Are the Silver Hand really so bad?

Way I see, there's three types of Skyrim factions.
1. People who welcome (or tolerate) your presence. These I'll stay with, do business with, and help, if they ask.
2. People who ask you to leave first. When asked to leave, I'll usually do just that. Live and let live.
3. People who attack without warning or provocation. Like the Silver Hand. They receive swift, merciless justice.

There just a rogue vigilantly group. Not unlike villagers with torches and pitchforks.

The Companions might not be super evil, but they seem at least as evil or more evil than the Silver Hand.

For one thing of course some of them are werewolves. When your character turns into a werewolf the town is terrified and damaged. The Silver Hand wants to stop that. They only seek werewolves, whereas the Companions kill normal humans in the Silver Hand. Also the Companions are mercenaries, and may take unsavory assignments it seems. Of course the game wants you to believe the Companions are good and Silver Hand is evil, so I think you get a skewed in-game perspective.

You know when you change into a werewolf, you can run up to the top of Skyforge and just wait out your transformation and not harm a single person in Whiterun right?

And they solve problems if the coin is right. Ok so they are mercenaries. But they are not like the Dark Brotherhood.

People being terrified of what they don't understand doesn't make them any more evil really, thats to be expected but I don't remember any damage being done to the town. The Silver Hands weren't discrimitory in attacking me when I was near their forts, of cource I was a werewolf at the time but they had no way of knowing that until I changed and when I was on my trial they didn't hesitate to try and kill me. The Companions being Mercs doesn't really make them evil either, it doesn't make them good, chaotic neutral at best I would say.

I have to agree though that the view is completely skewed. I won't hesitate to kill a werewolf in the wild if it attacks me, but I don't activly seek them, and my view goes back to their cruelty and lack of compasion for the afflicted. They don't seem to care about condition when hunting.

it svcks that the Silver hand has no lore to them. When we get the quests to wipe them out at the hideouts the game just renames bandits to Silverhand and sends you to a bandit hideout where the enemies were previously bandits.
