked thread to discuss the fact that some people feel the graphics changed noticeably.

I watched the video and although I don't get too spazzy about super close up textural stuff, I didn't see much difference. So if you are going to cry foul about textures, make sure you have some comparison screenshots or something to help your case.
