Proudspire Manor: Useless basemant room? Other problems.

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 4:16 pm

I'll need some warning, I've littered that room with Troll and human skulls. I've got quite the pile.

What? My Orc needed a hobby...
 I'm sure a change this significant would be mentioned in Patch Notes.

Speaking of basemant rooms that are not functional, Riften has one too, a room with no storage containers, even after the mod.
It has bookcases. :D

I only like certain parts of the houses.

Hjerim's armory, 3 manniquins, many display cases and plaques
Proudspire Manor's enchanting area, specifically that little tray thing next to the Arcane Enchanter. I keep soul gem fragments in it.
Breezeholm's alchemy area, specifically the apothicary satchel right on the Alchemy Lab.
Vlindril Hall's library, 3 bookcases with 3 shelves each, each shelf holding 18 books.

My opinion, combine all those into a single house and I'll call it perfect.

None of the houses are constructed very well for players' needs.

Yep, and that's why I'm building my own, lol. Of the stock houses, Breezehome is the best balanced, but it should've had an enchanter. Also, I have no idea why they put the static barrels and crates in our houses. They are useless. Why, you can't even sit on them. I don't like Breezehome's open-hearth furnace, either. Did you ever notice that it's bigger inside than out?

Proudspire's only good place is the basemant. I'd like to add a door at the foot of the stairs and rent the upstairs out, lol. Hjerim has too much wasted space. Honeyside feels like a proper house, but it's sure gloomy. I moved a barrel downstairs to store herbs, making it somewhat more useful.

I know, right? Lydia's almost fallen into it so many times that she asked for a railing, but I'm afraid she'd be leaning all day.

I just made my own home >_>. My room has a table, a bed, 2 dressers, 2 chests, a book case(Gems/"Trophies"(Staff of Magus, etc)/Gold Ore Chest/Notes, respectively). The mainroom has 5 beds, 2 dressers, some boxes, and the backroom is unfinished. Really I just wanted to get my room done just to add the containers lol.

I like Breezehome without all of the upgrades, I just bought the Alchemy Lab and the Living room, dropped a few torches to fix the gloomy lighting, and now the place looks and feels more like some place I'd actually live. There's too much crap in such a small house to buy all the upgrades for it. I might try the same with Proudspire if I ever buy it on another character.

It is weird that Lydia gets her own private and furnished room in Breezehome but insists on being a creeper who watches you sleep, but the biggest house in the game doesn't give your housecarl a proper room.

She's welcome to creep anytime. ;)

I don't understand the complaint about "enough" storage. While some of the houses may not have something to hand, you can load as much stuff in a side table as you can imagine, let alone one of the chests.

I would be happy with just one chest, if it sorted the inventory into categories. As it is now things in storage are a jumbled mess. That means using more containers to organize stuff.

Two reasons. One is organization. The second is that the more you put in a container, the longer it takes to load the inventory on access. I'm toying with an idea for my custom house where there'd be shelves with small bags. The bags would be marked as "empty soulstones" or "charged soulstones" or "flowers" or "leather items", etc. This would help immensely with organization.

Those. :P I could live with the disorganization sometimes, but the lag is annoying as F. :o

I got a mod that turns all the barrels and crates in the game into containers that I can store stuff in. Makes Proudspire the best house in the game. The basemant door leads to the main thoroughfare, and it is quick to get to my stuff that I have stored there. I honestly never even go upstairs to the first or second floors.

Now, stock, yes, Proudspire leaves a lot to be desired with the basemant.

Yeah, I got that mod too. Great for storage.

I use the empty room as a treasure dump. Gemstones, silver candlesticks, circlets, fancy weapons I'll never use... I feel like Scrooge McDuck.

The basemant room of Proudspire is indeed supposed to be your housecarl's room. All of the furniture and such are placed when viewed in the CK, it just was not scripted correctly to swap the items once you paid for them ingame.

Here is what it is http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/486624373470404431/6C8849C779A563FA8F0275B8C6A5CF32368C3F75/.

Why Bethesda has put effort into fixing the weapons racks in Proudspire, but not the entire housecarl room, is anyone's guess.

This http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=9685 that fixes it if you use a pc.

so if this is how that basemant should look like, then how can we fix this problem for PS3 and xbox360

You'll have to wait for an official fix. It doesn't work on pc either in vanilla; its only mods that have so far fixed the scripting.

I agree. Proudspire Manor is the most expensive house in Skyrim and yet it's the least efficient house in the game. It was laid out terrible. How about a barrel or satchel next to the Alchemy table? Or maybe one next to the enchanting table?

I've been asking for that ever since the game came out. Even Whiterun has a satchel on the alchemy station!

That's what caused the Snow Elves to die off. No safety rails on all those bridges. And people say OSHA doesn't work.

I have the same gripes on Proudspire manor. I played with a character to explore the whole solitude thing, get the manor etc. I felt it was rather overpriced for the crap basemant that it comes with.
