Really people the Mer races don't look bad

Post » Tue Aug 07, 2012 11:59 pm

when ever there is a thread about the Mer in Skyrim people always say how ugly they look and that Bethesda should have made them more human looking. But people seem to forget that there not humans there a completely different race in my opinion they look great they all have a more separated look about them like when you look at them you no that they are from a different part of the word. That's just my opinion but what's your do you like there new look are do not I'd love to hear your responses.

Whose complaining? I like the way Mer look in Skyrim. Though, the Dunmer always seem to have an angry look on their face. Well, a few that is. Maybe it could be because they actually are angry. Either way, they look fine to me.

I can tolerate the mer more than I can with the beast races. Every time I pick a beast race I start over around level 10 because of how hideous and awkward they look. Oh and....dat tail.

Eh, idk. They look...okay? They could have maybe made one or two of the Mer races look a little more graceful and attractive imo; not saying they have to be gorgeous LotR elves, but...well, yeah.

I guess it depends on how much time and effort you put into character creation. Maybe the game engine just isn't very creative when it came to spitting out Mer NPCs?

I think the elves look very ugly especially the dark ones. Orcs look like models compared to the ugly dark elves.

The females for all types of Mer look perfectly fine. The male Altmer look great, the Bosmer look okay, but all it takes is some time in the character customization to make them look good, the male Dunmer aren't the best but they're fine. A lot of them seem to have wrinkles on their face.

I think they look fine, though the Dunmer do always look angry. Probably still haven't found that slave (Morrowind reference, anyone?).

At least they're better than http://images.uesp.net/3/3c/OB-npc-Adoring_Fan.jpg.

I don't think they should necessarily look human. But they don't have alien beauty in my opinion either, aside from pretty much the default female Altmer (who actually looks somewhat like my ex ;__; ).

That said, I've managed to make some pretty ones I like that still look alien without looking grotesque.

The females for all types of Mer look perfectly fine. The male Altmer look great, the Bosmer look okay, but all it takes is some time in the character customization to make them look good, the male Dunmer aren't the best but they're fine. A lot of them seem to have wrinkles on their face.
I haaaaaate the Bosmer faces. Nothing you can do with them except make them sort of "okayish." Good thing the whole race is a joke. They're short so they can't run or jump, their racial ability svcks past level 10, their starting skillset is inconvenient to almost any build and on top of it all they're easily the ugliest race. I've never seen any reason to play one, I've just tried to make them pretty (and failed, in my opinion).

Incidentally, I'm actually pretty pleased with what I've managed with an orc. Here's the elves I've made recently, Orsimer Dunmer and Bosmer. http://imgur.com/a/fhxqS

They look awesome to me, when I see a human and a Mer, I instantly know who's who. Mer have that "elegant" look about them while the Humans have a more "rugged" look to them

Yeah, I don't have a problem with the Mer, though the Bosmer aren't particularly appealing to me. Ghouls on the other hand... I can't stand the way those wretched things look

(As an aside, were Ghouls ever a playable race in the Fallout games?)

I've had some trouble with the Dunmer, but I love the way the Bosmer and Altmer look. I think the key is to only play around with a few features (I usually pick the cheekbones and jawline) and leave the rest of the sliders centered.

I love the way they look. I definitely wouldn't want them to be more humanlike. It'd take away their appeal and uniqueness. Mer can be beautiful, it's all in the hand and vision of the creator, and more importantly, the eye of the beholder.

the only issues I have are that the Altmer remind me of Bananas  for some odd reasons...

and the Dunmer remind me of Mr. Frederickson from the movie UP

They look great.
I hope Bethesda doesn't waste time and resources on completely redoing character models for an eventual new TES because they pretty much nailed the general look and feel of them. The 3d modeling team should instead just create new variations of armor. There can never be enough armor variety.

Maybe just tweak and refine the existing character models if need be.

The mer look good in Skyrim. At least they managed to keep them somewhat unique, instead of making them Tolkien copies that lots of fantasy games seem to fall into the trap of doing.

Yup, I like the beast races as NPCs, but when I try to play one, I hate the tail sticking out of my armor. Even when I play in first person, I know the tail is back there. :\

Beast races and elves received a huge ? improvement in Skyrim. Now all we need is an actual tail. :P

Wasn't a fan of not being able to wear armor because of the things in Morrowind. :nope:

I suppose that's a fair point, but I still thought it was sad that they decided to remove them. They gave the beast races more special features, and made them more unique and cool looking. I'm all in for beast legs in future TES installments. :hehe:

Sadly I can't play a female Mer due to their looks. Without mods they all look like aged freaks. Dunmer are the worse and I really want to play one also. I may have to break down and get a mod to make them look less harsh with the foreheads.
