really confused

Right, so with every thread that suggests that a character or the lone wanderer could/would make an appearance, they always (or at-least one person) says that its impossible/really hard to go from DC to New Vegas BECAUSE ITS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CONTINENT!!!

but it isn't, i may be an australian but i had a look at the american map and correct me if im wrong but DC is in washington and New-Vegas is in Nevada so as you can see in the map below

http://s1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc508/Rafi_Mayer/?action=view¤t=americanmap.jpg

so as you can see in the map above, new vegas isn't on the other side of the continent in-fact its just below Washington. so could someone tell me why people keep on saying that New vegas is on the other side of the continent when it is just 1 state apart.

Someone's probably going to ninja this but: Washington State is on the west coast, while Washington D.C., the nation's capital is on the east coast on an area between the states of Maryland and Virginia...

EDIT: See, I knew it. Ninja'd by dragoonofdeath! :P

Actually. Washington DC is between Maryland and Virginia. Las Vegas is in Nevada. Someone said it's a 30 day march from DC all the way to Las Vegas.

Edti [censored] Hell this place is full of ninjas :sadvaultboy:

He's not American so that's not a difficult mistake to make. I also know very little about America geographically.

Las Vegas is 2500 Miles from Washington DC. While this distance is not insurmountable, the accepted theory is cross country travel is too dangerous for casual trips. Only military organizations have seemed to have traveled any distance.

Now, knowing humans as a race, I doubt 2500 miles of land would stop all travel, however for the Fallout World, it seems regional travel is the norm, when it happens.

If he had replied somewhere I might have left it alone, but to make a new thread and map that he's discovered...

as you can see in the map above, new vegas isn't on the other side of the continent in-fact its just below Washington

... Come on, had to give him some flak. All in good fun.

Cassidy!

Its a rumour of the wastes which is too good not to be true.
If it is true, its an excellent reason for people not travelling.
If its not true, just the rumour is good enough reason for people to not want to travel.

The grass isnt greener on the other side of the hill, theres a radioactive dustbowl and mile wide twisters. So why go to the other side of the hill?

Heh, true, but that does cut off a portion of where a game could take place though.

I never thought I'd live to see the day someone confused DC for being in Washington state. Though, OP does have a point. If you have either Enclave/BoS connections or are really good at stealing things, you could theoretically make the trip from DC to Vegas in two days flat. I speak, of course, of hijacking a Vertibird. True most wasters have no hope in hell, but if you have the right connections or a screwdriver and some skill at vehicle theft you oughtta be able to do it.

He's not an American, he's Australian. I've seen this mistake made my foreigners before. I just kindly correct them and move on.
