Reaction to Heartfire DLC from a PC Gamer Prospective.

I would be happy to pay $5 to get a housebuilding mod and an adoption mod with way better functionality than wither of the available mods have and no chance of interference with other mods.

I agree to that.

Nehrim says otherwise.

Even console users know when they are being ripped off. This should have been free for console users.

Nehrim's a different matter - it took a number of years to make, is something completely different to what Bethesda intended and ... Well, other than that I can't say much about it, as I haven't played it and have no intention of doing so.

Mods =/= developer content.
Developer content is likely add more to the game as a whole, and with more polish - voice acting, for example. As the developer, Bethesda have both the skills and tools to make a higher quality product than most modders. This isn't a statement against modders, it's just a fact.

This.

Even though it was a semi-professional work [add to that The Lost Spires] and I enjoyed it a lot, you can easily tell it from a true professional work by a number of things. OEM DLC are way more polished.

I have played Skyrim more that any other game in the past. I bought a very nice computer for the purpose of playing it on the computer as this is the way to do it. I have an Xbox 360 and am very unimpressed with it as a computer. I was bothered by the crazy number of bugs that were in the initial release, I was bothered by the exclusivity of Dawnguard and felt it was in very poor taste. With this new DLC they may of lost my business. Instead of using the users as the guinea pigs for there shoddy coding maybe fix your product before releasing. I spend weeks and months tweaking, fixing, updating and researching why my computer was having so many problems with playing this game. I found the reason when i starting playing games not by Bethesda and found no problems. They make the best "base" games out there but the incomplete games with joke encoding they release are embarrassing. I really hope they get their acts together soon. Elder Scrolls VI will be their last chance with me.

Hard to explain. It just feels better to be playing something official.
It's because of the brand behind it. There are modders who can make content as good as, if not better, than Bethesda.

I'm not bashing Beth. But I can see no practical reason for a PC player to purchase Hearthfire when there are already mods in existence that provide excellent player homes, some of which you build.

Then again, it's only 5 bucks. And there were house packs like this for Oblivion, too. But I will personally not be buying the DLC as I have no need for it. It's not like Dawnguard, which was full of original content you'd pretty much never see come from a player mod.

I love mods and I love official dlc. I'm a PC only elder scrolls fan and have been playing it since arena was new. I mod my game all the time but I will also buy every single dlc that comes out. I'm not filled with joy at hearthfire but I will def be getting it because I like to support Beth and I always enjoy their dlcs no matter how small.

PC player here. Things that are officially released and are made to run natively (from the people who made the game themselves) will always run better than user-created content, period.

And for people who don't want to install user-created mods, Hearthfire is a good thing. And for five bucks too, what the heck.

EDIT: I am SO going to get disagreed on this, but this is my opinion and I am not going to read/reply to any other backlashes in this thread. First and last time in this thread.

Yeah, that's why user-created content is what fixes the "official" crap Beth hands out. :whistling:

Judging by the trailer, I think I could squeeze an extra 5-10 hours of fun out of it. That's not a whole lot of money for that many hours of entertainment. And if you think it won't be entertaining, then you might as well not download it, free or not.

PC player here, here's my opinion on Hearthfire:

Watching the trailer:  "We've been able to do this for months!"

My reaction afterwards: "Micro$oft only paid for the first 2 DLCs to be timed exclusives. No exclusivity for the real DLCs/Expansion!" :celebration:

I might get it if there are any awesome mods that have it as a requirement.

That's the whole thing I like this DLC. I won't even buy it. I'm just glad that now Bethesda can start rolling out the real expansions. If Bethesda doesn't make any more sizable expansions (as big as Dawnguard, at the very least), then I'll start complaining.
