Pricing Discussion (B2P, Subscription, F2P, etc.)

having a little bit of trouble with agreeing your comment ... only for the reason of money.

I don't really see how you disagree since blue was going with it's how they decide to run their business. I see a add-on. It seems that they just wanted to make more money. Which is the way they wanted to go and did things they thought would make it so.

well i just meant that once we get used to the staff she mentions .. then all of a sudden out of the blue all the staff is Gone .. everything then changed. so i was having trouble agreeing with her statement cause we dont know what zenimax has planned .. we do know that bethesda has an outstanding reputation .. and zenimax has allways been there with them .. but have we seen zenimax stand alone before on any game or title that was mmo? no we havent .. was only my meaning

having a little bit of trouble with agreeing your comment ... only for the reason of money. i have seen before that companies have created a Great mmo and then once it was well established they fired or laid off all the people and brought in all new staff and then totaly changed everything in the game and then went free to play when there was NO reason whatsoever to do it other than Money. i dont know much about zenimax ... we have seen bethesda do a great job .. i think thier staff and methods and work history is awesome. just dont know alot about zenimax other then they are connected to bethesda. ive read here 3 different beliefs on this forum about thier conection
1) zenimax owns bethesda
2) zenimax is only a sister of bethesda
3) zenimax is not associated with bethesda, thier only a suporter and they sometimes help in the production ...
i dont know which is true because i never looked it up. mainly i was under the belief that #2 was the truth because you allways see both loggos on elderscrolls titles and the videos made by zenimax on thier youtube channel

Zenimax Media owns Bethesda and the subdivision that is working on the MMO, Zenimax Online (Bethesda and Zenimax share a building.)

My thesis is simply for the consumer-side of the product, and not for the company. It is well established that people will pay for things they enjoy. Thus whether it is a F2P model or P2P model people will pay and/or play it regardless as long as they find the game pleasurable. If for any reason the consumer doesn't like the game any longer (like your scenario where they fire everyone and the game changes), they will most likely stop playing it. At this moment whether they pay monthly or if it was free no longer matters. At least, that is my opinion.

Ah, I see. Yes, it is possible that the "head honcho" decides to dump every orginal dev of this game and get an entire new staff and then changes the game. But by then, I think most would think it's a entirly new game. Just with the same name.

We would just have to hope that the new game is good and they have propper service for it. Not much we can do even other than voice our opinion and quit. Which would support blue's statement on people would join or not even if it's f2p or p2p depending on how the game is and how it is managed.

Don't know why I'm defending blue so much since you're not really attacking her statement. I just like the color blue.

For some reason that just reminds me when battlefield put weapons in their cash shop and everyone on the fourms said they killed it, and yet the game started to do better than ever.

well thats what happened with "Fallen Earth mmo" it started out as P2P then they removed the games structure completely .. changed everything and even put in a cash shop and then went F2P .. i was a bit shocked to say the least .. i dont know if thier entire staff was fired or laid off but i did see all new names in the list of daily GM's online ... then all of a sudden people started leaving and the game IMO is on the fence now and about to die out .. just my opinion tho .. im scared this will happen in TESO ... and is some of what i think is based on wether it starts out as P2P or F2P is only some of my concern about its beginings .. the old saying goes (you get what you pay for) and also my grandfather allways told me (if you want to see where the trouble is then just watch where the money is flowing and youll see the reason for the trouble)

I see where you are coming from, but I think you're worries might be better placed in the reputation of the company, and the hype that is being formed.

If they have a well-known reputation, then you'll have more people creating hype than compared to a new and had no clue that even exsisted.

The hype is formed by the information givin out, and how many people are wanting this. If they start giving out little by little information. People will jump on that like crazy. And depending on how well they described it, is where the problems will start. If they're trying to give out as little as possible to surprise the players when it comes out, then people will start to put add-ons to whatever they said and will be dissapointed when it's not like what they made it out to be.

Put out as detailed as possible, then people will know if they want it or not. And that, will already start to increase or decrease their sales before they even come out.

I think that should be more of a concern for you on how the beginning will start up as, than if it's a p2p or a f2p game.

Nah, one time purchases cheapen games like this, subscription would mean more money for Zenimax, meaning better updates for the game..

Hyperbole and pretend facts win arguments. True story.

What?

I got a load of friends who have tried WoW, they said that the community was [censored].

All MMO companies lay people off after the game is released. You may need 200 people to develop the whole thing, but you definitely don't need that many to maintain it. It's a normal part of the development cycle.

Imo, dev cycles can't end, they need to keep investing in the game if they want this game to become anything big.

A $15/month subscription is about $3.25 p/w. How is that expensive exactly? I'm pretty sure you could choose not to have a soft drink every week and you'd be well on your way to paying a subscription. If people struggle to have $3.25 p/w spare after living expenses, maybe you should downsize your lifestyle..

On to the debate about F2P or P2P. I dislike the idea of going F2P. It will force the game to make micro-transactions attractive which can end very badly, or restrict players from content and dividing the community. And a community like those of MMOs will not do well with such a huge division. I was thinking the other day, why not have an option where you only play for the time you play -from when you log on, to when you log off- and charge the player at the end of the week (with obvious legal repercussions for not paying). Set tis price so that playing about 20 hours per week would be tipping point where subscribing would become cheaper relatively.

This would remove the concern of players who would feel forced to play, or feel like they're losing out on money. Because they can play as much as they want and don't get charged for when they don't play. But it would still be cheaper for subscribers who played more than a threshold.

Finally, if the developers are constantly putting out quality content on a regular basis (say every 1-3 months) you'll be getting your moneys worth.

Shhh I'd be careful what you say around here man, after GW2 it seems P2P is taboo and no longer acceptable to some select few people (not that GW2 was any good nor worth more than $60 in my mind though)

On a quieter more serious personal note though, I totally agree, P2P all the way for ESO and I fail to see how anyone could complain about it's expense.

I don't care if people are mad at me for what I say. GW2 blew, from what I heard.

F2P has too many variables that devs have to worry about, getting people to spend money, that I can easily see it detracting from the game itself.

no cash shop please. i don't care how cosmetic or optional it is. do not try to nickel and dime me with hats or outfits. just charge me 12-15 dollars and leave the cash shop out.
What harm do non-power selling Cash shops do?

no

i dont want to play with kiddies, pay per month 25 euros and we can have classy gaming without nerd rage kiddies.
Yes-instead we can have Nerdraging grown men and women instead! :P

Age restriction in any format really won't separate a game from the nature of people. That's just what you get.

The only way to do what you intend would be if it was some obscureish IP on a game with subject matter that isn't appealing to the lower age group in some capacity.

But since this is a popular IP based on Swords and Sorcery...good luck.

Said shops tend to make you either feel guilty or stupid 15 minutes after you buy something. Guilty because you wasted say $5 on an article of clothing or $10 on a pet or $20 on a mount that you didn't need, you just WANTED it to make yourself more unique in game. And stupid when you see the hundreds of other people standing around who are now as unique as you. Other than that, bring em on! Think I spent close to $200 in the Blizz Shop over the years, but I swear the stuffed animals were for presents.

Nerdraging advlts tend to have a higher chance of realizing what they are doing and stopping... like 3%.
