Racial stats imbalanced

Post » Mon Feb 04, 2013 9:38 am

Early on Breton clearly has the most useful abilities. The thing is any race can eventually max out all resists. I like my high elf. I'll eventually have the same resists but I'll always be faster, jump higher and hit harder because of my height.

I don't think height has anything to do with how hard you hit.

And I also doubt an Altmer can hit harder physically. I imagine a High Elf hitting people like Justin Bieber.

Indeed I choose my race by role playing purpose and back story I just miss some of the old racial bonuses tho now with the new leveling system and lack of stats some have been made pointless like the +50 magic for Altmer.

The lack of those can be looked at as a loss, but I look at what I have to work with now. It free's me up to...potentially make two characters of the same race...and have them totally different from each other. Because I never liked the idea, that all members of a race HAD to be a certain way. It allows me the freedom to make an Orc who isn't really all that into Malacath and minds a small farm with the wife and kids. Or a badass Khajiit Warrior who goes to war in the name of honor and freedom.
The stats just sort of created this implanted notion that "this race is best suited for this", but that's not really there anymore. I can literally make, anything I want, well within reason.

And I love it.

You imagine them hitting people then singing a stupid little song meant for prepubascent girls?

I have always made characters who went against the racial grain but I have always thought of the racial powers as a more inbred skill. Like all Altmer whether they be mage or warrior are born with more magic just because they are a race of magical beings with a long lineage of this power.

I think some don't understand what i mean...

What i mean is like this...if i want to create a Warrior better i choose Breton, because Breton already have 25% magic resistance and i can boost up to 50% WITH NO EFFORT, just by touching the Lord Stone. Why i want to choose Imperial where i must work around to get the similar effect?

It is because every races have the same damage dealing, armor rating, speed, strength...

There is no attributes to balanced out every races unlike in Oblivion. in previous game every races have different attributes, that balanced out advantage and disadvantages of every races.

What happen here is, Imperial is the most lowest appealing to choose even as a Warrior, because it is like choosing cars, car A and B have the same speed, but A have air condition, B do not have...i choose A

The taller races actually run faster; Nords, Altmer, Orcs.

Like I said before, no one is forcing you to play as an Imperial.

I would ask that you refer to my previous statement about the freedom this creates. The game does not dictate anything your character does, you do. Almost complete and utter freedom of creation, it's all a matter of choosing what skin you want to wear and the character you want to play.

I'm surprised Nords aren't heavy armor considering they are the best with two handed weapons. Two handed is slow and is better with stronger armor. Especially as they get smithing which helps.

Imperials however get resistance along with block (to accompany one-handed or destruction) so I thought they'd be better with light armor so they can dodge and move around quicker. Especially as they get enchanting to assist

That how they were in Morrowind and seems they have swapped. Especially as most the best looking Nord armors are heavy and Imperials are mostly in leather.

Balance towards what exactly?

lol still don't understand?

I make it easier...

Like the car example, car A and car B both have same speed, both aerodinamic....but car A don't have radio, CD player and air condition....both have same price, which you want to buy?

Why buying car A then put in radio, cd player and air condition later, while car B already have everything?

Then why would you want an Imperial. None of this matters late game.

How many people actually use the racial powers? I can see Orc players using it.
I use the Histskin of the Argonians all the time during tough fights. It's really, really useful. Not to mention the natural waterbreathing is nice.
Highborn is nice too when you're low leveled and know your magicka is going to run out. Gets useless later on.

Some people don't care about stuff like that. And it really doesn't matter unless you play on like master.

Any race, no matter there powers or bonuses, can do the same thing. It's freedom and balanced as it is. Most people choose race on roleplay choice and this gives them the freedom to. People could care less if Imperials dont get bonuses that are good.

...Well, I'll defer to what someone else said...You don't HAVE to play an Imperial. People will play the races they do for the reasons they do, with the mechanics on hand that we have. Some of us don't really care about the stats as much as some. Freedom of choice is the name of the game. And it being a single player experience, what we choose to do, is our business, with no reason anyone should find fault with.

