Should players be allowed to respec?

Post » Wed Dec 04, 2013 5:08 pm

Dictionary definition of immersion is basically just being fully focused in something. It is such a general and open definition that it is common sense that people would interpret it differently.

Couldn't anyways. Breaks other people's immersion.

Then try Nordjitsu's excellent rationalization below. Either way, I'm afraid it's happening. :)

Well lets see.. while its true I can simply choose not to respec, but heres what happens...

Your playing in a group, someone says, 'hold on, I want to go respec.' = immersion is then broken for me regardless of whether or not I choose to use that feature.

Considering Illusion magic in the single player games is basically mind-control for the most part then yes, it is VERY believable. Or is Illusion magic immersion breaking too?

I, and no offense, have feeling that your immersion is going to be broken in anything other than a single player game.

Who are you to dictate what is and isn't believable in a fantasy world filled with magic?

Sorry your imagination is so limited.

The whole point, is that someone else is going to do that, rp a person like that, and come to you, like that, whether you RP or not, and is going to wreck things for you. It's going to happen All. The. Time. Respecs are the least of your worries

As opposed to playing in a group and someone says:

"brb afk"

"respawns behind us"

"bro did you catch the walking dead season finale last night bro?"

etc

RIP in peace Raben Dranath's immersion

Because no illusion effects are permanant, it is believable. If i could control the mind of another players character indefinitely, well that would just plain svck for them wouldnt it. It would be an unbeleivable situation to the other player and break their immersion.

Yea, pretty much. I am hoping that ESO will have enough immersion to keep me interested though. in the mean time, I will be pushing for the removal or prevention of immersion breaking features.

Like respeccing

or quest markers(the biggest immersion killer of them all)

Knowing that other people might try to play this game on console breaks my immersion. What should I do?

It is not going to, no MMO is going to have the strict-coded immersion you seek. Chat alone will kill ANY MMO for you it seems.

Achievements are probably going to drive you nuts too. A little box that says "All the Murder! 10/10" when you kill civilians or something in the bottom right of the screen. afaik you can't turn those off

Funny. While some people may laugh at me over this immersion issue, If the game flops 3 months after release, no one will be laughing.

If it does, it certainly won't be because you're not underwater.

Of course, this game will flop because it's not up to your standards for immersion.

Tell me, since you can obviously predict the future, where will I be in 6 years? I'm considering running for senate.
