Racial heights and first person 'dwarfism'

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 6:54 am

I'm currently searching for a mod (since I have no CK and can't do it myself) that adjusts character heights. For example I think a Nord male should be taller then a Nord female, It currently looks a little silly.

Also if you notice when you play in first person you see the world from the height of your characters chest rather then their head. I hate this and want to change it ASAP.

I don't care about the relative gender heights (maybe because my fiancee and I are the exact same height so it doesn't seem odd?) but the chest height thing DOES bother me, heh! It feels just way too low!

I'd love something like this, purely so I could make a character that resembles Tyrion Lannister.

You ask for a racial height mod in the title and then say you want a gender height mod... >.>

I would like to see a mod that makes nords taller than the other races. Norwegians and the like can be pretty tall, over six feet a lot of them. Elves should be like 5'4", especially dark and wood elves. But a mod that includes a height slider in the char-gen would be awesome.

Surely you come across other women from time to time who are shorter than you, so you can grasp the idea that generally speaking men are taller than women? ;)

I want all males taller then females for every race. To me it looks more believable. I also want my first person view to match my characters head in third person. When playing in first person and standing next to a table it feels like I'm a wide child.

I'm hoping to mod this with the CK but until then I was wondering if there are any modders out there working on something similar or have a mod created already.

But not all men are taller than females... its common, but not true across the board. Men are more bulky than females though, especially in the chest, but where I work, a lot of the women, especially those of northern european stock, are over six feet tall. :)

Im not ragging on the OP, just point it out. ;)

As I said, Id like to have a height slider... I tend to like to play really short characters... probly because Im tall myself. lol

Yeah, it is SUPER annoying! I am an Altmer, and in 3rd person I am very much taller than Lydia but in 1st person she is looking down on me! It is so stupid!

And when you switch from 1st to 3rd and vice versa, you can see Lydias head look down when you switch to 1st....So lame...

Please Fix!

I haven't noticed the first person dwarfism. In fact I've noticed my camera being basically level with NPC heads and then in third person I'm shorter (playing a female Breton).

I think that's posible by editing models itself. And POV issue there is topic on that somewhere on forums.

But there is issue with height change... How will armor/cloth, weapons/shields look on that model

I'd love something like this, purely so I could make a character that resembles Tyrion Lannister.

Ah game of Thrones :)

You can just setscale on any actor to modify this. On the player it stays across saves, I don't know on NPC's, as I haven't tested. Armors and weapons rescale with the actor, just have to be careful not to exaggerate.

It might actually be easy to script this, once the CS is out, but on the meantime use the setscale command. You can check an actor actual scale through getscale command. By the way, the first person camera changes height according to the scale...

Well, the script should be easy, so it's a good way to learn! It svcks at first, but once things start to work, scripting is actually more fun than playing!

Ill need to learn it sooner or later till then ill do what i do best and what im doing for past decade webdesing, 2D/3D art and maping/environment design.

So back to topic..
scripting this should be fairly easy get (race)(gender) and then fairly easy loop that sets scales for each race and gender ... idk how easy will it be to make slider on char creation screen but shouldnt be a problem

Move the first person camera node in the skeleton nif, if it still works like Oblivion.

If only you could move the first person camera node to the third person animation. I hate running around with my arms at 90 degree angles in front of me, blocking 50% of the screen and giving me headaches.

That happens with dual wield and when blocking with a shield in first person view, that is true.

You can adjust the first-person camera by changing fov:

Console:
fov 80

Or in SkyrimPerfs.ini, under general, add:
fdefaultfov=80

80 does the job for me; default is 65 or so, you can try out different numbers ingame with the console and put it in your ini afterwards to make it default (apparently, console fov resets after dying and stuff).
Added bonus: You can see your shield in front of you.

Changing fov does not raise the camera off the ground.

Move the first person camera node in the skeleton nif, if it still works like Oblivion.

This is what we need someone to do. I'd do it if I had any experience with nifs, but my scripting is my niche.