Racial powers can actually be quite useful when used as a tactical advantage. I play a Bosmer char right now with light armor and got swarmed by two giants and two mammoths. It left me in quite a pickle. Used " Command Animal" and suddenly the giants got other things on their mind besides me.

Sometimes on these forums I am surprised of the lack of creative thinking when it comes to fighting in Skyrim. The game may be somewhat lackluster in other areas, but when it comes to combat and dungeon crawling in general there are hundreds of ways to approach enemies. It seems like people just decide Skyrims combat is poor without giving it a shot.
Every race have their strength. When you choose a race you make a choice based on your playstyle with this particular char. In my view the races are not unbalanced, they are just different. I admit "once a day" - powers should be "a couple of times a day" - powers, but other than that I enjoy the race for what it is and try to utilize the "power" and other advantages that suits the char. Start seeing possibilities rather than limitations people :)

And the only Racial Power that is actually good and useful is the Orc's Beserker Rage.
It's hardly unique though. You can achieve the same effect by simply lowering the difficulty level - the advantage is that using a racial power doesn't break immersion.

There is no attributes to balanced out every races unlike in Oblivion. in previous game every races have different attributes, that balanced out advantage and disadvantages of every races.
What was the disadvantage of playing a Breton again?

If you're a powergamer, Bretons are the way to go, we already know it. Bethesda nerfed their 50% magic resistance and they're still more powerful than other races simply because magic resistance is extremely useful. Tell us about other races. Compare Imperials to Argonians or Bosmer. Then we can discuss.

Again, it is NOT about forcing or not forcing huh!

it is about BALANCE
Why do we need balance? You can master every skill and practically become a god playing as an Imperial. So what's wrong with them?

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see more meaningful racial abilities. But I don't need them to be balanced. There's a problem with Imperials not because they're weaker than others, but because their racials are completely useless. Calm once a day? Really? More gold in a game where you become rich by the time you advance to level 10?

Argonians are a good example of what I want. You can't say that waterbreathing is more or less powerful than Berserker's Rage. It's something entirely different and used in different situations. I want every race to have something like this. Not a generic illusion spell, not a skill boost, but something unique to their physiology or culture.

Why buying car A then put in radio, cd player and air condition later, while car B already have everything?
You're thinking like a powergamer. I chose an Imperial because I came up with a great backstory for an Imperial soldier and no other race would fit. I didn't even think about her racial abilities, they were irrelevant. They don't have any major impact on the game.

I chose car B because it looked better. Or because I wanted to support the company. Or maybe because I've been driving this brand for years and I intend to stay faithful to it.

I love Skyrim like a brother, but:

Whenever you make a statement "_____ in Skyrim is unbalanced," you're probably right. I'd be hard-pressed to find anything in vanilla that's not either overpowered or underpowered.

Breton have always active 25% magic resist, meaning plus enchanting, plus blessings, will have more than others who have same build as the Breton

You're absolutely right. All the racial powers in the game are pretty mediocre, especially at higher levels, and nobody uses them anyway, but as far as racial passives go, Breton wins out hands down. 25% resistance to all magic is huge. In fact, as a Breton, you can complete the Book of Mara quest for 15% magic resist, grab the Lord Stone for another 25% magic resist, and have 65% magic reduction without even leveling any skills (the MR cap, for reference, is 85%).

"Well you can just enchant that extra 25% if you're not a Breton" you say. Sure, you can, but when you're a Breton, you can spend that same enchantment slot on something else. Being a Breton is like having one of the best enchantments in the game built into your character.

Like i mentioned before, every race have the same strength, an Orc using two handed sword give the same damage with a Breton using the same weapon EXCEPT when that Orc using Berserker Rage

What about Imperial? Imperial give the same damage using the same weapon above, but compare with both, Breton have 25% magic resistance, Orc can boost damage when needed, Imperial have what? All these three are Warriors with the same perks, armor and weapon.

it is like the example i give about choosing cars...all the cars are the same design, the same speed, the same price...but car A have nothing, car B have CD player and air condition, car C have heater and surround sound....why want to buy car A and pay more to get all those other cars have later?

THAT IS IMBALANCE
