Random Freezes while in the world.

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 2:14 pm

Hey I am not getting feed back on my response for this issue I posted a possible fix for, yesterday. It might relate to your problem.

I didn't do anything with the ini. I am not sure what you mean " unless you loaded a level", I just went to the in game settings when I pressed start (because I am using a xbox controller right now until the PC controls are fixed) and selecting settings and unchecked all save options. There is I think 3 or 4 of them. I am pretty sure the one causing the problem is the "Save every 15 mins or whatever time you select. I think default is 15mins. I put the others back on and haven't had issues with those. I just started playing again so I haven't broke my 1 hours mark on my new try. I am just curious if its the new save feature they have. If you go to settings when you pause the game it's the very bottom one. I think you can select something like 15mins, 60mins. etc.. I am not saying that is the fix, but it did fix it for me. No freezes and not hang ups during game play. I also have no random crashes either like I previously did.

Another thing I want to add, I did use MSI afterburner because my GPU was climbing 71c and holding. That is hot and perhaps it was temperature related? I don't know, I can't really find the max temp. rating for this card. I don't think is the problem though. It could be, but I have been reading other people saying 71c isn't hot for this card so IDK.

*This was a response to another person in another thread. Someone said it didn't work for them, then another amd a few others never responded so I am assuming that it worked and they are playing the game or they are not being partaking in eliminating possible solutions.

It still hasn't locked up or froze on me.

Worth a shot, GPU's can go as high at 90 at times with no issues so i wouldn't expect 70 to be a problem :)

Ok, haven't found the solution for this problem, but now I think I know what the problem is!!

I was testing a windowed configuration, and at the same time I had window's task bar open, showing me CPU usage.

And guess what?? When my game freezed, the CPU usage went up to 100% in both cores (Core 2 Duo user, here). Tried many times in those locations I knew the game would freeze, and yep, it seems that everytime it does happen it's because the game eats so many CPU cycles that overloads the whole system for a while.

Now, if that's because of a glitch or a natural game behaviour it is to be seen...

In plain english: Our CPUs could be a bit weak to play this game D=

Well, i had a hard crash. Had to force a reboot of the comp. Temp was 69C and climbing when that happened. I was inside a dungeon.

i am going to try EMT's "save" solution.

Also i have AMD overdrive on. gonna reset my overclocks to default, and pump the fanspeed up if the save thing doesnt work.

It seems to wide-spread to be a factor of CPU's being too slow. The creator of this post is using an i5, there's also a guy running an i7. If it were a problem with CPU's being to slow it wouldn't do it on simple things like loading a campsite and then NOT doing it when walking into a city if that makes sense? There's plenty more stuff to render / process in a city than a campsite :). Personally im thinking it's a serious rendering issue or something along those lines - no way can it be this random on so many different systems for it to be user related.

You're right :D

I didn't realize not everyone was using CPUs as old as mine. Wow. (Can you guys check your own CPU usage as well?? Maybe it's bogging down ANY kind of CPU due to a bug)

The heck with this game, then? O___O It's barely playable this way.

I'm sad D=

Hope a patch for this is coming in a few days.

When you do turn off all your save functions, restart the game. I am just following the same steps I did, because it seriously fixed my problem. I was impressed with myself. Please respond if anyone has tried this and it works. Play for about a hour just to make sure the freezing is gone. I played for 3 hours last night straight and nothing whatsoever. Save manually in the game and don't turn on any save functions.

It would literally freeze up completely and I would have to alt+tab+del out and close application. Or It would freeze or micro freeze the game.

I just hope this helps, because it did work for me and I know it's frustration getting a new game like Skyrim and it plagued with problems. As soon as it froze up. I literately said "There it is" " I knew I couldn't play right away" ...

yeah I've tried disabling all the save options and then saving and restarting, and still get freezes all the time. Thanks for trying to help though!

Nah.. the CPU jumping up to 100% is a result of the game bugging out. And it certainly isn't temps, like I've said on page one my temps are usually 50 - 55 degrees at the hottest.

And it has nothing to do with auto-save, which saves every 15 minutes. We can run for 30 minutes straight without problems in INTERIORS, but we're shocking quite a load (more then once each 15 minutes when exploring) in EXTERIORS.

So, no luck yet - waiting for Bethesda it is.. =/

Turn off Steam overlay ( Man I hate that thing ! )

I got those random freezes in almost all their games, especially FO:NV...just walking along and bam ! Just stops.

Wait for a few seconds and on it goes. ( Never crashed even if it took 10 seconds to continue though )

Even having an SSD does not stop this.

But it was rare...maybe 6 times in 50 hours but if it's worse in Skyrim ?

Please don't say so...

"Built with the console in mind" apparently means PC users are offered very little support. I don't mean to [censored] and complain, but I would expect these issues from online games like MMOs not from single player games. Was Skyrim not ready for release via PC and was shipped too early in order to compete with the console users?

Having same issues btw. Log in, outside run for 2-8min freezes with "Not Responding" have to ctrl+alt+del out of it.

Seriously needs looking at, maybe Bethesda are too busy catering for console needs

Getting these freezes as well, every half a minute for 5-10 seconds in the outside world and sometimes, but rarely, inside buildings.

Gets really damn annoying when you have to travel long distances across the countryside.

Another 30 minutes I've frozen 3 times. Haven't crashed to desktop yet, though.
The same here, only my game freezes more often now. After a couple of hours playing the game, it's getting more and more annoying. Sometimes there are 2 or 3 freezes in a row now.

My specs: Win XP, AMD X2 250, 3.25 GB RAM, GeForce GTS 250 1 GB, Realtek HD Audio

I will try steam-offline mode.
- nope, it teh same. Game freezes in outside worldspaces, usually when actor or creature is approaching, but i am not sure if this is the problem.

Can't wait for that patch!

I'm having freezes/crashes too. However, they happen in both outeriors and interiors. Sometimes the screen freezes for about 10-20 seconds, then goes white for 1 sec and then it's all okay again. Sometimes it simply crashes and closes to desktop.

Once or twice Skyrim also suddenly closed itself without any error notifications.

My specs:

i5 2500k
Radeon HD 6950 1GB
8GB RAM

And not using Realtek audio.

Just once I'd like a bug that gives me things like gold or that spiffy new mace/sword/axe/dagger/[item to suit your taste]! Not this train-wreck of unplayability. How is it that I can avoid getting eaten by a Dragon, but can't make more the 30 steps outside a cave?!

I think Bethesda implanted this bug with a reason to force us to buy the console versions and THEN to release patch that will remove the bug :brokencomputer:
