Potions in my inventory! ARRRRRGH!

Post » Tue Aug 28, 2012 12:10 am

Once I dropped all my potions. It was beautiful, I had a ring of colourful bottles all around my character. Hundreds of them. But yeah I am a Mage and can use healing to restore health and stamina. I sometimes use one or two healing potions if im not quick enough but other than that I never use them. I still carry around tons of Magicka, health and stamina potions. Also lots of resist shock, fire etc. It is useless because when I run out of Magicka I use my bow. My bow is at 92 skill I use it as much as Magic. I also cook food that restores 15 health. It's pointless, I just make it because I like cooking in Skyrim.

I tend to hoard potions. Actually i tend to hoard everything, i have a specific place for each type of item (food, potion, weapons, armor) in my whiterun house :D

The 0.5 potions are a pain though. Being paranoid, i don't know if i'll ever suddenly need that potion urgently, so im always "forced" to not drop potions. But of course once i get into the higher levels and start getting ultimate potions of health, i start flinging all those little health potions into the sewers.

I have 15 Ultimate Healing, 15 Ultimate Magicka, 10 Ultimate Stamina, 10 Cure Disease, 15 Cure Poison (For those damned Chaurus Reapers) and 5 Invisibilty. I remember doing my inventory cleaning. I had to travel to 2 different Thieves Guild Fence each with 4000 gold just to sell all my potions. It feels wrong to just drink them all. Heck, I still have the Potion of Minor Healing from Helgen.

I feel like cutting down on health potions since I rely on Restoration alot. I regret not taking the perk that also restores Stamina earlier.
Tip: All potions nearly weigh the same, stock up on the best type to save space. Do not bring food(except for Sweetrolls and Skooma)

I remember I have been carrying loads of potions around. I really need to clean out my potions. How does Dragonborn carry so freakin' many?
Edit- He probably has invisible pockets or body storage. Or maybe he has a telepathic connection to a secret storage area. His mind can only hold so much weight! Good idea or what?

This is how Esbern (All videogame characters in general) store their inventory: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqWmWPRJDbo (Slightly NSFW)

Since only Restore Health and Cure Disease potions are actually any use, everything else gets sold when I visit the shops. As the game progresses and I get better RH potions I also start selling the lesser ones. With some stealth characters I might keep poison potions for arrows, but most times I forget to use them and end up selling them. Also once you've perked your bow to over 300 damage before stealth bonuses, 25 points of poison damage are neither here nor there.

I don't have a real problem with Potions because on master at level 20 I tend to go through a pile of them, especially when a dragon appears. I sell all the fortify abilities potions

Yes! The fortify potions are pretty vital for magic wielders, and you can make some nice three ingredient, multi-effect potions that are great for the class you are playing as.

For the mages... Nightshade + Glow Dust + Tundra Cotton = Fortify Magicka & Fortify Destruction

For the archers.. Juniper Berries + Elves Ear + Snowberries = Fortify Marksman & Resist Fire

For the warriors... Tundra Cotton + Slaughterfish Scales + Thistle Branch = Fortify Block, Fortify Heavy Armour & Resist Frost

I always carry class specific potions and enemy specific poisons with me, and when I've made a ton of gold I can afford to buy all the plentiful, vigorous and ultimate M/H/S potions from apothecaries. Then I can give my followers the weaker home made health potions.
Yeah, those potions can really help damage output, armor output, etc. They are all really effective, which is why those types of potions are scattered through my inventory.

Hyperspace. That is how he carries all those potions.

Even on Master I don't use many potions. The only potions I'll ever use are to fortify One handed and Alteration but that is only when I'm about to go wolf. Unless I'm using tons of magic I don't bother picking up those potions, I never have any need for stamina, I'll seldom have health potions due to restoration. I don't train Alchemy because I don't see a point to it (the potions you find/buy are more effective anyways) but mainly because I'm reducing the weight and I simply do not need them.

I keep about 20 invisibility potions on my person at all times on my archer character, along with 20 paralysis and slow poisons (secondary damage health effects on most of them). Then there're however many restore health pots I made last time I was at an alchemy table. Breezehome has a dedicated medicine cabinet with well over 500 assorted potions in. I dread getting the abilities which give you a chance of making two potions at a time.

Role-Playing doesn't allow me to carry more than 5 potions.

Where did you get your backpack? I always carry only one potion in my right pocket [the left one is for my house key].

I noticed this with Skyrim. In Morrowind and Oblivion I lived and died by my potions, especially in Morrowind, less in Oblivion. But I use magic more in Skyrim than I did in either of the previous games. So now, I've got a crap load of potions. It's such a habit of mine to keep them (because I always used them) but... I don't really use them anymore. :P

"I will not pick up another one. I will not pick up another one." Keep saying that to myself. Useless. Suddenly I'm carrying about WAY TOO MANY POTIONS. Why don't I listen to myself?

I guess so, and as a lower level I used quite a few conjuration potions, but at the point where you can't carry that extra ebony ingot because of the sheer amount of potions in your inventory, then you start getting annoyed.

My currently active character has stopped looting entirely for about the past 10 hours of play time and I still have over 50 Ultimate Healing Potions.

"Sell them" is not valid advice in this case. I mean, you can sell some but you'll still have a ton of them. I made a couple of poisons which were 450 gold a piece, and I literally had to go all around Skyrim to offload at least half of what I had. There's no mudcrab merchant here after all, though I'm thinking about that speechcraft perk now...

I have a drawer beside my bed with about 400 potions in my house. It's crazy, same thign with Gems and Soul Gems. I just have too many, I can never sell them because no merchant can buy them all, and it would just take so much time.

My main character is an Alchemist. I make better potions then most people can buy and only carry what i beleive i need for the mission at hand. Anything else gets stashed or sold. So no, potions have never been a problem. MY problem is i'm a compulsive hoarder of alchemy reagents.. I'm constantly having that "ooo! Shiney!" reaction even if my present character never has any plans to brew a single potion within their lifetime. I'll ditch armor and weapons before i'll sell my components. It's a real problem at times

well for your wolf atleast, home made potions of health and stamina regen will out perform anything you can buy once you've gott the perk and Snakeblood is a lifesaver when fighting Chaurus in Beast Form! Alteration, Restoration, and Alchemy are a werewolf's best perk related friends.

I thought I was the only one with this problem. I found out I rarely ever use potions and that was the main reason I had so many. Eventually I sold them all and I use my restoration/ regen enchanments as a substitute.
