Is it really that hard to keep us updated?

Post » Sat Jan 22, 2011 4:45 am

Well I am sat here with a game with corrupted saves. And I no longer trust to play again until they fix it. So its either trade it,or wait. I hope no one touch's the dlc when it is released. Because these problems need to be sorted first. And if they release the DLC before the problems are fixed, then they need a good seeing to.

Obsidian way to screw up.You had the template all set out for you from Fallout 3.And you still blew it. :intergalactic:

What the hell, Its been a week since I have played, and I keep seeing more and more AND MORE people getting the same problem, so I'm not alone, but why are we being kept in the dark? There has been no post by Bethesda/obsidian telling us "we are working on it, or that it's going through certification" which would be nice to see. I don't mind waiting but I'm f u cking pissed off that we haven't heard any news other than a few players posting their solutions, which to be honest don't help. Bottom line, fix it, keep us updated.

It's hard for them to post any news about it because THE GAME JUST CAME OUT!!!... They don't want to hurt their sales by declaring that they produced a broken game. Profit > Community, when it comes to matters of importance for Bethesda / Obsidian. Welcome to capitalism my friend.

They're not acting "like they're shareholders", they are acting like paying customers. I think everybody understands that a few bugs are inevitable in a game such as Fallout. However, bugs that make it virtually impossible to play the game are a different matter. It's like buying a candy bar, but the wrapping paper is made out of titanium, with only a small hole in the side. You can either melt the candy bar and svck the content out with a straw, or wait for a special scissor from the manufacturer, that may or may not help you open the wrapping.

As for people being angry over this and creating new threads; You say it makes it difficult for Obsidian to track down these issues. Really? Maybe it would be easier for them to spot something is wrong if there only were one mention of the dlc/save game bug in an excisting thread, filled with other issues and bugs?

The reason people start new threads is that the bugs make the game virtually unplayable! They have paid money for a product THAT DOES NOT WORK. It is by no means unreasonable for paying customers to require at least an update on how long they will have to wait to get a working product. This isn't about a small glitch that makes NPC's sing christmas songs out of tune, it's about not being able to play the game at all!

As for the anology with the car and the mechanic. I don't expect to have to tell the mechanic how to do his job. I especially don't expect the manufacturer of the car to sell me a car without a gearbox.

And what about the last bit of the quote; What makes us think we're so special. Hmm... let's see... We don't think we're special, we are paying customers who don't like the feeling of pissing away money on stuff that doesn't work. Of course, if paying 60$ for a game doesn't mean anything, then we might as well get the pirated versions of future Bethesda games, right? It's only 60$, they'll never know it's missing. It's nothing special. No one will care. And then nobody will have to read threads like this ever again. Great! Problem solved! Thanks!

Well said!

You're expecting a multi-billion dollar corporation to change their business practices because you spent $60 on one of their products. It's asinine.

The fact remains (and my point all along) that if people kept these discussions centralized instead of spread out over 100 threads, most of which have a title that gives absolutely no indication as to the content of the post, then it would be easier (and faster) for Obsidian to pin down the problems and fix them. I want these problems fixed as much as those that have suffered from them. I'm fully prepared to play through 4 times to see all the major faction endings and I'm reluctant to start my second character with these problems existing.

But by all means, don't help the community by working WITH the developers. Just keep doing what you're doing because that will show em who's boss, right? Seriously, people are so upset over a game (and I admit I'd be pissed too if I had these problems) that they're blind to COMMON SENSE. It's not like I'm sitting here telling people not to post their problems or be angry about it. All I'm asking people to do is be SMART about it.

Is a forum really the best place to report bugs and glitches? If Obsidian needs help pinning down the issues with the game, then wouldn't it be better to have some sort of online form that requires that customers provide the information most needed to fix the problem, like in an actual beta? Forum reporting is inefficient and anecdotal, whether the bugs are reported in a single thread or a hundred.

My problem is they released a flawed product and continue to do so at max $$. I haven't heard of the game being pulled from the shelves or any kind of warning being issued about possible game-killing bugs(savegame corruption). Before anyone jumps on me about this just being business as usual, ask yourself "should this be the way business is usually conducted?" We will sell as many as we can at max value while working on a patch to fix the glitches that might ruin hours(and i mean hours ! ) of gameplay. Doesn't really inspire continuing customer loyalty. Just my two cents.

