Rage 2 not yet confirmed

Post » Thu Aug 09, 2012 11:06 am

Carmack just said at QuakeCon there will be a Rage2.
I'm wathching QuakeCon live

Although, I'm not surprised, I don't get why anyone had doubt
Before Rage1 shipped they said there would be a Rage2.

Edited the topic title, since they did not actually confirm RAGE 2. -Povuholo

Awesome news!! So are they saying no to DLC then? I would be ok waiting for Rage 2, as long as it takes up where the first one left off.

They aren't showing anything yet.
Right now it's just Carmack's Keynote. He did, however, mention their work on Rage2
If anyone will mention Rage DLC, it will be Tim Willits, unless he's hiding in shame, lol, then it might be Matt Hooper.

Edit: I must say the level of idiocy in the QuakeCon IRC is ridiculous, gonna go stream somewhere else, where I don't have to have text pop in my screen, text from monkeys with a 10 second attention span.
The keep screaming for games, morons can't tell it's a damn Keynote.

I wonder who he thinks he is going to sell it to? Might as well just do the consoles for Rage 2.

Well, lol, it was kinda sad I guess, lol, the first thing people were chatting was: "No, no Rage2 we want Doom4!!"

Still, I'm sure many people will keep Rage in mind.

I, for one, will be buying Rage2 as far as I know.

I was asking around for confirmation about this, and someone who apparently watched the talk said:
"Carmack said he and some other guys at id wanted to do a Rage 2 and fix what they know was wrong with the first one, but ZeniMax shot them down to prioritize DOOM 4. Certainly isn't in development now, if ever."

I watched the talk; the impression I got was as tangolibe conveyed up to a point - acceptance that there were things that needed fixing and a desire among some (including Carmack) to go right in and do it. I don't recall any mention of Zenimax shooting the idea down, more a case that it was an internal decision after further consideration.

A brief mention of Matt Hooper being the one who would be giving the first unveling of Doom 4, which seems to indicate that he's the project director on that. Also an amusing confirmation that yes, Willits does have a tendency to talk things up in public before those things even exist yet.

No one shot anything down, as far as I know. And that would be ridiculous.

Lol, that's why it comes back to bite him...

Indeed.
In the following QuakeCon days we might get to know more, or they might finally announced Rage1's DLC, lol.

I would have preferred to see a DLC for Rage first, but the announcement of Rage 2 is a very nice surprise.

Fantastic. But I hope they learn from recent mistakes.
Doom4 is the priority though.

I can't follow every part of it either, but I'm doing my best to watch presentations, and any news I get I will post.

Cheers, here's to hoping Rage2 fixes alot of things wrong in Rage1

Non-Rage related:
Spoiler
Some guys in a presentation just quickly mentioned id has a secret project they will show. I think that's Doom4. I just posted that on the Doom area. Not anything official, but I can't think of any other secret project they'd have that would be worth all the waiting.

I think they've been sufficiently humbled by their experience with Rage and will do everything they can to make sure they don't make the same mistakes with Doom 4. Makes it all the more likely to be a truly worthy successor to the Doom series.

It's understandable that they have to prioritize Doom4, but it should be possible for them to make a Mass Effect 3-style ending DLC within the not-too-distant-future.

Vynzent, you are the only person I've seen who is saying they confirmed a Rage 2. The other 2 people who apparently watched the presentation said they wanted to make Rage 2, but eventually decided not to... You sure you didn't just hear it wrong?

I'm quite sure they said a Rage2 is happening.

BTW, I'm getting more info now.
Carmack is talking about Rage RIGHT NOW  watching live...
Well he's talking about Doom3:BFG but mentioning bits of Rage and idTech5...

Okay so 1 thing he said they're going to fix is interactivity. He said Rage's world was to static and they will be putting more stuff in that's interactive.

The "Rage 2" stuff is from 12:40 to about 13:40 and it's quite clear that it's not a case of "Rage 2 confirmed".

I'll be able to watch the video once I get out from behind the Great Chinese Firewall in a few days..hehe.

The truth is, I don't really need a Rage 2. All that is really important is the level editor, in my opinion. Even if personal computers aren't powerful enough to compress levels efficiently on its release...they should be able to sometime in the future. It's a great engine, and it really just needs a good level designing community to create really take advantage of its AI through less linear design.

I don't know if I'd make the jump due to how poorly the community has been treated post RAGE release, I wouldn't trust a word that's said but rather actions.
