Halo and CoD are a joke

Even with Halo Wars population, there are some OP problems... Seriously, in one game I was spamming scarabs (With having 5 out at a time)...

I've only even managed to get out two, and that's with multiple bases.

In some of them the limit can be a bit too constricting, but if you don't have one then there's no real strategy to winning. All you need to do is spam units, whereas with a population limit you have to think about what type of army to build. Its actually one of the reasons why I lose interest quickly whenever I play C&C games nowadays.
In C&C it's managed by the resource income levels and counter-units.
A BH inf spam is powerful against tanks, but a single commando, several sniper teams or Hammerheads nearly negates it.

The problem with Halo wars for me is:
1. The base system. My opponent knows right off the bat where all my potential bases are.
2. The unit design. It's just completely out of whack. With Grizzlys beating banshees, Hawks beating grunt squads and ODST's beating wraiths, throws out the rock, paper, scissors style they were aiming for.
3. There's really only two effective strategys(3 for the covenant) 1. Rush, 2. Build large army of one unit and just attack or 3. Build two scarabs.
It's always the same for the UNSC: Grizzlys, Hawks, ODST's or the Covenant: Jackals, Hunters, Vampires or 6 scarabs.

Some games need a pop limit. 120 Elite Teutonic Knights+60 Paladins+5 Trebuchets+15 Villagers is pretty much an Unstoppable civilization destroying force.

COD4 and WaW were fairly decent games. There are much better FPS games out there, but they're both still enjoyable. MW2 pretty much ruined the series with its lack of dedicated servers and excessive emphasis on killstreaks.

Never liked Halo as it consolized online FPS gaming.

I agree. They tried to make everything "epic" (I hate that term so much), by adding in overly powerful kill streaks instead of actually revamping or even adding to their multiplayer. If anything, Treyarch is the one that is attempting to do this with their Call of Duty's, whereas Activision couldn't care less.

I don't understand the appeal of killstreak rewards anyway. Do people seriously get a buzz from getting 5-6 kills in a row, hiding, then letting the game do all the work and take them upto 20+ kills?

Perks and weapon upgrades I can see the benefit of, even if they cause serious balancing issues every now and then.... but killstreak rewards? No thanks. hardcoe mode with killstreak rewards disabled is a MUCH better experience.

^^^Which is an option btw.

killstreaks reward you by giving you a temporary advantage for doing well at the game. It is a nice system and I like it. There is also the Specialist mode in MW3 which gives you more perks as you get kills. No killstreaks. They make the game more dynamic.