It's pretty hilarious how people are acting like Obsidian or Bethesda need help identifying what the bugs/glitches are. They're the same ones they ran into during development and QA and ignored. No one is so lazy they legitimately didn't notice how broken this game is.

It was released as a broken game with consent from both parties. It still sold well and the upcoming DLC will also be a major hit. They have no incentive to fix any bugs because that costs them money, it doesn't make them money. People saying "well hurr durr if they don't fix it people won't buy their next game" don't know what they're talking about. Every Obsidian game is broken and people keep buying them. Every Bethesda game is incredibly buggy (though this is the first outright broken one) and people keep buying them.

People seem to think I'm supporting Obsidian and Beth, when the truth is I'm not. This release is atrocious, period. But it's nowhere near as atrocious as the people that come to these forums acting like they're shareholders just because they bought a $60 game.

I've never, not once said that Obsidian should be given a break. I've consistently said that the people on these forums need to be SMARTER about how they approach these issues. Starting a new thread every day for the same issue when there's 2 other threads on that issue ON THE FIRST PAGE OF THREADS is doing nothing but making it more difficult for Obsidian to track down these issues.

Let's say your car is broken and you want it fixed. Would you rather the mechanic has to read one book to find the issue and fix it, or would you rather he has to read 2-3 pages out of 100 different books?

As for the topic of this thread. Software companies by and large do not keep the public up to date about their progress when fixing issues. What makes you people think you're all of a sudden special because you paid $60 for their game?

Because we paid 60 dollars for a game

THERE PRACTICE IS TO SELL WORKING VIDEO GAMES. Your acting because people are complaining about a BROKEN game they should stop whining and play, when the fact is YOU CANT. Did you not SEE ENTIRE THREAD OF PROBLEMS WITH THIS GAME? How the HELL do you think that got there? By people MAKING THREADS AND COMPLAINING. Without the people whining, they would have said "Well it looks like the game is flawless, and we need to make NO adjustments" BUT WE CANT LET THAT HAPPEN. It's not a business practice,

With your ideology,

Say you buy a package from Amazon and you are waiting for it to arrive, would you rather, Have your windows blocked out and doorbell destroyed so you will have NO clue when it gets here, only by assuming "It will eventually" OR would you like to look out every so often, and see that glorious UPS truck and say "Hey, it's almost here"

Your arguments are so flawed it's unbelievable, and I cannot believe you honestly stick to what you say. Get out. NOW.

Wow, it's like you learned English words but not what they mean. You obviously have no clue as to what I'm talking about, you're just raging against me because I'm not posting "I agree 100%", "QTF" and "Yeah, there (wrong form of this word used on purpose to show just how stupid some of the users here actually are) criminals". If you actually took the time to read and understand my posts you would know that I never, not even once told people not to complain. I've been telling them to be smart about it.

Smart, by the way, something you decided to brush aside in your haste to bash the developers and anyone who doesn't follow you and your ideas like a lemming.

Don't feed the troll. The troll being Land of the Dead. First Bethesda releases Fallout 3 with the corrupt save glitch involving the game freezing in and around Rivet City, which I had (and they never fixed it either, just a "welp, start a new file and save more often"). Then they release Fallout: New Vegas that I got the DLC not found glitch within 8 hours of playing. Really, Bethesda? This is what's wrong with DLC. It gives companies the ability to spit out a [censored] game (see: Left 4 Dead) and promise more content to be added later, at a price. This game was not thoroughly tested or else they would've found this glitch. And then they release it, and it's okay, because they can just fix it via DLC lollollol. Thank God they got my money up front for a game that I won't be able to play for at least a month (if ever again).

This is a lesson to me, never buy another Bethesda game.

