Proudspire Manor: Useless basemant room? Other problems.

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 11:06 am

So there are a few problems that I came across with Proudspire Manor that I felt are huge flaws that someone obviously slacked on.

When you first buy the Manor, there are places in the basemant you can put stuff in before you furnish the basemant. I stored some stuff down there before I knew you could upgrade the furnishings(somewhat) and went and found out that you could upgrade and such. So when I had the gold, I updated the basemant and went home to check it out to find out all the barrels/sacks/etc that I had stored stuff in had been removed and replaced!!! And all the stuff I had, which I transfered from Breezehome, was lost.

I luckily had a save that wasn't too far back and updated 1st before I transfered. This has been back when the game was only a few days old. Now I am still scratching my head when I go down in the basemant and see an entire room wasted with random unusable boxes, stacked chairs, spiders webs, and a awkwardly placed bedroll I'm assuming is for the house carl. Now I know why the housecarl never sleeps and doesn't like me; she has to sleep on the floor in a mansion. Apparently I'm too cheap to buy her a somewhat decent bed that every other house seems to come with.

My questions are:

Why would they upgrade the basemant and remove the stuff already there which can remove tons of loot and work you've done? There are no warnings or anything to let you know!

And why would they leave the room in the basemant so half baked? If I'm in the "wealthiest" house in skyrim, why is my basemant room so crappy? The place looks abandoned! And if memory serves correctly, all that is in that room that you can store stuff in is two barrels. And my housecarl either sleeps on the floor in a dirty room, or no sleep at all.

Here are a few other nitpicks about the proudspire manor:
Why do you have to pay so much for the outdoor patio which basically serves no purpose?
Why doesn't the place have weapon plaques everywhere like Hjerm?
What about all the display cases, mannequins, bookshelves, nice kitchen, etc?
Then there is the lack of game head trophies... apparently the goat is the best game that they could outfit the manor with, in a random spot?

please feel free to add to the list. and maybe can anyone give a reason for why the MANSION has the least dubs and cool decorations?

Live somewhere else. Problem solved.

Also, all the houses do that thing where they up and chuck your stuff after making an upgrade. Assuming you ran right to the Blue Palace from Proudspire, just reload a save from before you asked Falk for the upgrade.

Yeah, that room has always puzzled me...like an homage to the Pelagius Wing of the Blue Palace.

I just assumed it was a servant/housecarl quarters and left it at that. They don't deserve anything more anyway, but me? I'm too lovely.

Careful...if you keep treating them poorly they may put feces in your food.

Honestly I waste all my housecarls. They always knock over stuff in my house and it drives me insane.

It is weird that Lydia gets her own private and furnished room in Breezehome but insists on being a creeper who watches you sleep, but the biggest house in the game doesn't give your housecarl a proper room.

I've always hated that house, not enough storage and it's far too cluttered... The one in Windhelm is much nicer.

Couldn't agree more with the OP... just bought that house thinking I'd be buying a mansion but i just realized i bought a piece of crap. Let the beggars of Solitude live there, I'm moving to Windhelm.

I agree. Proudspire Manor is the most expensive house in Skyrim and yet it's the least efficient house in the game. It was laid out terrible. How about a barrel or satchel next to the Alchemy table? Or maybe one next to the enchanting table?

And yes, the decorating is also ugly.
And the patio is useless. They should have included that stuff in one of the other packages.

The house in Markarth rules!!

I just assumed that not furnishing the Proudspire basemant room for Jordis was an oversight. I love the look of that house, but the basemant areas could use more convenient storage.

I read somewhere that Lydia's bed is actually backward (apparently you can only get in a bed on one side  ) and that is why she doesn't sleep in it.

I just figured the unfinished room was for your housecarl. Hjerim also has a room that's pretty unfinished (although it does have a bed instead of just a bedroll) that your housecarl uses.

The basemant room of Proudspire is indeed supposed to be your housecarl's room. All of the furniture and such are placed when viewed in the CK, it just was not scripted correctly to swap the items once you paid for them ingame.

Here is what it is http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/486624373470404431/6C8849C779A563FA8F0275B8C6A5CF32368C3F75/.

Why Bethesda has put effort into fixing the weapons racks in Proudspire, but not the entire housecarl room, is anyone's guess.

This http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=9685 that fixes it if you use a pc.

That works. Maybe Bethesda will fix it in an update. :P

I'll need some warning, I've littered that room with Troll and human skulls. I've got quite the pile.

What? My Orc needed a hobby...

I got a mod that turns all the barrels and crates in the game into containers that I can store stuff in. Makes Proudspire the best house in the game. The basemant door leads to the main thoroughfare, and it is quick to get to my stuff that I have stored there. I honestly never even go upstairs to the first or second floors.

Now, stock, yes, Proudspire leaves a lot to be desired with the basemant.

Speaking of basemant rooms that are not functional, Riften has one too, a room with no storage containers, even after the mod.

I am Thane. I even have a tenant who does not pay me rent.

To me, an Alchemy Table alone does not make for a useful room. For example, the Alchemy table in Breezehome is in a room that has a storage chest, bookshlef and even an apothecary satchel for ingredient storage. (Note, the Satchel might respawn, so go back to that house at least every 29 days.) There might be one piece of storage in that room in the basemant other than the furniture in the Housecarl's room, but come on, every Crafting station needs a container right next to it or in the same room.

OOH wait.. Your talking about the HOUSECARL room in riften? Your saying the room in honeyside where the alchemy table is empty? I thought you were talking about honeysides Housecarl room. Becouse yeah that room stays empty until you become thane.
