WoW sets up a terrible example of MMOs payment wise, if you look at others its not that bad. Take EVE for example, the game itself is free and so is all 18 expansions that has been released. That's the way MMOs should work IMO.

Is it micro-transaction based? Because I definately prefer that to a subscription, similar to how League of Legends is set up, as long as it's not overpriced of course (like the alternate skins in League).

Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not saying MMO's are cheap on upkeep, but charging $15 a month for several million people seems like overkill. If it was around the ballpark of lets say $10, then I think more people would play.
I think they're quite expensive, actually, but I definitely do agree that $15/month/player is outrageous. The most I'd be willing to pay is $5 unless there's a ton of new content released on a regular basis. The only point I was making is that I'm absolutely sure that complex MMORPG's are very expensive to maintain compared to other types of games.

EVE is a subscription game however once you have advanced far enough in game you can pay your subscription with in game cash. Which is another thing all MMOs should have too. It stops most RMT, gold farmers and all the bad stuff.
