am I the only one not excited...?

Post » Mon Sep 23, 2013 4:45 pm

The only people that could possibly BE excited about next gen are console-only gamers or gamers that don't know any better. There is absolutely nothing exciting or "next-gen" about the new consoles, from what I've seen, that the PC platform hasn't already been able to offer for years. It's really sad.

Well, while I may not be "excited" about the new consoles, I'm also not part of the currently-hip "gaming industry svcks/only the dumb could care" bandwagon, either.

Yeah, because Fallout 4 and TES6 will be on PS4!

I am sad to say that, for the first time, I am not at all excited about the new generation of consoles. Nothing the Xbox one has to offer (Call of Duty, Sports, tv) interests me. The PS4 has a couple of new titles that sound promising but are not compelling enough to purchase a console.

Can't really blame developers for "playing it safe" because they have a lot more money at stake, more investors to please.

I don't get much excited over platforms. I get excited over games. I like the "indie" movement as we may end with games that are better simply because they don't try to appeal to a mass audience. But the game series are getting tired. I mean, is one Call of Duty that much different than another one?

The main reason I'm looking forward to the next generation consoles is because many indie/kickstarter developers seem to embrace the PS4.

Sure, I could play those games on PC instead, but when it comes to certain types of games, I prefer to be on the couch with a controller instead of sitting by my computer desk (and I have no intention of moving my computer to the TV or getting a really long HDMI cable in between )

There are no big next-gen console games I look forward to at the moment though, at least not any that I will be playing on the console (Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 will be played on PC).

TESVI better look, play and be awesome on PS4. Large world, awesome battles (like, actual battles, fought by hundreds of soldiers), smarter enemies, beautiful graphics, deep ganeplay, and an amazing story.

Bethesda, don't let us down.

I don't care anything for the consoles themselves, but I am excited about the games.

Nope, you're not the only one. There's quite a bit that has me depressed as of late, and games are one of the things, but not the "major" factor. With Aliens: Colonial Marines, I put a lot of faith, hope, and desire into the game. Pre-ordered at the last second after I put some thought into it because I wanted to pre-load it so I could play with my friend. That's a good $60 I won't see back and I've almost sworn off gaming. There are days where my desktop will be powered on, but it sits idle as I do nothing with it.

It was just in the recent days of this past week I loaded up Fallout: New Vegas to scratch my FO itch. Once that is done and over with, I won't turn my computer on for some time.

The industry just svcked my passion dry as they go for eye candy, guns galore, etc..., with no heart or soul to the game itself. Borderlands 2 is another example where it started off decent, but things just went down hill. That "dynamic" weapon system wasn't so dynamic for me as I found it rather easy to get capped weapons. Won't put the $10 up for that Ultimate Vault Hunter Pack 2 expansion.

Final thing I will say is that it's the rehashed characters, tweaking them for "face value" that annoys me. That Devil May Cry reboot is the prime example where it disgusts me to no end. Dante doesn't have his unique style and puts himself in the front as some emo child with turrets syndrome. Whatever, I'm just obsolete. Heck, I'm a person who likes to spend several days on hardcoe quests to earn items in MMOs, yet that's not good enough for the casual gamer who needs to earn their 100% legendary uber epic gear within 30min because any longer than that is boring.

Think the last game I have a shred of hope for is Fallout 4. If Bethesda doesn't deliver, I'm tempted to burn/shred my gamer card and turn in my hat.

I was more excited for the Vita than the PS4.

I also want a 3DS so I can play Bravely Default.

I'm not really excited by the next gen XB or PS. I've got a fairly new PC and still have my 360, so I'm won't be dropping cash on either any time soon. As for all the "innovation" of the new gen, I think most of it will just be prettier graphics on sequels for existing IPs and stupid novelty features that I don't care about. I may purchase one (probly a PS4) at some point, but it won't be in the next year or two.

Edit:

That game, as good as it started, was definitely a disappointment for me. Between the bullet sponges, raid bosses, terrible drop rates, social networking perks, character skin microtransactions, heavy handed nerfing (while other game-breaking issues had yet to be resolved), the redesigned weapons(which were much less diverse than the blander and generally more effective weapons in BL1), and dismissive attitude toward customer complaints, Gearbox really killed the franchise for me.

It makes me sad that I reserved and paid for a loot chest preorder.

I'm looking forward to getting my PS4. There's some great games on the way and no doubt more in the pipeline.

It started off good, but I do agree that things just stunk the further you got into it. I purchased the S1 pass thing and got my monies worth out of it. Gearbox is just gonna milk B2 so hard until it's a misshapen corpse that it won't be identifiable from the rest of the bones in the wastelands of Pandora.

The raid bosses were a let down as well. Crawmerax I loved because he was tough, and yet you could solo him with a good strategy. These new bosses were just straight up sad with Tiny Tina's boss being an all too reminiscent thing of power vs strategy where you have to beat the crap out of the boss vs thinking how to beat them. Though he was weak, I think Pyropete was the best of the bosses because you could beat him with a decent effort. What gained my true ire for Gearbox and made me distrustful of them was the rumor they took the money for ACM and put it towards Borderlands to make it a reality. After that, they pawned it off on another company.

None of the newer consoles have caught my eye and when I get that idea to purchase them, I remind myself of how much I wanted a PS3 and Nintendo Wii. Hounded the people at the target near me and went up to get the Wii when they had it in stock. Now, it just sits near the TV and collects dust. It's been around a year or two since I turned my Nintendo Wii on, with my PS3 being a not too distant second at close to 6 to 8 months.

Why spend $$$ on games which give me a minor amount of happiness when I can just put it towards bills to keep my needs sustained.

I came into a bit of money and had to decide on whether to use it to buy the xbox one when it comes out, or to use it to buy a headset. I went with headset. It's not that I am not looking forward to it, it's just that the leap in the new generation doesn't seem as great as that from, say, xbox to Xbox 360, or SNES to N64. I'll buy it once the price drops and the game library is bigger.
