Pre-order bonuses revealed

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 7:17 am

The bonuses are amazing! I need to see how I can get each of them. Also, as a tarot card enthusiast, why is Death 21? Seriously I hope it's not really like that because that is a huge blow to me. I know it's pretentious but it really makes me angry. What is 13 then?

FYI, the Tarot cards were designed by Arkane. This is a 78 cards deck that doesn't match usual divinatory decks because we envisioned it as a typical deck from the alternate world of Dunwall. All artworks are original and were created by Arkane; there's even a rules set for an original game called "The Game of Nancy" in the box. Sorry if it makes you angry, but we did really put a lot of work in there and we hope people who will pre-order from Gamestop will like it.

Aw, I would have totally wanted the tarot cards. But of course that's just for America. Thanks, Bethesda! :goodjob:
Yeah I was pretty disappointed by that as well. I already have a pre-order from Amazon though so I guess I'll just stick with that.

That sounds amazing, what attention to detail! Now I'm tempted to pre-order the PC version from Gamestop.

I want to qualify this question by saying I know it's extremely crunch oriented and OCD in nature. If it can't be answered, that's cool. Also, please don't mock me too much. That's about as much insulation as I can do.

With there being only 12 Bone Charms showing up in any one play-through according to the wiki, does a DLC and the three charms it comes with take out three from showing up in the world or do they stack on top of the random draws. If it's the latter then potentially a game could have 15, 18, 21 or 24 charms in a play-through and all DLCs together would affect things (not trying to be pedantic---this is just reading obtusely even for me). If it's the first option, having all DLCs would lock charms from ever showing up. Seeing as I'm going to gift a copy to a mule-headed friend and try buying the Walmart/Amazon codes on e-bay, it's not an entirely ridiculous question.

Looking forward to seeing those cards and thank you for what I know will be a game I can't furnish enough superlatives for. :)

The tarot cards sounds pretty awesome, but the game itself is enough for me :)

Nothing's been announced for Europe (or Steam, for that matter). More info will arrive soon... stay tuned!

My first guess was that those are added to the list of possible ones that can spawn, but I am by no means sure

That's what I'm hoping mak. By the way, thank you for your compiling efforts. I have a different tag on GFAQs and I've posted the wiki link there as well as these forums and other links to do my small part to spread the Dishonored love as you have.

Hey devs, I have a question about this pre- order stuff. Are these charms and in-game statues pre-order exclusive? Like, if I don't get the GameStop one, I can never find the Whale statue or the Void Channel charm in the game? Or is this just a useful starter kit kind of bundle that gives you a head start?

Obviously not staff, but what I think may happen is after a week or so after launch, all these pre-order bonuses will become available for purchase as DLC.

No, see, I'm more concerned about the devs pulling an EA-style stunt on us. I read in the GameInformer article on Dishonored last year that there was a charm that allowed you to gain extra health from dining on white rats. Yet now it's being packaged with a few other charms as an "exclusive" pre-order pack. If they removed that charm and other charms from the game in order to sell them as exclusive pre-order DLC, like how BioWare cut the Prothean character from Mass Effect 3 during development and made him a collector's edition bonus, I'm going to be really disappointed.

Ah, just took another look and you are indeed right. However, I still am not exactly keen on the idea of not being able to have certain items unless I pay for them, despite the fact that said items have been announced and finished 4 months before release. The rest of the pre-order stuff is cool, like the tarot cards and the lamp, but I really dislike having to pre-order or pay extra for things that are already complete.

Were the differences from real tarot a stylistic decision, or, no offense, did someone just not do the research? I mean, I don't really mind either way, since I don't know the first thing about tarot, but having that extra bit of authenticity would have been a nice touch.

Guys, I don't know if I'll be able to sleep at night if I don't get both the USB Oil lamp AND the collectable trading cards. Consider me a lost sale!

A lot of research has been done, and we got inspired by several alternative Tarot decks, which are sometimes very far from the usual divinatory deck... But first, we wanted something that really fits the game settings, which was not possible with a standard set of Tarot cards. And there are also a few tweaks done for the Game of Nancy rules set...

That is explained in the post you quoted.
