This thread is pretty self serving for me, I'm using it to get out all the bad vibes I have for Elves (mainly altmer), by being biased and getting all that crap out of the way. It's true I could have worded it differently, and I think I was running off only a couple hours of sleep, so it never crossed my mind to double check for being biased. At this point it doesn't make sense for me to mess the wording as it will yielf different results. Heck I could even change it to make it look like everyone who voted altmer will have supremist tendancies suddenly love ponies and wearing makeup (not that I'm saying they have any correlation).

Orsimer is the most peaceful race of tamriel.

Viewed as the most barbaric by other races because of traditions.

But you never see a orsimer war another race for fun or of fear of being hunted down later.

The orsimer just wants to be left alone.

They joined the daggerfall covenant with the promise to have their lands returned to them.

The Nazis took over land they had never been to.... not sure how "their ancestors hunted on that land" applies too all the land they took.

It is my understanding that the Altmer do not claim to rule by establishing that they were on tamriel first, but because they are the oldest and wisest race. It is however backed by smaller details such as the fact that they were on the land first and personally built the white gold tower.

Elves are called mer, and vice versa, because when the series started with Arena, you had a set of classic D+D fantasy roleplaying races: wood/dark/high elves, orcs, dwarves, cat people and lizard people, and a couple of flavors of humans. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Arena:Races (orcs didn't become playable till later, dwarves still aren't).

Each subsequent game in the series refined the uniqueness of the world and the special qualities of the TES versions of these races more and more, and added on top of that a set of rather ad hoc explanations for the original names and the characteristics ascribed to the races in the earlier games

No objection to that, just another example of how "lore" evolves in fantasy fiction, and why nobody should complain if in the next iteration, it evolves some more Lore does not break, it bends.

It is one of the main reasons I hope there is no way to communicate with other factions. The rabid [censored] are going to be really annoying about this. Luckily orcs rarely go on about this stuff, so DC will largely be free of this garbage.
