Pure Mage vs Pure Warrior as starter?

I'm curious why you are so adamant against using a blend of magic and blade. My only guess is on a levelling basis, you can maximize the more important attributes (health and mana/magicka for mage, health and stamina for warrior), rather than spread between the three. I won't bother convincing you of using the combination, but I can help shed some light and answer your question with my experience as a blend of warrior and mage.

As a battlemage, I enjoy the utility and power of magic, as well as the thrill of up close combat. I do enjoy the rush that comes from blending in the shadows and felling a target with a well placed arrow as well, but I intend to use a battlemage. There is a different feeling to be had from using the vast power of magic, and the thrill of up close combat. That said, I find it incredibly difficult to make a character who completely avoids using magic, as I am so used to the utility that it provides.

If you are like me, you will not feel disappointed by the fact that you are 'just using weapons', as there is a certain thrill to be had of being in the thick of combat. While it may not require a great amount of skill (considering you are playing via mouse and keyboard, or controller), a warrior does require more physical skill and prowess than a mage (who does require familiarity with spell and a healthy pool of mana/magicka). It makes for good roleplay. That said, the difficulty I have from switching from a user of magic to a non-user of magic is the utility I loose, and the need to make up for the lost utility. This was especially so with lockpicking, which was more complicated than it let on at first. Discipline will be required in order to avoid doing this, if you share my opinions on magic and combat.

I'm really tempted to make my first character a Pure Mage, but there's a part of me that thinks otherwise and I'd love ya'll to help me decide, maybe get into a little bit of a discussion / debate on the matter and see what happens.

So when I first played Oblivion, my first character was a Pure Warrior. Whilst I was playing this character, the foreign spells and cool summoned creatures really amazed me and inspired me to make my second character a Pure Mage. And yes by the way, I am soul-bent on creating a Pure Mage or Pure Warrior, nothing else, no mixtures, etc. Do you think that starting out as a Pure Mage in Skyrim and then once you grow bored with the game and create a new character ( Pure Warrior ), will lead you to feeling disappointed, because it's just using a weapon(s) to hack and slash the enemies to death?

Thoughts?
Why not combine them? Create a SpellBlade.

A pure magic user will be a bit more of a challenge and unlock interesting avenues a pure warrior won't have access to. I'd start with Warrior, get a feel for the game, understand some spell effects, whap people down with whatever weapon, then start a mage.

Pick the one that you like more.

That's all there is to it.

I personally am going an archer thief who uses daggers as a secondary weapon.
