People seem to think I'm supporting Obsidian and Beth, when the truth is I'm not. This release is atrocious, period. But it's nowhere near as atrocious as the people that come to these forums acting like they're shareholders just because they bought a $60 game.
I've never, not once said that Obsidian should be given a break. I've consistently said that the people on these forums need to be SMARTER about how they approach these issues. Starting a new thread every day for the same issue when there's 2 other threads on that issue ON THE FIRST PAGE OF THREADS is doing nothing but making it more difficult for Obsidian to track down these issues.
Let's say your car is broken and you want it fixed. Would you rather the mechanic has to read one book to find the issue and fix it, or would you rather he has to read 2-3 pages out of 100 different books?
As for the topic of this thread. Software companies by and large do not keep the public up to date about their progress when fixing issues. What makes you people think you're all of a sudden special because you paid $60 for their game?
They're not acting "like they're shareholders", they are acting like paying customers. I think everybody understands that a few bugs are inevitable in a game such as Fallout. However, bugs that make it virtually impossible to play the game are a different matter. It's like buying a candy bar, but the wrapping paper is made out of titanium, with only a small hole in the side. You can either melt the candy bar and svck the content out with a straw, or wait for a special scissor from the manufacturer, that may or may not help you open the wrapping.
As for people being angry over this and creating new threads; You say it makes it difficult for Obsidian to track down these issues. Really? Maybe it would be easier for them to spot something is wrong if there only were one mention of the dlc/save game bug in an excisting thread, filled with other issues and bugs?
The reason people start new threads is that the bugs make the game virtually unplayable! They have paid money for a product THAT DOES NOT WORK. It is by no means unreasonable for paying customers to require at least an update on how long they will have to wait to get a working product. This isn't about a small glitch that makes NPC's sing christmas songs out of tune, it's about not being able to play the game at all!
As for the anology with the car and the mechanic. I don't expect to have to tell the mechanic how to do his job. I especially don't expect the manufacturer of the car to sell me a car without a gearbox.
And what about the last bit of the quote; What makes us think we're so special. Hmm... let's see... We don't think we're special, we are paying customers who don't like the feeling of pissing away money on stuff that doesn't work. Of course, if paying 60$ for a game doesn't mean anything, then we might as well get the pirated versions of future Bethesda games, right? It's only 60$, they'll never know it's missing. It's nothing special. No one will care. And then nobody will have to read threads like this ever again. Great! Problem solved! Thanks!
