Pure archer build WITHOUT relying on sneak

Post » Wed Aug 08, 2012 2:31 am

Bashing with the bow IIRC does the damage of a regular shot if you do it shortly after releasing an arrow. I doubt it's intended, but it's one of the very few interesting little combat tricks available so I never felt guilty using it.

I prefer sneaky, but sneakless is possible and viable. I might try this. I usually do hunters, but may as well try a pure archer. Gutslit carries two daggers on him just in case, but he prefers the bow and his sneaking.

I did this on one of my characters, except I shot several arrows then moved in with dual daggers. But it's doable

Its perfectly viable, even early on. Those "Frostbite Venom" potions you tend to collect a lot of early on are very effective at lower levels, and always make sure to carry a decent number of poisons with you.

Also, with a simple cart ride to Markarth it is very easy to get a Forsworn Bow, which is about equivalent to a Dwarven Bow. Very useful early on.

I might make a character for this playstyle. He'll have to be named something else... The Khajiiti tongue doesn't have any words for archer. Maybe M'Basha would work. Yeah. I like where this is going already. M'Basha the arrogant archer. This is already perfect... Yeah, M'Basha comes from the fact that you can bash with a bow. Oh well. This'll be fun. Maybe I can make him be into some necromancy just because I don't stick with pure playstyles. The necromancy using archer playstyle sounds too fun. I better go write this down! He's going to be my evil character who isn't too evil.

He'll just be sadistic. He will be using daggers, and I might even use the mod for throwing weapons just because he is a sadistic little jerk. Hehe. Thank you for giving me an awesome base for one of my signature styles. Which is called, "Twisting an idea into something else."

You're ressurecting corpses to be your slaves and you're not going to be "too evil"?

How viable is it? I love archery, but I get bored with sneaking and sniping my way through everything. I would allow myself only one sneak attack per battle. After that I would have to get out of sneak mode and start firing arrows. Light armor, archery, alchemy. Is it doable?

I think this would only be doable if you had a meat shield. Either get a companion or learn to summon, otherwise you are going to get clobbered in melee.

See sig. I don't sneak and I never melee either. In fact, for my recent archers I only take overdraw, critical shot and hunter's discipline, and ignore the other perks because they make hit and run too easy. The secret to doing this is slow poisons. Lots of them. They're incredibly easy to stockpile, and you only need them for NPCs that can sprint or in really tight quarters battles.

Good point. I guess this will be an evil guy, then. Or one with a messed up hobby.
