Disappointed with Alduin

Post » Tue Jan 22, 2013 12:32 pm

Even turning the difficulty up to Master I was still able to kill him in like 5 minutes. I had a harder time with Harkon than i did Alduin.
I killed him with an enchanted fork the first time. The seond time I just punched him to death. Had a crossbow, had a nice Dragonbone weapon...too easy and even then.

This is an area Bethesda...has trouble with.

Fighting Dagoth Ur is just plain weird, and if you knock him off the bridge he cant hurt you.

In Oblivion...was there even a last fight? Im not even sure if the giant boss was considered part of the world. it wasnt in the Creatures section of the construction set. Ultimately in that game, the final boss was the doors. because sometimes you'd have to open and close doors a lot to make your vital vulnerable characters not get stuck in that place they go when you open a door at the wrong time and they are on neither side.

And in Skyrim you shout at a dragon until your friends kill it.

Oh, this is fun for me though. When I first did the fight, I was having a bug. Its the bug that removes special ighting effects. You can see underwater, the icebergs below the surface perfectly. shadows warp and expand as you pass them, extending out as if the sun had dissapeared... And snow and fog are gone.

So heres what I was thinking "Why are we all shouting to clear fog? Theres none here at all."
Needless to say, this final event was confusing.

Mehrunes Dagon was considered a NPC in Oblivion, and even had his own race so that he could be given the proper traits.

While you weren't really supposed to fight him, you could actually kill him if you were somehow able to hit hard enough (he had 10,000 HP and high resistances). It wasn't wise to do so, however, because preventing him form reaching the Temple of the One broke the script.

As for Alduin, yeah, the fight needs some work. The first time I fought him it became immediately clear that you were meant to be unable to lose the fight no matter what level you went in at; even if you somehow went in at L1 (which is actually doable, albeit really difficult), the three invincible allies would insure that you'd never get hit unless you attempted to close to melee. That is not how boss fights should be set up, since they're meant to provide at least some challenge. Note that that does not necessarily mean he should be ridiculously difficult, as that scenario has problems of its own.

I was also quite disappointed that those three could not be killed. I didn't even like them and shield-bashed one of them into the abyss :D

However, on some of my tries, Tsun got hit by one of their shouts and furiously attacked and knocked them down.

At least some stuff like drastic vision blurring and earthquakes would have been nice and easy to implement.

The attacks continue after Alduin is defeated, anyhow

I installed a mod to correct this inconvenience.
Well, it's natural that all awakened dragons remain in Skyrim. Paathurnaax even says that he's going to teach them the Way of the Voice, but I guess it's not an easy feat and in the meantime they'll continue to attack people.

That's true, however his defeat is supposed to prevent any more from being awakened since he's the one who's doing so. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way, as the ones that don't have names are not marked as being 'unique' and as a result keep respawning after being killed.

The first time for Alduin was difficult for me. His fire attack 1 hit KOed me every time. Now Alduin on Master is easy for me without any followers.

Just dragonrend + spellbreaker + full deaedric + dragon infusion perk

The second battle was a joke

Now I installed a few mods to make dragons more difficult. This is what I used:

1) Deadly Dragons + armory + update + Lormongers edition
2) Dragons Diversified

Now the firsts dragon is a bit harder still easy. But the second dragon you fight with delphine was nearly impossible for me. I recommend that you use this mods and start the main quest around level 40 to make the most of it.