Okay, you're calling my argument asinine without even understanding it. I'm not expecting a multi-billion dollar company to change their business practises. Wanting something to happen doesn't equal expecting something to happen. But that being said, I'm very keen to find out how you have come to the conclusion that it would be against Bethesdas' business practices to give an estimate of how long we have to wait for a patch? Do you work for them? You seem to know an awful lot about how they go about making patches. The other option is that you're assuming you know how they conduct their business, and based on that guesswork you're calling my arguments asinine and claiming other posters are not being smart. Which is it?

Furthermore it is not a bad thing that people are bringing their anger and frustration forward, even from Bethesdas' point of view. Generally the worst thing that can happen to any business is what could be called a silent boycott; people simply stop spending their money without voicing a reason for it. That's usually when large corporations start feeling nervous and will do anything in their power to find out what is causing their business to go poorly. At that point all negative feedback is extremely valued because it brings with it a chance to start working on the problems.

Of course, businesess can also continue doing everything as they always have and neglect all feedback. Nokia tried that in the smartphone market, releasing buggy phones and ignoring the competition and the complaints of customers. Well, that didn't work so well now did it? At some point the competition will fix the problems and release a superior product, as already happened with Apple's OSX and Google's Android OS. Nokia's Symbian got left behind with it's problems.

You don't know what you're talking about. The major bugs were all well known before the game even launched, they don't need to confirm a bunch of people are experiencing them. They know what the bugs are, they're choosing not to fix them for whatever reason.

I'm using precedent to back my argument. Most, if not all corporations do not keep the public informed of their progress on their products unless it's a deadly issue (I.E. Toyota cars having bad brakes). Look at the IW forums for MW2, they kept their community up to date and all it got them was a bunch of grief when things were delayed or didn't pan out as planned. So guess what, they stopped keeping their community informed.

Show me one thread, news article or other form of communication for any past Beth/Obsidian game where they kept the community up to date on their patch progress and I'll change my tune, until then I stand by my assumptions.

It's amusing to watch people on these forums say things like "Get it fixed now!" then their next post is "Take time out of fixing them game to tell us how you're fixing the game, NOW!"

You don't know what you're talking about. The major bugs were all well known before the game even launched, they don't need to confirm a bunch of people are experiencing them. They know what the bugs are, they're choosing not to fix them for whatever reason.

Yeah, they shipped the game knowing it would have save game corruption issues. Why? Because it's the last game they'll ever make so they don't care about bad press at all. Get real.

True prehapes, but I do think that there gonna patch most of them due to the huge amount of bugs, Oblivion and FO3 were also full of bugs when they were released, but they were easily playable, this? Not so much for some people (sadly).

I can see both sides of the argument here that seems to have degraded into little more than a shouting match between two sides that refuse to budge in either direction. For myself, however, I do see that there are many glitches and problems with the game as released...which in some instances may in fact be game breaking. I trust, however, that both Beth and Obs. both want this high-profile problem to be fixed soonas possible and Im sure they are working towards that end. Beth has a certain reputation for being a great game developer and if Obs. wants to work with them again I'm sure they will fix these problems as soon as they can. These problems can't be waived over with a magic wand and suddenly they go away....it will take a bit for the dev to track down the problems and fix them. I for one would rather have them fixing the glitches then keeping up to date with play-by-play reports. That being said, we all need a place to vent our frustrations and this forum is the best place to do it. While I suppose it could be done "smarter" as some have put it, everyone is entitled to voice their opinions through the medium they see fit. If their medium is that of this forum on their own individual thread, who are we to disagree?

we all are pretty pissed off with the game, I am disappointed with the glitches within the game myself, but we have to wait. The developers didn't take enough time to look at the game and the glitches involved, perhaps bribery was involved with Microsoft so that the game could even be released, all I know is that I have paid 37 pounds for this game, something I don't usually do, but I was expecting this game to excel instead it has fallen into oblivion, when is this going to stop Bethesda, when are you going to give us a game that is actually worth its price tag, I am sick to death with Developers taking my hard earned cash and giving me a pile of S*** in return, I could go on for hours about how bad this game is as far as glitches are concerned, and it doesn't deserve to be on the shelf's in its state. I think its time to say, bye bye Bethesda, take your games and shove them where the sun doesn't shine because I am no longer going to be spending any of my money on your f****** s**** until you fix the issues stated in the forums.
